After finding the restaurant (no visible signs while driving into the resort) we were promptly seated with menus in a beautiful open air craftsman/bar with open glass doors on 3 sides.
Then we waited 30 minutes to order drinks while the 3 parties that arrived after us (2 of which were with our waitress) had appetizers or a second round of wine bottle before we were even able to order our drinks. Once we did order them (and our apps and entrees all at once, since we weren't sure when we'd get out next chance) the drinks arrived quickly, and the app didn't follow long after.
Our waitress was extremely apologetic about the wait, citing "short staffing" three times, despite the obvious mishandling of orders. (At one point she apologized to us and said she was just dropping off some water then would be "right over" to take our order. She then severed two tables food, another a bottle of wine, took another's order and vanished for 10 more minutes.)
When she performed the "two bite check up" on our entrees (more on the food in minute) she asked about more drinks, so I ordered another. "Coming right up," she said. I got it when I was trying to ask for the check, plates clean. She said (this was after dropping off a dessert menu) she didn't forget, but didn't get a chance before then. Odd, given the dessert menu and how quickly the first round came out. But it got weirder when the check did come and she noted it was missing the second drink. For a second I thought she was comping it to make up for the poor service until she doubled down and said "the actual bill with be $12 more."
Needless to say the lipservice was great, but the service was not.
The food itself was okay, but overpriced for the final product. I'm also pretty sure I was served the NY Strip instead of the Ribeye, and there was little marbling for a Wagyu and no crust (which I feel makes a Waygu worth it). The sides were mediocre, and my wife's burger was twice the price and half the quality of our local burger bar in SLC (on 13th St).
It seems they're aiming for fine dining given the ambiance, menu and prices, but the service and execution just leave too much...
Read moreWhenever we stay at Bear Lake either alone or with friends, we always make it a point to do a date night at Campfire Grill. We have visited there happily many times as we have a cabin at the lake. This time, however, was a proverbial slap in the face to the consumer given the price one pays to eat there. They had one waitress on a Saturday night. Based on several comments from the waitress, including, "I like it this way, busy, busy, busy," one cal only assume this is the off-season model.
We arrived for our reservation and were left to stand at the hostess station because they also didn't have a hostess. Given that this was fall break for many school districts, no matter how you slice it, this was a staffing fail for this particular weekend. Eventually, the pizza chef offered us a menu while we waited to be sat. 10 minutes after our reservation, we were sat and asked to be patient. Patience is one thing, but poor service is a whole different story. While thus waitress happily struggled with too many tables, the pizza chef hung out at the end of the bar chatting with, no doubt, an attractive young lady, who came in after us, but got her food (pizza), well before we were even served our drinks. While we were waiting to order, we watched our waitress clear debris from the bar area he was manning.
My husband ordered a soda we had to ask for twice and never received a refill for. As for the food, my husband's pasta was good, not great. My meal, which was the waygu meatloaf was as charming as a Stouffer's Salisbury steak meal. I regretted every bite, wishing I had ordered the NY Strip, which is always phenomenal. Gluttony for punishment that we must be, we ordered dessert after many attempts to get the waitress' attention. It was okay. The carrot cake lacked the traditional density in both the cake and the icing that one typically expects, and the cookie skillet had a bit of a chalky edge to it.
Ultimately, when one goes to a restaurant at this price point, one expects top notch service and food to match. That was not the case on this occasion. And, as long as this remains their model for service in the off-season, we...
Read moreWe decided to eat at the campfire grill while we stayed at the ranch. We checked out the menu online first thought it had a fun atmosphere. So we took our family to breakfast. The menu we got was not the same one as online they also offered us no kids menu. When I asked our waitress she said they didn’t have one and when I showed her they had an option called the “little ranchers breakfast” she acted confused went and asked another waitress and came back and said they still didn’t have one. I have 4 kids ages 11 to 4. So she then brings out these massive tall glasses that are way too big and nice for all my kids. I asked her if they had kids cups and she said no and then I pointed out the table next to us and their child had a cup with lid and a straw and she said sorry and I told her that there would probably be an accident and my kids were most likely going to spill it. She just walked away. Worst service. Then they bring out our food. They offer no breakfast combo plates so if you want bacon separate charge, you want hash browns separate charge. So I ordered a breakfast burrito that was $10.95. They offer a meat and cheese of your choice. When they brought it out I was like what is this, so I opened it up no meat. It was pathetic. My 11 year old could have made that. Also didn’t even heat the tortilla. So awful. Next my 4 year old goes to finally take a drink of her sprite and spills it all over her and the floor. Didn’t even make it to her mouth and it was $3.00. Didn’t offer us any discount I told them I wasn’t paying for my burrito because they made it wrong and I actually had to get up and show the other waitress because our waitress was avoiding our table. Worst experience I think I’ve ever had at any restaurant ever. Don’t waste your time and money. We payed $81.00 for a breakfast that we could have got at McDonald’s. No joke my kids ordered pancakes. They give you 3 the same size at McDonald’s. I’m just baffled. Wondering if the real chef was gone or if they are under new management after reading some people reviews. We did not have a...
