CDOT: From what I can tell, there's no reason for me to believe you don't allow semitruck parking here. Please explain to me the white sign with black letters (regulatory) at the entrance that says "no overnight camping". By itself, isn't that potentially a bit unclear? It makes me think of sleeping out on the grass under the stars with perhaps a nearby tent, or even in a car, but for some reason it never really occurs to me that I am camping in my semitruck sleeper. I'm absolutely positive other truck drivers feel the same way. The next thing is, do you know who it was that knocked on my door at 6 o'clock in the morning... while it was still dark outside with temperatures at or below freezing and fresh snow and ice conditions on the roadways... knocking then quickly disappearing into the morning darkness? I'm not sure who that was. Could it have been a rest area employee, or law-enforcement, or as there were two or three (or more?) other trucks parked in the rest area overnight at times with me, could it have been another truck driver? Maybe, but here's the thing... somebody supposedly affiliated with the rest area called my company and said they were going to have my truck towed, and I can't figure out why unless it really does have to do with this no camping thing. Did you really call my company or was somebody playing games? In any case, CDOT really should consider for the future using the word "parking". It just makes more sense if that's what you're...
Read moreFirst and last time coming here. There was a man working here who was right off the bat rude to us. The rest area building is closed. It had one sign on the front that we happened to not see due to maneuvering safely first. There was another truck parked that blocked our immediate view of the front. So naturally, we got out and proceeded to walk over to the building. Then this guy randomly yelled at us saying "where are you headed?!" As truckers, I responded where we were traveling. Then he asked us, "Do you speak English?!" Then pointed at the front sign. I was like "okay I'm sorry, we would have seen it eventually sir, no need to be rude about it." He said,"I'm saving you steps." As if excircise is a bad thing to us truckers? Then he yelled off something about truckers coming in here and blah blah blah, while getting into his pickup and leaving. So unbelievably rude! All he had to say was that the building is closed. Someone should tell him it is completely unnecessary to belittle someone for having to use the restroom and missing a sign for a bit. We weren't even close to it yet. We got 10ft from our truck. Such an...
Read moreWe stop here every time we drive to Colorado. It's a well-maintained rest stop, very clean and welcoming, the best I've ever seen. There's also a visitor center here, with pamphlets containing tons of useful info about CO. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always eager to answer questions or provide suggestions based on your needs. There's also a beautiful Vietnam memorial here. The best thing about this place for me is what it does to my fella. For some reason, Handsome (my dog and best friend) loves it here. From the time I got him as a puppy, he hated being photographed. He never poses for photos and refuses to hold still, making it almost impossible to get a good pic of him. This is his happy place, where I've captured the best pics and videos of him ever, where he's completely content. He's 14 yrs old and has some difficulty getting around most days. This place makes him act like a puppy. I love seeing...
