Recently, I had the opportunity to dine at a local restaurant that had received rave reviews for its Vietnamese cuisine. With great anticipation, I looked forward to trying their famous pho, a traditional Vietnamese soup renowned for its rich flavors. However, my experience left much to be desired, as I encountered an unexpected twist in the taste and an inconsistency in pricing between the online menu and the actual bill.
Pho: As a seasoned food enthusiast, I have developed an appreciation for the delicate balance of flavors in various cuisines. When I took my first sip of the pho, I was immediately struck by an overpowering taste of cinnamon.
Price Discrepancy: To add to my disappointment, I had previously checked the restaurant's online menu and noted the prices for their dishes. To my surprise, the final bill I received did not align with the prices listed online. Granted, I am aware that prices can sometimes change due to various factors, and restaurants may update their menus accordingly. However, it is disheartening when an establishment fails to reflect these changes accurately on their website, leaving customers with mismatched expectations.
Paper Menu vs. Online Menu: In defense of the restaurant, it is understandable that a physical menu may be subject to changes and adjustments that are not immediately reflected online. However, in today's digital age, where most customers rely on online sources for information, it is crucial for businesses to ensure that their websites are kept up to date. This ensures that customers can make informed decisions about their dining experiences, including budgeting accordingly.
Conclusion: Regrettably, my experience at this restaurant fell short of my expectations. The overwhelming taste of cinnamon in the pho detracted from the traditional flavors I had hoped to enjoy. Additionally, the price discrepancy between the online menu and the final bill left me feeling disappointed and somewhat misled. While I acknowledge that taste preferences may vary, and changes in pricing are inevitable, it is important for establishments to maintain transparency and accuracy to provide a positive dining experience for their patrons.
I hope that the restaurant takes note of these concerns and strives to rectify these issues for the benefit of...
Read moreThis is by far one of my favorite places to eat and drink in Gainesville. I am an extremely picky eater and have a very sensitive stomach, but I can tell this place serves high quality food and drinks and it tastes phenomenal. I highly recommend this place!
First off, the banh mi is best eaten fresh and toasted on-site. The highlight is the handmade Vietnamese mayo, once it’s toasted it tastes like butter and is truly delectable. I’ve had a handful of their banh mi: the combo, lemongrass steak, and tofu - they’re all delicious! I also top mine off with the fried egg with everything on it (except jalapeños).
The snacks are also very good! My favorite is the kimchi French fries with beef. They acidity and sourness from the kimchi with the the crunchy french fries is tied very nicely together with the spicy mayo and sriracha. It’s such a unique and delicious combination of flavors. The taiwanese popcorn chicken is also good.
I prefer drinks with a fresh taste to it. My favorite is the Coco Aloe Vera without the grass jelly (it comes coconut meat, chia seeds, and aloe). I also like their T-signature and Taro Oreo smoothie. I normally am unable to drink boba tea at other places because my stomach gets easily irritated, but much to my surprise I actually am able to drink the drinks here. I do suspect it is because they use real fruits instead of powder.
Plus the workers here are really sweet and do their best to make you feel comfortable. They even gave me a complimentary side of soup. I’m so happy that I have a place to...
Read moreWe ordered the grilled pork banh mi and the potato corndog that comes in a pair. The grilled pork was slightly dry and overcooked but was helped by the sauce that they put on the bread, which wasn't a baguette but a cuban so smaller than other banh mis I've had in gainesville! However, my main issue was with the corndogs. The person who served us was a little cute kid who i asked if it was possible to put mozzarella/cheese in the potato corndogs to which he said yes and also informed me that it would also have fish sausage as well. I assumed he meant a half and half and wanted to make sure it was customizable before ordering cause if it wasn't I'd choose another one that did have cheese already. Our food comes and I realized that not only is there no cheese, but it also had a good chunk of the fish sausage not even covered by the fried dough and kept falling apart easily. I went back to maybe see if it had been a mistake but an older male server just tells me that they aren't customizable and that it only comes with fish sausage because it's prepared/frozen (?) beforehand. I tried to explain the situation and he just repeated the same thing. To be fair the kid was really young and I just left it as is, but the condition of the corndogs, the lack of flavor in the banh mi, and the lack of help or understanding overall made the whole experience just ... dissapointing. Considering the price as well, would just recommend trying out the other banh mi/corn dog places...
