The service here is mean and rude.
I walked into this restaurant on the evening of Thursday, October 5 and was the only customer at the time.
There were two young Latina employees who appeared to be in their teens or perhaps early twenties. There were talking amongst themselves at a table, but got up and went behind the counter once I arrived.
One of these young women had a neutral personality, but the other one was openly rude and disrespectful.
I politely asked what sundae sizes they had and the mean girl sighed, rolled her eyes and irritatedly pointed to where they had cups of various sizes on display on the counter.
There is nothing wrong with a customer asking what sizes of sundaes are available and a customer shouldn’t be treated in a condescending manner for asking.
When I politely responded that I wanted a large sundae, the mean girl sighed and rolled her eyes again before preparing the large sundae.
A paying customer shouldn’t be treated with disrespect for politely ordering food from a restaurant. That is a wrong and unacceptable way to treat a paying customer.
The mean girl acted annoyed that the large sundae cups were kept at the backend of the behind the counter work area instead of up front near the ice cream which meant that she had to walk back to get a large cup.
It’s not my fault that the work area was set up in a cumbersome, inefficient manner. That is something that the mean girl needs to take up with her boss.
I suspect that the mean girl is probably the daughter or some other sort of relative of the owner. This girl shouldn’t be allowed to be mean to customers just because she is likely related to the owner.
The owner has an obligation to make sure that their paying customers are treated with courtesy and respect and that all employees, even relatives, treat the customers in a friendly manner.
I will certainly never go back here and pay for the privilege of being disrespected by a mean girl with an attitude and no appreciation for the customers who provide a livelihood for her family.
This restaurant does have an interesting and unique concept of combining a Mexican restaurant with an ice cream parlor.
I only ordered ice cream. I’m really not sure if one ordered an actual meal whether the restaurant would function like a table service restaurant or a self service fast food restaurant.
The layout of the restaurant as part ice cream parlor and part restaurant makes it hard to tell how it functions if one were to order an actual meal.
Considering how rude they were when I asked what sundae sizes they offered, I shudder to imagine how rude they would be if I tried to ask about this.
I see reviews here indicating that the reviewers actually received good service. These people were either waited on by someone else or perhaps the staff decides to treat some people better than others for whatever reason.
The ice cream here is average, but the rude service makes it not worth it. If the real ice cream parlor across the street, that actually treats people with respect, is closed for the day, I recommend just going to Culver’s to get your ice cream.
I originally thought that this was an independent, standalone, mom and pop restaurant, but from the other reviews here, I have learned that it’s apparently a franchise chain with other independently owned locations that are probably better.
There are certainly better ice cream parlors and Mexican restaurants in Galena where customers are actually treated with respect. They might not be combined into one restaurant like this place is, but...
Read moreI've been to multiple La Michoacana before and this one was just ok since we were in Galena. Food was decent but rice was bland. I shared a mangonada with the hubs and also shared the shrimp fajitas. Many shrimps and good size for $22. I did ask for extra tortillas and asked how much would it be and she said she didn't know. But stood there. So I asked...if you can please find out if you don't know? That would surely help. Then she went to ask the price for me. She was probably 13 years old helping the family out. And another little boy was there bussing. I felt like the creepy adult being served by child labor so that made me feel kinda bad. It was also strange to have ice cream on one side of the restaurant and then table next to it for lunch. Would my food gets cold? The little girl also made a mistake and undercharged me for the shrimp fajitas that was $5 less and also didn't charge me for the tortillas while being busy on the phone. What did I do? I had to tell her about it because again, I felt bad!!!!
My son ordered the kids meal grilled cheese with fries and it was just ok. Unfortunately it was not as good as the La Michoacana in my hometown. There are many restaurants in Galena and I actually felt like I made a mistake with this one 😔 3 stars for the mangonada and shrimp fajitas was...
Read moreThis is the BEST "late"-night snacks/dessert restaurant idea I've ever seen!
I visited around 9:30pm, so I didn't get to try any of the food on their regular menu. However, the breadth of options - all of which would likely be new to area residents and to many visitors who had little, experience with the snacks and desserts of Michoacan and/or México in general.
I'm not someone who likes spicy food, and spice was included in many of the fruity desserts. That left just one option for what I was seeking - and it fit the bill PERFECTLY! That was the Bionico with ice cream.
In the dish was some cream (not sure if it was flavored) with little piles of fruit on the bottom - cantaloupe, a thinly sliced very crisp apple, mango, strawberries. That was then topped with a scoop of ice cream (coconut by my request), shredded coconut, and granola. The ice cream and cream worked together to provide the perfect backdrop for each bite. Overall, it was a party for my mouth....
