I'm told by those that have been to Indian restaurants in Vancouver, British Columbia, that Curry Hut Indian Food is as close as it gets to Indian street food. I don't entirely agree with that sentiment, but hey, the food is still great here!
One thing to quickly put aside. This is fast food American Indian. Two points there, the first being that while you could theoretically come here, order food, sit down and eat it, it's more of a to-go place. Secondly, it's an American Indian place, so don't expect the food to be piping spicy crazy hot. But the base flavors are still there, albeit a Northern Indian cuisine element (lots of oils and butters, creams in the dishes, for example).
But hey, for the price point and the convenience aspect that the business purports, it's a worthwhile experience.
The last time I came here, I ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala and naan. So much naan. And the Tikka Masala, I must have ordered a 32 oz, because it took me almost 3 days to finish the whole thing on my own! My oh my was it delicious!
Service is very friendly here and I can see why this business has a 4 / 5 star overall rating on Yelp at the time of this review. The business doesn't try to be more than it advertises to be, and it doesn't under-deliver either. At the end of the day, it's a fast food American Indian restaurant. Come in, get your food, go home, enjoy...
Read moreLet's start off by saying that 1. I live 2 miles away from little India on Pioneer and 2. I very much enjoy Indian food and frequently visit little India.
I'm more than willing to drive 8.5 miles to try Indian food when I have other places at a 1/4 of the distance if it's good, and I can definitely say this place is worth the drive.
This place is served cafeteria style so the food comes out very quickly. You can choose one, two or three item combos. They have one of those typical Styrofoam to-go boxes that you see at Panda, so they put the rice in the large area and the curry in the smaller areas. If you order a three item combo $9.99, then they will put 2 items in the box and your side choice on a separate round container.
Food, especially the Chicken Tikka Masala, is very good. Creamy, curry-y (if you know what I mean), and nice tender chicken pieces. The naan comes with the combo but if you want garlic you'll need to spend 50 cents more (worth it). They give you 2 large halves and they are doughy, fluffy and crunchy.
Highly recommend this place. I just hope they decide to open another branch...
Read moreI love this place. They have a good rotation of excellent curries. Though I am not a vegetarian, I like to eat less meat when I can, and I like that they always have several vegetarian options to choose from here. My favorite is the cauliflower and potato curry, though their yogurt curry, eggplant, and veggie korma are all really good too. I did try the chicken curry once as well, and I liked it a lot - perfect amount of spice and a nice ratio of chicken to sauce. I'm not as fond of chicken tikka masala, which they almost always have on the steam table, so I haven't tried that one. Next time I'm in the mood for meat I'm trying the goat curry. I love goat curry, and theirs does look good.
Service is quick, and mostly with a smile. Sometimes the guys in the back seem like they'd rather not be there, but the two women who mostly work the front, and actually serve the guests, are very friendly.
This is a great spot for a quick and healthy lunch, and it probably costs the same or less than some fast food drive through, so it's in my frequent...
