Local Dogs - A Great Galveston Stop! Just got back from Galveston after getting some awesome drone footage of the Carnival Dream leaving port and needed a bite before hitting the road back to Houston. Checked Yelp and Local Dogs was high on the list, so I stopped in around 5 PM. I can see why it's so well-rated—it's a solid spot! The Good Stuff (The "Pros") * The staff was incredibly friendly, making for a very welcoming experience. * The entire restaurant was spotlessly clean, and I appreciated the open kitchen concept—you can tell they take pride in their space. * My food came out super fast! I'm not sure if that's standard, but it wasn't busy when I was there. * The main event, the hot dog, was genuinely tasty. I got the Coney Islander (chili, onions, cheese, and mustard). It hit the spot! * A small but important detail: the fountain drink ice is fantastic! It's like a smaller, chewable nugget/pebble ice. A+ for that. * They even have free stickers (grabbed a couple for my drone case) --- Room for Improvement (The "Cons") * The biggest letdown was the fries. They were a bit limp and definitely needed to be double-fried for some much-needed crispiness. * The sugar-free drink options are very limited—only Pepsi Zero and iced tea. Would love to see a few more zero-sugar choices. Overall Despite the fries, I really enjoyed my stop at Local Dogs. The friendly service, clean environment, and tasty dog make it a great spot for a quick and satisfying meal in Galveston. I’d recommend checking it out.

Our first visit here, and we were so impressed! The owners have done an incredible job transforming a 1920s filling station into a warm, inviting hot dog spot. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming, and the staff is both friendly and professional. The food was excellent—I had the Coney Islander and my wife had the Local, and both were outstanding. It was also great to see Mic & Ash right there with their team, working hard and adding to the experience. This place is truly a hidden gem, and we’ll definitely be back! News flash: we’re not in Chicago! For those knocking this spot because their hot dogs aren’t “Chicago-style snap dogs,” remember—we’re in Texas. I don’t think they’re even trying to copy Chicago dogs, and that’s okay. If you want an exact replica, head back to Chicago. 😉 This place just opened, and like any new restaurant, it takes a little time to perfect everything. I’m sure they’re listening to feedback and working to make things even better. Give them a break, enjoy what they’re bringing to the table, and let them grow into it. Just my two cents worth! Don't mess with Texas. 🇨🇱🤠🤣

Local Dogs is a gourmet twist on the classic hotdog done right. I’ve had the pleasure of trying several of their dogs, and each one was a hit. The Carolina—with pulled pork, slaw, and bits of apple—was a perfect balance of salty and sweet. The Philly dog, a clever take on a cheesesteak, nailed the flavor and texture. The Coney was their elevated spin on the traditional coney dog, and of course, the classic chili cheese dog stood out with its rich, flavorful chili sauce. What really sealed the deal for me was the side of fresh hand-cut fries—crispy on the outside, soft inside, and generously portioned. The atmosphere is laid-back and family-friendly, with outdoor games and a bar inside playing sports—great for both locals and vacationers. Definitely a place where everyone can kick back and enjoy some seriously good food.

Local Dogs We tried the place today for the first time. It is a lot bigger than we expected. It was clean, sharp and comfy.

I really like how it is set up. There are a couple of long ramps leading up to the ordering counter. Off to the left of the ramps you will find a beverage fridge and merchandise shelf. In front of ordering counter and all the way to the north end of the building exists ample space to get condiments and refill your soft drinks/water and even sit at the bar with 3 large televisions. They have several tvs around the store, some with Restoring Galveston programming (Michael and Ashley Cordray's television show on Magnolia Network), but also with other stuff available. Michael changed the station on one tv to the 9ers/Raiders preseason game (awesome).

The food? My Lubba Lee Carabajal had a Philly and I had the Chicago dog. For sides, we had hand-cut fries, deviled eggs and Cajun fried corn (hushpuppies). She had an orange flavored soda and I had an Ultra. It was all amazing, fresh and delicious! Make sure you actually read the menu (it literally says HOT DOGS at top of menu...lol). Lee thought she was getting a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. That being said, they do offer more than just hot dogs.

Michael came over and asked how everything was for us...it was very much appreciated. Lubba wanted to get a pic with him but he wasn't out an about when we were heading out. Next time, Michael!

The music on their sound system was all mostly 90s and early 2000's which we really enjoyed.

We love supporting local businesses. We also bought some merch! We will be back to try other menu items and maybe even the snow cones that...
