Good Dough isn't good. It's more like Okay Dough. Or, Only stop by if you're within 5 minutes, Dough.
My girlfriend and I stopped in on a weekend, because I saw an excellent rating on Google Maps. I thought I was in for a culinary masterpiece. I was wrong.
My girlfriend and I purchased 3 kolaches; a cherry compote kolache, a brisket kolache, and a taco flavored kolache.
The cherry compote kolache was decent. Topped with a sweet and slightly tangy compote, it was a solid choice. Nothing to get mad about, but nothing to write home about either.
The brisket kolache was disappointing. It's only offered on weekends, maybe because there is no demand for it on weekdays, and for good reason. For something so Texan, it is rather uninspired. The brisket and kolache combination was okay. The texture of the brisket was fine as well. There's a sticky layer of barbecue sauce on the top that doesn't do a whole lot for it, but it's there. In my eyes, the kolache was a little small, and was under filled. This could be excusable if it was bursting with flavor, but it was underwhelming at best. This is worth trying once, but Kolache Factory has a much better version of the same product, in my opinion.
The taco kolache was not very good. It's filled with poorly seasoned taco meet, onions, and other things that constitute a taco. The texture of the stuffing is like a very poorly mixed jello; chunky and gooey all at the same time. I was expecting ground beef, but I got beef mush. Poorly seasoned beef mush. There is a hint of taco seasoning, but it is as if someone simply took a free sample of the McCormick taco seasoning instead of using the whole bag.
Despite all of the short comings of Good Dough, it is at least worth trying once, if nothing else, to form an opinion for yourself.
We will not be visiting Mid Dough anytime in the...
Read moreExcellent kolaches. I had never been before so I just purchased a large variety. I preferred the savory options to the sweet. The BBQ kolache was delicious, and the one that was described as a Mexican breakfast taco was phenomenal. The sausage/egg/gravy kolache was just right and that's hard to do. Definitely better than the other nearby options that I've tried that offer this flavor (Kolache Factory or Mornings kolaches). I tried the birthday cake kolache which appeared to be a signature item and wasn't a huge fan. It tasted mostly of cream cheese. But the blueberry kolache was incredible. Next time I will lean more towards the savory. The website indicates a rotating variety of flavors and I would love to try more that I didn't see today. Will certainly be back.
As an aside, the staff was very friendly and the space was clean. They offer a small selection of beverages and MOD coffee which is a nice nod to another local joint. Perfect place to grab breakfast for the family on...
Read moreThis place has amazing kolaches and most of them aren't your typical fruit filled ones, although they do have some of those. The flavor combinations are terrific and the names are whimsical, like Cha Cha Cha for Birthday Cake, which are very good by the way. Ones that my family have enjoyed are Teacher’s Pet (Caramel Apple) , my favorite Sam I Ham (Ham + Cheese), The Fungus Amungus (Dilly Cream + Fresh Mushroom - really unique and flavorful), Show Me Your Bloobs (Blueberry). Not everything is available every day so you need to plan ahead or go multiple times. I'm tempted by a number of other flavors but haven't had them yet. The dough is more cake like than some of the other kolaches I've had. I was sorry to see that Bear Fruit Bakery close but it is great that Good Dough has opened and is offering this area...
