The Meal: Presentation is always key, and in this case, this was not aesthetically pleasing. I wouldn’t dump a lump of meat in the middle of the plate. The portions of ingredients were not done as well as it could’ve been, because there was way too much lettuce in the bowl. Iceberg lettuce is perfect for a taco salad because it’s not overpowering as far as flavor, however it’s texture can be a little on the firm side. If you don’t cut it correctly, it causes excessive work to just chew your food and that isn’t enjoyable at all. On the contrary, the tortilla bowl was fried to perfection because it had a great consistency of texture. The entire bowl was light, airy, and perfectly crispy. There was no excess grease lingering in the fried dough, it was certainly given the proper time for draining. Overall, it was a mediocre salad; there wasn’t much of a dynamic taste. If you’re going to do something traditional, use top shelf ingredients to make it stand out rather than blend in.
The Atmosphere: 100% FAMILY FRIENDLY ! It is the perfect spot to have lunch after church on Sundays.
The Service: A friendly approach can go a long way, not everyone can handle a stern attitude. The server was harmless. His personality was just a little strong, but he was also very willing to answer any questions or concerns. He did a decent job with checking on the table making sure we had refills on the table.
Final Grade: (C -) I can’t stress enough how important presentation is because first impressions are what people tend to remember. The freshly fried salad bowl, as well as the short wait time on food and seating, is what kept the grade at a passing standpoint. The company really needs to re-evaluate their presentation when it comes to certain items on the menu. I was not pleased by how disturbing it looked to have my food served to me in such a manner. Also, make sure all ingredients are not only diced evenly to size, but also portioned adequately. Simple dishes like these need the intricacies on point, and unfortunately they were not in...
Read moreTERRIBLY EXPERIENCE. the food was amazing but the service was so awful. heres what happened We went in with a big group of about 8 and it was almost impossible to get refills on chips. We had orders queso, and when it was brought out the server recognized the chips were emptied and came back 2 more times without filling up the baskets. We ordered a chili relleno and was asked if we would like the lunch or dinner portion and another member of the table ordered a #9, specifically saying she wanted sour cream sauce on the enchilada with a guacamole tostada (the server did not ask if we wanted the lunch or dinner #9). Each meal came with a Tupy's taco and we requested to know the ingrediants to the taco and were flat out told that it was beef. But once we received the taco it was this weird mushed texture that appeared to be burnt refried beans. The server came to the table and we asked what it was, he rudely said that it was beef.
Once our meals came out 6 out of 8 meals were incorrect and the server did not offer to fix the mistakes that were made, when one member of the party asked him about it he begin to argue stating that he didn't have an attitude but was trying to do his job. At this point we requested to speak with a manager, no manager came to the table but the service became tolerable until we left.
After we left we phoned Tupy's to speak with a manager. The manager came to the phone and we explained our experience. The manager did not seem to care and stated they would speak with the server and get his side of the story and hung up.
I am disgusted this is the way in which they chose to manage their business this way. With such amazing tasting food, it would really compliment to have a great staff and service to back it up. Personally I would prefer mediocore food with excellent service. I will not return and I hope they find new management, because I can't expect a business to...
Read moreWe have been here a couple of times. First time was a 5⭐ experience. Last night was not. First the food is excellent, the decor expected and the service is decent. We found ourselves and everyone else out to dinner after a couple of frozen days inside. I knew there would be a wait. That wasn't the problem. The issue came when we tried to walk to the bar to get a drink while we wait. The hostess was quite rude, actually shut the door to the bar on my husband, and told us to stay in the lobby "someone would come out to take orders". So we wait. We see someone bringing drinks to the other 30 people crammed in the lobby. But no one offers to take our order. So after about 20 minutes I ask if we can place a drink order to a waiter passing by. We did get them finally after about another 15 minutes (and the bills were messed up with another couple). While we were waiting for the drinks another couple also spoke of the rudeness of the hostess as well. As we watched she would literally chase down anyone who tried to open the bar door to go order. They also had a hostess helper just standing a wiping off menus. What they should have done with an hour long wait in this scenario: Greet hostess, get placed on wait list, hostess asks if you want to place a drink order whole you wait (she already has a name and phone #). The helper can run the order to the bar, and voila...everyone is happy without shutting doors on people, being rude, or chasing down waiters. We did finally get seated and we ate. Again the food and drinks are very good here. I had no fork for some reason, and asked two people. It never got one. So I ate with my spoon instead. It was a packed house beyond normal. Texans don't don't well with ice for three days and no TexMex food. I will go back, but hopefully on a less high...
