2 year veteran vegan customer here. This was our FAVORITE restaurant in Orange County. We went there for anniversaries and birthdays for the last two years. There was a lady there that was so incredibly awesome, helpful, and kind. I don't know if she is either no longer there or just wasn't there tonight. I'm not sure, but the mistreatment tonight has deterred us from ever going here again.
Here it goes. My partner and I ordered sushi off of their vegan menu for pick-up through GrubHub. The order was about $140.00+ of sushi. The wait was going to be around 45 mins. We waited about 5 minutes and received and automated text from GrubHub that our order was cancelled without any notice or acknowledgement from the restaurant.
We had asked for no onion (even though the ingredients list for every roll we ordered did not even say it had onion) just to be safe. I can sometime have a negative reaction to either fresh or cooked onion pieces in my food. I am fine if some part of the food is cooked with onion in a marinade or something of the like though. Or if the chef uses onion powder.
Anyway, my partner called and asked why the order was cancelled. Apparently according to the man on the phone, he said, "When we get modifications like that, we just cancel the order." Seriously? With no call at all?
We have eaten at this restaurant countless times and they have ALWAYS accommodated us. They would always make sure to bring us whatever we wanted that they could make without onion.
We asked if anything could be made without onion. He said, "No, just Edamame." Then he said, "I'm not going to go find the ingredients list. I'm too busy. Is that all?" Not to mention, he kept talking to other people while on the phone and putting my partner on hold without actually putting the phone on hold. We could hear him laughing and talking to other people about us the whole time. If they're going to talk badly about their guests while they are on hold, they need to learn how to ACTUALLY put someone on hold instead of offending them.
He was obviously more than happy to lose a customer who was going to spend over $100.00. We just wanted to know if there were actual pieces of onion in anything and if we could either get it modified or find something else without it. He did not care and did not want to help us find anything to eat at their restaurant. Does he even want customers?
My partner then called back to talk to a manager, if they were available. They must have recognized the number and let it ring endlessly until the machine hung it up.
I then called from my phone and someone answered. A gentlemen named David answered (someone different from who my partner talked to) and he told me he was so so sorry and that the man I talked to was the owner! David apologized and appreciated that we were such loyal customers for so long. He explained to the owner that we were customers for a long time and that they didn't want to lose long-time customers. David offered for me to talk to the owner and so I did.
The owner was very generic and then suggested he didn't speak very good English, put me on "hold" and then complained to his employee, David, about the onion issue and then said some other things in Japanese. So, he knew what I was talking about, but then pretended he did not to then just complain about me out loud while I could still hear him. He then said they can't do accommodations if we order online, but if we went in person, they would. Which was odd to me, but that's all that he offered as a solution. If he saw that there was a modification on the order, what difference does it make if I ordered in person or not? He then said, Everything's fine now, yes?" I just said, "I guess? But I still don't know what I can or if I can eat anything here without onion." He said nothing and I said goodbye.
I recommend getting sushi from Kai Sushi, Heemo Sushi, Sushi Pop, Orange Roll & Sushi, HONDA-YA, and Koisan over this place in Orange County. Still on the...
Read moreI never write reviews, but this has been bothering me since last night so i thought I'd write one. I was at dinner with my bestie last night. We've been there before and we know the food is incredible. Staff had always been great. I love that you guys have a whole vegan menu. Everything was going great at dinner, our waiter was awesome (I forgot his name). Our experience was almost incredible until the end. I started noticing that the hostess started coming to our table more often, asking us if we were ready to pay multiple times but we were still waiting on our dessert, my friend and i were talking and catching up, we hadn't seen each other in a while. The hostess looked annoyed and then later she came back checking to see if we payed already. Then at the end she literally told us "if you guys can please hurry up because we have a long waitlist." My friend and I were taken aback. I never had a staff from a restaurant rush us before. We just replied, "oh....um.....ok" we were there total of 1.5 hr. I didn't know there was a time limit for dinner. We felt really rushed, we felt uncomfortable so we paid and got out of there. We tipped our server over 30% (he was great and I always like to tip really well). I was just really disappointed that the hostess tainted our whole experience. And it sucks that 1 bad apple can ruin the experience of a restaurant. I don't think that's fair to the other staff who work really hard and are so kind to everyone. I would like to go back to the restaurant but if I do I will probably confront the hostess lol (I wish I confronted her last night but I was...
Read moreI was afraid I’d set my expectations too high for this restaurant. Nope. Not in the least. A separate vegan menu isn’t a list of 2-3 things you can choose from. It’s a fully bound menu. Specially for you as a vegan. Six pages I think? Yes they serve other foods. My companions were definitely satisfied there as well.
So that’s a good start, but it gets even better. The staff know their food and can advise you so you get what you will enjoy.
Speaking of the staff? Supremely attentive! We even had the good fortune to come in when they were testing out some new vegan sushi and they gave us a sample.
The food? I was absolutely knocked out by their food! Start with the spicy garlic edamame which is seasoned through the whole bowl, not just on top. Vegan egg rolls were also a hit and both were enjoyed by the omnivores as well.
Then their vegan fried rice appetizer, a delicious spicy dish.
The amount of room I had left went to two crunchy sushi dishes. They were divine.
Things here are wonderfully sauced. There is a generous amount of ginger on your plate.
Then they kindly treated us to a small scoop of their icecream and mine was matcha and just perfect to have to wrap up the meal.
A tiny place, we made reservations. I believe important on a Saturday. Possibly on any day.
I did not have enough room for ramen. I didn’t want to order anything to go since I didn’t want to not be able to try it all fresh. I didn’t try their fancy vegan desserts as I only had room for the matcha scoop
I plan to work my way through their...
