I love this place for the most part, great family restaurant, clean and homey environment, most of the servers are nice. They get to you right away, their salmon and breakfasts are good. Blts are good, ice cream is really good and don't want to leave anything negative, but their salads "suck" and I've tried ordering them a few times. And when you order one of their almost 20 dollar salads, It should be expected to be good! I almost wanted to get sick this last tine and I tried SO hard to get it down since my husband spent so much on a salad for me, but I just couldn't. Lettuce at a restaurant should be crisp, as fresh as possible, not wilted, not discolored (brown or mung on it) not soggy. I wanted a cobb salad with tri-tip and ranch. No bleu cheese crumbles. Gave me blue cheese crumbles lettuce was partially crisp and partially all of the above dislikes. And the steak was fatty, greasy, and lots of grizzle.🤢 I asked for it to be well done, it wasn't. I ate maybe 5 bites and tossed it in the garbage. So if you want ice cream, salmon, blts, breakfast YES! But salads no, and if that's tri-tip I don't know why its that fatty. Sorry...I so want this to be 4/5 stars like I rated before. I live in Galt and we only have 3 pkaces to choose from to eat this kind of food and though Velvet beats Dennys on food quality with everything else, it doesn't at salads and it's got better hours over Olde Town Diner, both Denny's and Olde town have much better salads. I hope this changes in the near future but it will be awhile before I try a salad from them again. I litterly threw it out 10 min ago and am writing this review, thats just how disappointing...

The Velvet Grill and Creamery in Galt is my go-to spot for delicious diner fare and old-fashioned ice cream. As a regular, I can confidently say the star of the menu is the French toast. This isn't your average French toast - it's essentially funnel cake in French toast form with a crispy exterior and a soft, cake-like interior. Every sweet bite melts in your mouth. For a savory option, the croissant breakfast sandwich is a must-try. Flaky croissant bread layered with egg, cheese, and protein makes for a satisfying handheld meal.
Beyond the food, the charm of this place brings me back again and again. Step inside and you'll feel transported back in time with the large vinyl booths. At the ice cream counter, vibrant art and upbeat music lend a contemporary vibe. Watching the staff scoop homemade ice cream is a showstopper.
Whether sitting at the retro counter or a homey booth, the staff provides prompt, friendly service.
For an indulgent breakfast or sweet treat, The Velvet Grill and Creamery delivers comfort and nostalgia with innovative style. The ceramic cow outside invites you to visit this neighborhood gem in Galt to experience its delicious food and...
Read moreLori was extremely rude, never came to check in or refill drinks. The only times she did engage with our table she was short and acted like she didn't have time for the table.
The utensils were filthy, the lemonade had random food bits stuck to the cup inside and out.
I ordered the chicken fried steak which was the saddest entree I've had. The gravy had absolutely no flavor and tasted like flour. The chicken was worse in quality than a chicken patty from a McChicken, it seriously would have been better.
The black bean burrito was even blander than the steak somehow. Chipotle sauce? More like sour cream with a hint of tomatoes.
The breakfast croissant sandwich? Would have been better off just grabbing croissants from Costco than that stale lifeless thing they brought out. Finished off the meal with barely cooked potatoes no crispyness in site.
The waffle is last - literally a plain waffle with no butter, no whipped cream, nothing? $13 for this?
All in all - I have absolutely no idea how this place is 4.5 stars at the time of writing this.
Interestingly enough they are charging prices that keep par with restaurants downtown which is close to $20 per plate.
