I actually went out of my way by 30 minutes to stop in for dinner because the owner(maybe? I believe so) had the guts to call out their pizza joint on a Raxxanterax live stream (if you know, you know). I was already 8 hours from home, so what's another half an hour for hopefully good pizza.
Ordered a 14" Stratton's Combo (basically a "supreme" pizza), buffalo wings, and a small salad with vinaigrette.
I'll skip through the salad and bone-in wings mostly. Salad was your typical side/dinner salad fare. Crisp cold lettuce and the usual onions, olives, croutons, etc.
Wings were tossed in the typical hot butter sauce and had a slight crisp to them and a juicy interior. Done well without being dry.
The kinds of things that don't really stand out unless they're done poorly or have a very unique spin. In other words, don't really affect the actual score much, if at all. I will say though that I was a bit miffed that no ranch or Bleu cheese dressing was given, nor was an option offered. I'm sure I could have asked, but if that kind of thing bothers you, uh, ask for sauce? Anyway the buffalo sauce was enough for me.
Now on to the pizza. Again the usual supreme style with the expected toppings. Overall a good pizza. Sauce was flavorful but not dripping. Cheese was nice and melty without being overwhelming, goopy, or (too) greasy. Crust had a bit of crisp and a nice chew, its flavor was good but mild. I don't recall any kind of heavy sourdough type of flavor. I did think it was a bit heavy on the "crust" ratio though. It's absolutely personal preference, but unless my pizza is very puffy or has a prominently seasoned crust, I prefer if the toppings go out closer to the edge.
I'm rather torn between ratings. While the food was great overall, I don't think there was anything that really popped out as being a standout or extremely memorable, and that's totally fine. And for me it didn't quite hit my nostalgia pizza button either, which may have made a difference.
Maybe some kind of real signature item might help to distinguish this shop, or something unique that helps the shop stand above the crowd. But no matter. If I was in the area again and I was wanting pizza, I wouldn't hesitate to eat there locally instead of being lazy and ordering generic delivery.
I did not get a dessert and did take home (aka hotel) most of the pizza and ate the rest cold or microwaved for the rest of the day and the next. This did not affect the score.
Ok after a bit of thought I will say that I'm now leaning a bit more towards 4 than 5. I remember now that I tasted the sausage separately from the pizza and honestly the flavor was really bland, almost to the point where I was wondering if was actually Italian sausage. Given all of the flavors the sausage gets rather lost, which is ok, but on its own it just didn't stand up to scrutiny.
But bravo for stepping up and naming the place on a game streamer's...
Read moreFriends took us to lunch here. We thought the place was going to be packed because there weren't many places to park; must be shared parking with other businesses. Wasn't your typical dark pizza joint atmosphere. Plenty of sunshine able to shine in making it very light atmosphere inside. Have to say, the pizza was pretty darn good. Not my favorite, but that just my personal preference. We ordered a half pepperoni and half combo. Their crust is thin, but didn't have that floppy thin crust feel. It was nice and golden- like you get with a pan pizza- just thin; if that makes sense. I'm not a fan of mushrooms, so I pick them off. Was nice to see they were actual slices of mushrooms and not these paper thin ones that coat a pizza like other places. (Made it easier for me to remove) So if you like mushrooms, they have actual sliced mushrooms you can taste. They had a selection of arcade games for the kids/adults and some coin operated claw machine type things. The main ones I noticed were: a Walking Dead pinball machine we had fun playing, and on the opposite side there was a massive Minecraft Dungeons game with places for up to 3 players and a Jurassic Park driving game you sat inside. They also had flat screen TV's around the place up on the walls and a small bar area right when you walked in the door. Definitely a place I would eat at again next time...
Read moreUPDATE: Oou Favorite is to order a large 3 topping (much cheaper) to order a large pizza & when asked first topping #1 Pepperoni 2 topping Pepperoni & #3 topping? You guessed it Pepperoni. Speciality Pizzas I can't afford these days. Although AGAIN only 4 ⭐s because if anyone remembers Papa's Bread sticks they were cheap because it was left over from pizza dough the edges & some made. Papa's couldn't have made much profit & that's not what there thoughts were. The bread sticks were at least 3 X's bigger and 3 X's cheaper so the high school students & public could get them quick & cheap we'd get a dozen for $ 5.00. Nice to see priced drop for a change . Stratton's Pizza is still Amazing Pizza. I only give 4 star because if anyone remembers Papa's Pizza then they remember that we bought bread sticks 3X's bigger & 12 for $ 3.00 plain or cinnamon 🤤 yummy. So to pay $6.00 for 6 small bread sticks (that are made with left over dough cut away from the pizza) That's just a bit too much for me. Otherwise I go no place else for...
