Back Forty Beer Company — Restaurant in Gadsden

Being steeped in Asheville NC beer culture since 1994, I love finding breweries in other areas where brewing is more recent. Back 40 makes solid beer, relatively standard selections - IPA, pale, brown, and others, some with additions and others just straight up. No Belgians, Germans, sours or other styles that I saw (this visit), just typical ales of the type you'll likely find regionally and well done.

The brown is actually an ESB - not quite brown enough to really be a brown and though the grain bill may have been, it really should be darker to be a brown. Still a solid, tasty beer for what it is and I"m an ESB fan so, no matter. I'm not much for jalapeno additions (or IPA) but theirs was just right - just a hint of aroma and not too hot...just right. I could never find out if B40 uses traditional strains for the type (ie the actual genetic strain for the type, or closest) - I'm spoiled by that in AVL and my own beer, so it may just be Cali or East Coast.

I don't really expect great food at breweries - but the pimiento bacon burger is off the chain for burgers - but don't bother w/ the fries. They were so overcooked they were hollow, and apparently in rancid oil (they stunk) so I chucked 'em.

B40 is a solid in a nowhere town and the staff is friendly and helpful - talked with several of them. Would be nice to see some branching out into other (non typical) styles, but I don't live in the area or I'd lobby for it. Would def'ly...

This is the best place I’ve ever been, been going here since I was born and I’ve made so many good memories and met loads of people that I can never forget. The staff is so nice, polite, and would NEVER. Do anything wrong (on purpose of course). Everyone here is absolutely an angel from heaven and god sent. If you ever visit here we have a wonderful kids area, football, soccer ball, volleyball, net ball, and many other things you can find. We encourage you to ask our bar tenders for chalk and draw your heart out. Whether it’s absolutely trash or Mona Lisa art we don’t care.

As far as food and drink, not old enough to drink but I can imagine if you like craft beer you’re in for a treat, for my teens & kids we have Shirley Temples and any lemonade you can think of, as well as a lot of sodas. We also have burgers, nachos, and other good food.

For things todo while you’re here, most days we have music, Tuesdays we have jazz (go Arnold) and on Thursday we have trivia. Most Fridays we have a live band (probably Adam & Reagan or Craig McGriff) they’re always amazing and everyday at back forty is a blast. And 4th of July is a different animal.

So, to rest my case, yeah, come check it out. Bring family, friends, or just yourself! It’ll be worth...

"My recent experience at the Back 40 was nothing short of a disaster. The pretzels were so overcooked they were practically inedible. The salad was a joke – it was barely a full portion, and the wings were bland and flavorless. As for the "bean dip," it was a tiny, unimpressive serving that looked more like a side dish than a main course. The entire meal felt like a rip-off, especially considering the prices. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this place. If it wasn't literally 24 hours since I ate last I would of sent the food back..on top of that you order and pay for your food first..the pretzels were beyond cooked. The pictures speak for themselves..the salad had very litter chicken for a 4 dollar upcharge. The previous favorable reviews have to be fake. No one was eating here only drinking so they must know the food sucks too. I will never come here again..this is the second worst place in...
