A couple months ago, I saw this place being built. I'm Korean and I was excited to have a Korean restaurant open just minutes from my house. When they opened, I made an effort to give this restaurant a try.
First, the prices are somewhat expensive. There were some things in the lower teens but the things I wanted to try were mid teens to 20$.
Secondly, the number of Korean items is very little. The restaurant is mostly Japanese food of all types, especially sushi. Don't get me wrong, I love Japanese food but I was mainly looking for Korean dishes. There are only about 5 Korean dishes on a multi-page menu.
I ordered a Shoyu Kalbi Ramen bowl (14.95) and the 2 sushi roll lunch special (6.99), which includes a ginger salad and miso soup.
The sushi was decent overall. My rolls were the spicy tuna and salmon/avocado roll. One peeve of mine is how some sushi places mince/shred the fish and then put it in the roll. It's like they had leftover scraps of fish and didn't want to waste it. You end up with a pasty fish concoction. Now, the salmon avocado roll had a whole piece of salmon in it. It pleased me. However, the spicy tuna was that minced fish concoction I mentioned before. The flavor was OK but just the texture of minced fish is just off putting.
The ginger salad was typical of all Japanese restaurants. The miso however, had good flavor. I like my miso soups to be on the salty side.
The Shoyu Kalbi Ramen was very good. Nice portions of enoki mushrooms, spinach, bamboo shoots, and other veggies. Kalbi only consisted of 2 chunks of Korean short ribs (L.A. style). My only wish is that they add more noodles. I mean for 14.95, it's pricier than traditional Ramen places (I've been to them in New York).
Service was very good. Attentive waiter for sure.
Overall, I'll probably return, but not sure when because of the limited Korean options and...
Read moreThe food is delicious no matter what you get. The sushi is made skillfully and you can almost taste the care put into it. Their food is made in the more Korean and Japanese style, rather than only making American sushi, and it is a nice blend. They also have options for people who don't do well with sushi, such as fried shrimp. The prices are excellent for the quality they offer. The sushi is probably the cheapest items on the menu, and as expected the more exotic the food the pricier it will be. I go everytime I come home from college, it's been 4 times so far, and everytime the waitstaff are very nice and polite and cheerful and conduct themselves with good character. They come by the table frequently to check on you and to assist in any way they can. They are very friendly and don't drain your energy to interact with ( a blessing if you're an anxious introvert like myself). If they're very busy the host will lead you to a table, but if it's the middle of a weekday they will let you choose your own table. If you have room for dessert then I highly recommend the mochi. Not all the resturaunts in the chain carry every flavor, and the Gallatin one is no exception. So far as I've experienced, they don't carry the mango or peach flavor, but the green tea is delicious.
All in all this is now my favourite restaurant and I don't eat anywhere else if I...
Read moreI’ve lived in Nashville for three years, and I have a passion for great foot, experiences and food & wine/beverage pairings. I have tried so many different sushi and Japanese cuisine style restaurants and none of them even come close to Sapporo in Gallatin. From price point, to quality of food to the customer service and the freshness of their fish - this place is one of my favorite restaurants. I have become so comfortable with this place, the owner stops and hugs me every time. From the hamachi Kama (huuuge portion at a great price and the dipping sauce is out of this world) to the sashimi style sushi - eel, salmon, octopus, yellowtail, omg the eel… CHEFS KISS. I almost didn’t write this review because I don’t want Nashville to find out about this hidden gem hahahaha Stop in, try the hot plum sake, try the shumai (served with mustard - so crazy and risky since it’s mustard but ITS INCREDIBLE) and indulge in the sushi! You’ll...
