My wife and I really enjoy this place, she likes the Maki roll and the miso soup. The Maki roll is her favorite because it is made with spicy tuna avocado, and salmon. The miso soup here his her favorite out of all the places we have tried. It does taste as close as possible to the ones we had in Japan. It comes with soft tofu, dried seaweed and a flavorful broth. It is a wholesome thing that you sometimes crave and it will pick you up and set you right back on track. I had the tuna Frito, the salmon skin roll, and the mackerel. The tuna Frito is made with spicy tuna, fried which makes it crunchy and tasty. The salmon skin roll probably one of my favorites it is crispy and rich, and garnished with caviar. Mackerel is a two piece set the fish is cured and cooked. The fish is fatty , flavorful and makes for a nice bite. Eventually I will have to make it over to the Hibachi side but at the moment I'm stuck at the sushi bar the guys are making sushi are friendly and will answer your question about the menu. The servers were also right there with drinks and making sure we had what we needed. My wife had a Savion Blanc and I had the Sapporo beer, they also offer sake and they have a wine and beer menu that should have something for everyone. A nice local joint and the second time I've been here I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. Still a favorite of ours.

30/10 we did only sushi, for 5 people. We each had our own appetizer and we ordered between 2-4 sushi orders each & 2 bottles of saki fuji flavored and 4 beers. We spent about $300 but we ate A LOT of food each (we haven't eaten all day). Honestly, the food.... was so so delicious. Probably the best cream crab puffs I've ever had. They melted right in the mouth. We had the crab stuffed mushrooms. I dont even like mushrooms and it was SO good. The texture was great. My personal plates were mostly from the seasonal menu. It felt like each dish was better than the last. We had the 3 kings, the fish tasted so fresh. After each piece I sat just to savor the taste. The only sushi plate they have on they're regular menu that I tried was the shaggy dog. Usually a simple so so roll. I took a bite not expecting much, it was phenomenal. I had to ask everyone at the table to try one piece. Everyone couldn't believe how delicious such a simple roll is. I am not sure if it's because they are so close to the beach but the sushi was so fantastic. Highly recommend if you like sushi and can appreciate the creativity they put into they're seasonal menus.

Love this place. While in Galveston, this quickly became a favorite place to visit (especially given that’s it’s by far the best sushi on the island). They have excellent rolls here with great flavor combinations and usually have seasonal specials that they switch out. They also offer hibachi, including hibachi style cooking (where they cook in front of you). My all time favorite roll is the red dragon. Pictured below is the sumo roll and poppin roll - both specials. Only downside here is how busy it gets at time. When it’s busy, wait times can be long and service can be a bit slow. Also, of course, added noise. Despite all that, well worth the wait and one of my island favorites. #yamato #japanese #galveston #galvestonisland #tx #sushi #hibachi

DisclaimerIF YOU HAVE KIDS DO NOT GO HERE I’d like to start by saying I’ve never left a bad review for any restaurant I’ve ever been to in my entire life. I came with the expectation of great customer service since I myself have worked in the food industry as well. Upon my arrival, my family and I had a head count for our table with also informing staff we have a toddler and we’d need a high chair as well. The restaurant had just opened at 5pm so it was empty with the exception of a family of 3 besides us. For starters, they sat us at the incorrect table, never brought out our toddler’s high chair and cup although asking at the entrance and also requesting it from our server more than twice. When our chef came out (he was very pleasant and i would only go back for him) he started prepping our food and as any hibachi restaurants always does, they had put fire on the grill. Our toddler who is 2 happened to get startled and started crying (like any normal toddler of 2 years would have to a fire). The manager (im assuming) who was a female about 5’2, black short bob, and Asian had the nerve to tell our table we’d have to be quiet due to the baby crying because of the fire and mind you we had taken the baby out of the restaurant at this point. I found that to be very rude considering there was no one else in the restaurant we’d be disturbing besides the family of 3 i mentioned earlier. Who happened to be close enough to our table we could hear their conversation, so if a complain was made we would have been well aware. I was confident I’d have a great experience since they do have 4star ratings and good reviews for the most part. Unfortunately, they definitely...

Yamato’s in Galveston has been a beloved staple in our community for years, and it’s easy to see why. The food is consistently exceptional, featuring fresh ingredients and authentic flavors that never fail to impress. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or new to Japanese cuisine, the menu offers a variety that caters to all tastes. One of our absolute favorites is the Shaggy Dog Roll, which is always packed with flavor and perfectly balanced. The nigiri sushi is always fresh, delicate, and expertly prepared—each piece is a bite of perfection.

What really sets Yamato’s apart is the personal touch the owners bring. This family-owned gem in Galveston has been run by a team of dedicated, friendly people who have become like extended family to many of us in the community. The owners are genuinely passionate about their restaurant and always make a point to connect with guests. The service is always warm, attentive, and sincere—it’s clear they care deeply about making every dining experience special.

Over the years, Yamato’s has become more than just a place to eat; it’s a spot to relax, catch up with friends and family, and enjoy great food in a cozy, welcoming environment. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion, you can count on Yamato’s for delicious, satisfying meals. If you’re looking for top-quality sushi, fantastic rolls, and a restaurant with heart and soul, this is definitely the...

We came to the restaurant for my birthday, expected a great experience and food since there are so many 5 star reviews. We walked in, it took 10 minutes to get seated once they asked an older woman on a cane to move so we could sit down at the table she was at in the front of the restaurant. We all talked about sitting at the bar instead, but none of us felt comfortable enough to do so, because one of the workers who stood right behind the bar had been staring at us since we had walked in, like he had never seen women before. About 20 minutes goes by, They get our drink order, as our waiter brings them to us, another person comes and asks us to get up from that table and move. We get sat at an hibachi table with another family. None of us were getting hibachi. Mind you, that worker behind the bar, had been staring until we got moved to the hibachi table. Another waiter comes to us and we order some food finally. They serve us soup, and no utensils. It took over 10 minutes to get them. About 25 minutes later, the entire table has their food. Except for me. At this point we’ve had 5 different waiters, all ask me what I’ve ordered. I never got my food until the 7 people at my table were finished eating and we were all receiving our checks. This place makes you feel uncomfortable, the prices are a little high for the poor service and food. We were all so very disappointed in the...
