Ultimate Salmon Mac & Cheese Was in town for a quick getaway and wanted to enjoy some local cruise. Found a review about this dish and was intrigued. The restaurant is just off the seawall strip. It's pleasant and nicely decorated inside but you won't be able to enjoy an ocean view.
Having a look around I was immediately impressed by the food The dishes I saw looked appetizing and very generous. Wait staff was attentive and friendly
I started.with a lemonade, nothing special tasted like Minute Maid, not really lemonade in my book. At least go with a Simply Lemonade.
I took a quick pass at the menu and zeroed on the Mac & Cheese. I'll say it's a bit pricey probably the most expensive item on the menu. Even though the restaurant was pretty busy, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time.
Upon seeing the dish I was astounded. This is a lot of food! A full sized serving of salmon fillet a top a mountain of seafood medley. I was simultaneously delighted and confounded. Is this dish meant for one person? I would recommend splitting the dish with a date. It came with a small side of.bread, I wish it came with more to eat with the sauce, but I digress.
I started with the salmon, it was nicely seared with a good amount of spices, I would have liked it a bit more raw in the center, but it was well prepared. I had some of the grilled asparagus spears which paired nicely. Next I tried a shrimp, large and blackened just right. I moved on to the pasta, Gouda sauce, and mushrooms. I found this to be the star of the show. The sauce is very rich and buttery. I did my best to combine it with the salmon and shrimp, it left me wanting more sauce and bread. This is where the bread is key. The combination of the toasted garlic bread sauce and seafood is amazing. Finally I tried a bit of the diced sausage. I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I was concerned the sausage might be overpowering but to my delight it went perfectly with the dish. All in all I was very happy with the meal.
If I had a criticism I wish the calamari would have been a bit more tender. Food was so good I ate more than half of the meal. My goal was about half. I ended up eating more because wanted to eat it at its best. I did end up nuking and eating the rest the next day, it was still good. Really wish I had some of that bread to go with it.
When in Galveston I will certainly return to...
Read moreNothing pains me more than writing a negative review about a place that I had such high hopes for. From the second we arrived, we should have gotten into our car and left. The stench coming from the building was worst than any sewer smell that I've ever been around. We quickly walked in and I will say that we were greeted by a very nice hostess. After being sat, our server took our drink order, and acted as if we were a nuisance for even being there. We weren't going to let her poor attitude ruin our night. When she came back she said, "Have you made up your mind?" We said, yes, and that's when she informed us that we would have to leave because her manager said that they were not allowed to take any more orders due to the fact that both of their bathrooms were out of order. (Hence the sewer smell) We said, okay and were about to leave when she said that she just needed to ring up the one drink that we had, $5.19 for one fountain Dr Pepper. Let's forget that even with inflation, five dollars is ridiculous for a fountain beverage in any restaurant. But, this drink was almost untouched, my wife had taken one sip before we were told that we would have to leave. I asked to speak to the manager, our server left and returned later stating that the manager said that we didn't have to leave after all, but we would not be allowed to go to the restrooms, because they were still both out of order. At this time we counted three other parties being seated with new menus. I told the server that this was not going to be acceptable and again asked to speak to the manager. The server returned and said the manager said that we were free to go. Never once coming to the table. My only regret is that I didn't call the health department for their blatant disregard to public safety. If someone is willing to continue serving food knowing that they are in such a violation, I couldn't imagine what other violations are going on in the back of the house. The Cajun Greek is one restaurant that I plan to never return to, and I'll be sure to warn anyone that I care about to never eat...
Read moreLately I have been ordering the crawfish in every restaurant in Galveston that offers it. This is my first negative review. While the quality of the crawfish was not bad and the crawfish was not overcooked or undercooked, it had no flavor. It tasted like boiled crawfish. When my waitress asked me how I liked it, I told her it had no flavor and asked her if this was the spicy I ordered. She said yes but she also offered more seasoning, which was just chili powder. I was pretty disappointed. I had high hopes and expectations for Cajun Gteek. The potato and corn were also not tasty either. My daughter, who usually will eat several servings, left them on the plate for the first time ever. I'm glad I didn't order extra like I usually do. Btw, the reason I didn't order extra corn and potatoes is thar when I inquired about the price for extra corn and potatoes, i was told it was $4.99 for each extra piece. In comparison Hull Huli Hut charges $ 0.50 for each extra piece. I understand this is a pricier restaurant but charging $4.99 for half an ear of corn or 1 small red potato seems excessive. Especially considering the fact that it was just boiled. Normally I like this restaurant for its happy hour. I like their boudin balls, the shrimp, the tatzikii and feta plate. I also had the seafood and fish plates in the past and they were pretty flavorful. I don't understand why they are not adding any seasonings other than chili to the crawfish, corn and potatoes. I paid my bill and gave my usual 20% tip to the waitress because it wasn't her fault that the food didn't taste good but it would have been nice if a manager or somebody had checked on us when I told her the food was flavorless. I didn't want to act like a Karen, so I salted the heck out of it and drowned it in butter and ate it like that but I have crossed Cajun Greek off my list of restaurants I will...
