Nick's — Restaurant in Galveston

If walmart workers worked at a restaurant/bar....

This review is for both Nicks and Redfish since it seemed to have the same management. Keep in mind I worked in the service industry for 13 years. We planned our visit around Nicks/Redfish since it was close to our hotel and figured it would be a good spot for drinks, food, and some pool time. This was the first place we stopped (Sunday around 4pm) and we paid the $20 for 2 adults to get into the pool area. We sat at the bar and waited no less than 20 minutes and all we got was menus. When we asked for waters they pointed us to a jug at the end of the bar. Never came around or much acknowledged us after that. They made no effort pick up the pace which of course caused a backup at the bar. We decided to leave and come back later when they were less busy.

We came back after making a few stops, just after 830pm hoping to grab dinner, drinks, and take a dip at their pool. We sat at the bar and the bartender told me she couldn't serve us because she already called last call. Okay, closing at 830pm on a Sunday in a tourist town seems a bit early, but thats a different discussion. We immediately asked for a manager because we wanted a refund of our $20 entry since we weren't allowed service, she then offered us 2 free drinks to compensate for it...after she just told us she couldn't serve us! We declined and asked for the manager. The manager came out and without question or hesitation refunded our entry fees which I did appreciate. I then asked the manager if we could at least get a to-go order but didn't want to set anyone back by ordering close to closing time. He said she, and to order at the inside bar.

The inside bar tenders were worse than the outside ones. Didn't offer water or drinks, didn't really focus on customers except to try and close down. We had small chit chat with them and ordered our food. I'm not one to rush a kitchen especially before closing but other tables that ordered after us were getting food. So it was 40 minutes later and we asked the bartenders to check on our food. She came right out with it. Didn't even have a desire to check on our food that had probably been sitting there 20+ minutes. This is terrible practice for any service industry. I regretted the to-go tip I left for that poor service but it was too late and at that point I didn't care. We ended up taking the food to an outside table and eating ourselves. Terrible experience for our little getaway.

The only reason I didn't give it 1 star was because the manager was quick to refund us the money, but other than that the staff need to be retrained. Never seen such poor...

Its a quaint option but parking is...
