mediocre food, confusingly shabby service. part 1/2 I'm really confused as to why this place has such a high rating. I'm convinced it's the locals who give it such a high rating and in turn, they're served their food at acceptable speeds upon presenting their unreasonably favorable review. my friends and I visited this place after a quick Google search while we were vacationing in Galveston. We were craving authentic homestyle Mexican breakfast in a casual setting. The name of the place is what lured me in, and upon seeing the high rating we were sold. when we walked into the relatively empty (there were about two other patrons sparsely scattered in the space of about 20 four-tops), we were greeted with the familiar and pleasant aroma of a Mexican breakfast kitchen: warm tortillas, frying eggs and coffee. we were told that we could sit anywhere we pleased, o we picked out a table and sat. We were offered coffee + beverages before our orders were taken as is typical of any restaurant. That's pretty much where the hospitality ended. I don't know if we did something wrong upon walking in or if we just had the words "TOURISTS/OUTSIDERS"emblazoned on our foreheads, but once we placed our orders we only saw our waiter swing by to replenish our coffee cups once. We waited for our food at least 30 minutes. During this time span, we noticed that at least two other tables that had definitely arrived after us had had their orders taken, been served, finished their meals and left. additionally, two other tables had arrived and were in the process of eating the food they had ordered. the waiter never once came over to offer apologies or explanation for the wait nor did we call him over to complain as we were mostly extremely confused and didn't want our food was mishandled. keep in mind that this establishment is strictly a breakfast diner. They don't offer complicated entrees. Their bread and butter is pretty much eggs with some kind of meat, flour tortillas made in house and other easily and rapidly prepared Mexican breakfast fare. the plates we ordered were nothing extravagant or in excessive quantities(Huevos rancheros, huevos a la mexicana chorizo con frijoles). while we waited we nibbled on the chips and salsa that were brought out. The salsa tasted canned for the most part, which is a huge sin at any self-respecting Mexican joint in my opinion(I suppose then, that I should be grateful that we were only brought a small bowl of salsa while other patrons, we noticed, had much larger bowls at their table). once we finally received our food, we were hoping that perhaps it would be worth the wait. NEGATORY. my huevos rancheros were served with a tepid (in flavor and temperature) sauce on the side(who does that? they are served with the sauce on top of the eggs, people! that's huevos rancheros 101!) and flavorless potatoes on the side. my friends were also not impressed with the food, given the long wait. About two spoonfuls into our meals, the waiter returned with the check. If it's one thing that I absolutely loathe in restaurants is having to wait a ridiculously long time for a meal and then have the check brought out while I'm still trying to process the fact that I finally have food in my mouth. the waiter came by again about 10 minutes later to see if we wanted to order something else but his demeanor suggested incredulity and mild annoyance at the fact that we weren't done eating nor had we paid the check. I have never felt so unwelcome as a patron in a restaurant in my life. 2nd part in photos.

1st visit - not a good start. Sign on door states orders can take 30-45 minutes or more. After we sat down a staff member asked if we would like chips and salsa. Yes, please! Chips are store bought. Salsa is practically tomato juice. I've had better flavor and more substance from a can of Pace Mild. I gave the salsa and chips right back. This is EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING as there are Hispanic/Latino staff members cooking and managing. SOMEONE here knows how to make decent salsa. It's 9:30 am on FATHER'S DAY and they have no pancake batter. AMAZING. Restaurant needs some serious cleaning. Caked on dust on all ceiling fans. I hope to God they don't get turned on and throw that stuff everywhere. The other tables are only getting wiped down with wet rags. No cleaning/disinfecting solution? FINALLY! GREEN, homemade salsa! Why did the waitress tell me they only had one salsa??? Get rid of the red 'salsa'. It's likely going in the trash daily... And that's it. Got the food. Bacon is burnt to a crisp. Kids won't touch it. Wife's eggs came out in a pool of oil. She's done. I ordered a plate of papas con huevo. I got enough to make 1 taco and 2lbs of refried beans. Boo. I'm done. Not returning. The staff comped my entire order. I appreciate the gesture but I came to eat and pay. Maybe they should eat what they serve so they understand why it's so disappointing. Good luck.

I’m sorry. I hate to leave bad reviews but this is my 4th time to visit in many years and the last. The waitress: “Careful! It’s a hot plate!” No, it wasn’t LOL. It was warm but the food was room temperature. The beans were cold and had no flavor. NONE! How is that even possible? The chips were stale; it took way too long to get coffee refills and the meat was dried up and old. The corn tortillas I ordered were also cold and stale. Mmmm. Give me more!!! No masks; no social distancing but hey! It’s all a hoax anyway, right? It was absolutely horrible but the waitress was delightful, cheerful & so entertaining I left her $10 on a $30 tab. The salsa was delicious but that’s it! No more. I won’t mention any competitor’s names here but check out my other reviews for pretty good Mexican breakfasts here on the island. I really hate to say I haven’t had any REALLY excellent Mexican food since I left Austin.

I’m not a review leaver but this needs to be said. The elderly hispanic woman with striped blonde and brown hair is RUDE. RUDE RUDE OMG RUDE. I walked in and looked on the counter for a menu and she abruptly asked me “here or to go?” I said “to go may” is all I got out before she talked over me frowning and said “go over there” and shooed me with her hand. I said you don’t have to be so rude and of course she mean mugged me the entire time I was there. Walked behind me multiple times brushing against me when the whole restaurant was open, plenty of other routes. I even moved and she did it twice more as if she was trying to intimidate me. Had my husband not been waiting for his burrito I would’ve walked out. Customers are what keep your small business going, I could’ve and obviously should’ve gone to Whataburger. NEVER AGAIN. EDITING TO ADD: Had a couple bites of my husbands burrito... BLAND. Bad service AND bad food. The only thing that was good was the red sauce. I’d buy a gallon of it if they sold it and she...
