first time to Galena, Gobbie's will be the Reason for the Return, Everything about it Enjoyable friendly knowledgeable staff even when they were all doing zoomies to stay up with their busy crowd, a close friend and myself went on a road trip in memory of some friends of ours that have passed, yesterday, so when Galena came into our radar, I said sure why not, for a Wednesday I was not expecting the business (tourist) district to be jam packed with people we got into town around 2:30 after a horrible experience in Dubuque IA, so I was ready for a beer stopped in I was amazed how busy the place was, outdoor deck packed as well, looking at the food on the tables I already knew we were coming back for a late lunch early dinner, finished our beers and out to explore the river district as I knew my friend she wanted to do some shopping, we walked all 6 blocks of it, friendly shop owners employees making all feel welcome, so much to see and so much diversity in what the shops had to offer it was almost too much, as a window shopper I would have a hard time remembering which store to go back to, on the 6 blocks up and 6 blocks down hike we did stop at a couple of other "bar locations", was disappointed to say the least, hard to get anyone's attentions and no personality, so I look at Janice and say "Gobbie's?" she says "God Yes" we no more than get into the door and the host instantly Greets us, table or bar? umm both, we grab a couple craft beers from our bartender Jeff, smile from ear to ear welcoming you in as well, can we run a tab? Absolutely, another round of beers we head on out to the outside patio, totally cool set up, couple more beers, time to place an order head on in ask the host best way to order, he lets me know he will send a server out to take our order, so I grab a menu even though I already knew what I wanted, The Pizza, the Gobbie's Pan Style, couple minutes later our wait staff comes to our seats again huge welcoming smile, I start to order and my fiend jumps the gun as she all of a sudden wants the Mushroom Swiss Burger medium rare, so I'm smiling at her thinking Great I am ordering a large Gobbie's pan Style that must weigh 6 lbs to eat by myself, Oh Boy, Shaina, Smiles and says just the 2 of you? I laughed and said yup, the meals also comes with the house salads that have a homemade Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing that I would eat by the bucket full OMG so good and "Beer Nuggets" which is pizza dough deep fried and served with their marinara which was also awesome I did get an extra bucket of this to take home :D , just the 2 were more than enough to fill the 2 of us up, then here comes the Pizza and Burger OMG 7 more pounds of food, the Burger you could see the clear juices coming out of it with each bite with homemade Salted Fries, I did take a bite out of it and it made me Happy, not many burgers will do that, and my Pizza, I knew I was in Trouble, be lucky to eat a full piece of it, I bite down on it and instantly knew quality ingredients, nothing overpowering and at the same time nothing hiding, all the flavors working so well together, now 2 of my favorite pizzas of all time are less than 30 minutes apart, I finished my first slice of pizza and the other 7 slices were looking at me like pick me pick me, I did get my friend to take a bite of slice two and watched her eyes roll over in her head, but she was already full by eating maybe half of her burger and I stuffed myself silly on that second slice, that pizza for sure feeds 4 adults, we sat around outside for a bit letting our food settle listening to the music, then went back into the bar and ordered a couple more beers the place stayed busy until about 9 o'clock even though they closed at 8, we were the 2nd to last to leave at around 10pm, once they slowed down we got to chat more with the staff all are friendly and courteous, thanks for the Hospitality See...
Read moreCame for a day trip with my daughter from chicago. Wednesday oct 28,2020looked through the different restaurant options. Seen a picture of the pizza and then seen the pictures of the beer nuggets and we where sold. But when we arrived we where blown away by the customer service and the extremely friendly and attentive host the young little guy and the the server Tonette I think her name was was like winning the server lottery she exceeded our expectations. Friendly, outgoing, attentive, knowledgeable about the food and ingredients and the local area she was awesome and truly amazing.never once had to ask for a drink refill or anything. She was on point seriously..as we drove home we where talking about the delicious food the best calzones and beer nuggets ever hands down. And we tried many others but this is our #1favorite and this was our first time here. the ingredients where fresh bold and tasty. Seriously I don't rave about pizza or beer nuggets but this place is hands down amazing and delicious only bad part is we live 2 and a half hours away or id be here weekly. also the exceptional customer service from Tonia she is a asset to this restaurant any time we are in. Galena we will always patronize this little gem . thank you for a wonderful memorable day and dinner with...
Read moreI inquired at the door of outdoor seating was available as I had my small dog in a sling. The server went to check before coming back to confirm and seating my daughter and me. We were there about 10 minutes before a guy (manager, maybe, he never introduced himself) came to tell us we couldn't be there with our dog. I apologized but mentioned I had asked when we arrived. His response, "well, I don't know who you talked to..."
He seemed to have been given that information as he bumped into our server on the way back inside. She was coming back with our drinks and apologized saying she was pretty new. She was polite and kind. I told her it wasn't a big deal, I apologized for having had wasted the drinks since we had to leave.
If the other guy was the manager, or even if not, he was quite rude. He did not introduce himself, he did not apologize. He did not even ask if we perhaps wanted to place a to-go order to take with us. I have since done a proper search and found 5 dog-friendly restaurants in the area.
Take it for what it's worth, considering I didn't even try the food. It was a disappointing first impression of Galena. I expect the rest of the town will be friendlier. Everyone at Stoney Creek Inn already surpasses...
