The people here are wonderful and the food is excellent. My only concernâand this is feedback more than a complaintâis about the way tipping has become the norm in many modern restaurants.
At this establishment, as in many boutique coffee shops, thereâs no table service: you stand in line, place your order, pick up your food, pour your own drinks or coffee, and seat yourself. Yet, the payment system still defaults to charging a tip. This feels frustrating, especially if youâre just buying something like several loaves of bread to take home. In those cases, no service has been provided, but youâre still prompted to tip.
Of course, customers can adjust or remove the tip, but it feels like unnecessary pressure. I believe itâs worth raising with business owners that a better model would be to set fair menu prices and pay staff a living wage, rather than relying on tipping culture to supplement income.
