Really awkward experience I don’t even know what to make of it to be honest so I was using the laundromat which is a few doors over and I’ve been in the area for a while now thinking about when I’m gonna get this place to try so I walk in today and I’m just standing there looking at the menu looking at the meats that are grilling and the girl at the counter says Can I help you and I ask her what is so and so it’s the first item in the on the menu on the board up on the wall and she said oh it’s french fries with meat on top with salad on top and I said oh OK what’s the rice and she says just plain rice I said plain rice she said yeah just plain rice I said oh OK And she says have you ordered here before and I said no this is my first time , she says oh let me give you a sample and I said OK but if you’re gonna give me a sample, you’re gonna give an extra one for my baby girl. I share all of my food with her and when I go back to the car, she’s gonna smell it on my breath ha ha ha and she’s gonna be like what are you eating? Where did you go And I started laughing. I was obviously talking about my dog so she gave me a blank, dumbfounded stare and I said no I’m talking about my dog. We eat everything together and I’m saying that if I go back to the car and I eat the sample you gave me here she’s gonna smell it on my breath and she’s gonna be like what did you eat mama where did you go? Where’s my piece ha ha ha again I laughed again. She gave me that blank stare and she said hold on. I have to go and ask The owner and I said wait what you don’t have to ask the owner. I just OK she took off as fast as I could she took off so quickly she didn’t hear me or she was so dead set on going to the owner. I don’t know what she said to the owner, but this kid comes out you know kind of weird look on his face and really rudely he’s like we serve food for people not animals and I said no she was talking to me about giving me a sample and I jokingly said to her that oh if you’re gonna give me a sample then you have to give me another piece for my dog that’s in the car that’s gonna smell and before I could finish it he went to the chicken Shawarma and took literally two tiny tiny tiny pieces and it went onto a toothpick and gave it to me and said OK bye-bye now and turned around and stormed off before I could say anything or even not to take the piece that he handed me so I kind of stood there. I was dumbfounded at this point I wasn’t really sure what was going on so he stopped look back at me and said can I help you with anything else and I really rude and aggressive way And I kind of giggled then I was said no I was trying to tell you that and before anything could come out of my mouth, he stoned off again what an awkward and frankly sad encounter that I experienced from some miscommunication, but what more disappointing is that I don’t know I guess This this kids was so upset about a piece of meat that didn’t even pan the size of my thumb and rudely expressed his discussed and left such a bad taste in my mouth personally that now I will never step foot into such a petty and aggressive...
Read moreListen, I've had my fair share of shawarma. Some good, some...well, let's just say my stomach has stories. But Borjstar in Gardena? Man, they're playing a whole different game.
First off, you know when you walk into a place and you just feel the good vibes? That's Borjstar. The staff? They're genuinely kind, like you're catching up with old friends, not just ordering lunch. And that makes a huge difference.
Now, let's talk about the shawarma. I tried both the beef and the chicken, because, you know, research. And honestly? I'm torn. They're both that good. The beef is rich and flavorful, melts in your mouth kind of good. The chicken? Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and just...comforting. You can tell they care about the quality of their meat.
Whether you go for the plate or the wrap, you're in for a treat. The plates are loaded with all the good stuff – fluffy rice, fresh salad, creamy sauces, and of course, that incredible shawarma. And the wraps? Forget about it. Perfectly wrapped, packed with flavor, and just the right amount of everything.
But here's the thing that really stuck with me: it wasn't just the food, it was the whole experience. You can taste the passion in every bite. It's like they're sharing a little piece of their culture with you, and it's delicious.
Look, I'm not a food critic, I'm just a person who loves good food. And Borjstar Shawarma Shop? They're serving up something special. If you're in Gardena, do yourself a favor and stop by. You won't regret it. You'll leave with a full stomach, a smile on your face, and maybe even a new favorite spot. Seriously, go....
Read moreGreat Syrian style shawarma restaurant in Gardena.
Located behind the Starbucks on a corner plaza. Plenty of free self parking.
Restaurant is clean with plenty of indoor booth style seating.
As you walk in , you'll see the beef and chicken shawarma as well as the rotisserie chicken being made in front of you. It will make you salivate. Although that causes the area in front of the counter to be a bit warm.
The staff is super warm friendly and candid.
They answered my questions regarding the menu and quickly took our order. Everything is freshly prepped to order. It's not fast food.
The chicken shawarma plate is juicy and super yummy. I requested rice as an option which was very delicious. It also came to a side of hummus and pickles. They also give you a side of garlic sauce and Syrian style hot sauce.
The beef shawarma is also very juicy and flavorful. I requested seasoned french fries as an option. It also came to a side of hummus and pickles. They also give you a side of garlic sauce and Syrian style hot sauce.
Both dishes are excellent. Personally, I enjoyed the chicken shawarma and the rice more than the beef shawarma and french fries.
They offer lots of other options such as kebbeh, rotisserie chicken, falafel, and many more items. I will return to try the other menu options soon.
Great hidden gem for shawarma especially Syrian style which uses much thinner bread instead of pita bread also they grill the shawarma and cut it into rolls compared to the traditional shawarma style you find at...
