Don’t eat here if you have allergies or a specific diet! This restaurant is not gluten free friendly!
I was not only highly disappointed, but also sick to my stomach! I was excited when I saw how many gluten free options there were. Despite mentioning in many ways at many times that I needed my meal to be gluten free, I am now surviving a night of gluten exposure which will result in months of not absorbing important medications. As a heads up to my GF friends: just because it has a GF symbol on the menu does not mean the sides it is supposed to come with are gluten free. I almost missed that my soup came with a quesadilla which would not have been GF. I replaced it with what ended up to be a tiny portion of rice instead.
It may have been worth it if the food was decent. The nachos consisted of melted cheese on a top layer of a chip pile. My kids did not enjoy their chicken nuggets which I doubt were seasoned. I ordered the tortilla soup which was basically water, chicken broth, rubbery spiceless chicken chunks, cheese stuck to the bottom of the bowl, and a small spoonful of veggies. It had two thin slices of avocado. I’m pretty sure the tortilla slices were the gluten problem and likely were not actually fried separately. I walked away somehow hungrier than when I sat down to eat. I could have cooked this myself at home and it would have cost me a couple dollars tops to feed it to my whole family. I get that prices are inflated, but potatoes are still cheap and they could have managed to add a few more fries per plate. Rice is also still fairly low in cost. They could at least boost the carbs so we leave feeling full like most restaurants are doing. Adding some black beans to the soup and some thicker broth would also be a good idea.
The service was also not great. I feel bad for the waitress because they were clearly understaffed. I’m not sure if this is the reason she continually forgot to bring out the majority of ordered items. I do believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt though. If she is new or if there are management issues, hopefully this will improve soon.
If they fix any one issue after reading this review I hope it is the gluten issue. Someone could die and they need to get it together before this happens. Their carelessness will lead to months of discomfort for me. They need to take...
Read moreThis happened 2 days ago. I waited this long so I wouldn't write an emotional review because I was so upset. We came to Cafe Sabor at appx. 3:00. We were seated promptly and given our menus, as it wasn't busy. 2 patio tables with people, 1 couple inside, and our party of 9. We were expecting a wait to get our food because we were a larger group & went in with that attitude. But what we experience, there is NO excuse for. 20 minutes to see a server. Someone from our party had to go ask if they could help them and just take water to our table. He was assured, that someone would be right with us. Several minutes later, our server came out with an attitude as if she couldn't be bothered. We had been waiting so long, that I had to ask for more salsa for our meal. SHE! ROLLED! HER! EYES! AT! ME! Determined not to let it ruin our time with friends, we let it go. We didn't wait for our meal as long as it took to take our order. But when it did come. COLD AND UNDERCOOKED HAMBURGER for one person, another ordered a gluten free option (clearly marked GF on the menu and we stated it was for allergy, not preferers) but when her fries came, they were the battered waffle fries. We asked again - these are GF? Another waitress that brought our food stated yes. And the "lettuce" wraps I got were 3 giant romaine lettuce leaves, not trimmed, old and wilted. Half way through our meal, our GF guest got sick and has been sick for 2 days. When we left the restaurant, she sent a text to the number listed at the restaurant to ask about her GF item. Guess what? She was not served the correct item & was supposed to be asked before a substitution was made in the kitchen. We waited and waited and waited for our check before we went to ask to pay, as 2 other tables were seated, ate and left by this point. To my surprise, our "server" was just talking in the back to an co-worker. That's when I decided I needed to send this review. If they were overwhelmed, I could overlook sending a bad review - I HATE doing this. But this place is not worth a second chance and people with gluten allergy need...
Read moreWe have always loved coming to cafe sabor when we come to bear lake, it’s been somewhat of a tradition and my wife used to work in the Logan location years ago and has always had good things to say. That brings us to tonight’s experience. We arrived and were told it would be a 45 min wait. After waiting 45 min we returned and asked where we were on the list. We were informed that some call ahead guest arrived and pushed us back and additional 45-1 hour... we stated that we wouldn’t be able to wait any longer. The hostess then approached us and found us an outdoor table. We were seated and chips and salsa was brought out. We waited and waited for a server to arrive. Actually went through 2 rounds of chips and salsa before my wife finally asked if we had a server. Apparently no one was assigned to us. We waited about 20-30 min before even being asked for drinks. We finally put in our order and while waiting, guests next to us left and their table was being cleaned. There was a basket of chips on that table and no joke, our server grabbed the basket from their table and placed it on ours. I was so shocked that I didn’t say a word and just say there looking at my wife, thinking did he really just serve us another guests chips?? So finally our order came after another really long wait, was served and the server left. Oh wait, we were never given silverware lol. So we ask the hostess for silverware. She says she will tell our server. We wait and still no silverware as we are sitting with our food in front of us. Finally we flag down a different server and he gets us silverware. Food was ok, has been better in the past. Bad experience this time and not sure we will continue...
