It was okay. We have what we call saganos in Flint and it is definitely no saganos. The soup was basically watery broth like it had barely any flavor and there were no noodles or anything in it. It had a few mushrooms in it and had some rotten shriveled up onions in the bottom of it which was not very tasty
The food itself was okay again, not as great. I will say the steaks were bigger than the steaks we have here at sagano they're about double the size so that's good One thing I will say if you don't want rice and you want noodles you have to specify and pay extra. We did not know that we were not told that so did not know that there was an option for noodles and not rice
I was aggravated pretty bad. I was sitting at a table and the chef wanted to do a sake spray into my mouth and sprayed my entire face and shirt with this stuff because you wouldn't stop spraying when I told him to stop I was wearing a very expensive, very nice shirt and this guy sprayed it all over the place with sugar water basically and laughed about it and I'm sitting there pissed off. I use a walker to get around. I had to get up, get my walker and Ended up having to go to the bathroom and basically give myself a bath and the sink. because I was sticky and covered and whatever this liquid was it was not sake. I know that it was like simple syrup
He also shoved the bottle into my wife's face multiple times when she said no. Trying to make her do it too and she did not want to
I told the chef at least three times with my hands to stop spraying that liquid and he did not stop
Our waitress was also Very forgetful and she just did not know what was going on. I don't know what was her deal but it took forever to get our drinks. She kept stumbling over herself and forgetting stuff. When I asked for extra ginger sauce at the end of the meal she brought extra yum yum sauce instead She acted very twitchy and very high strung
But we also had a couple drinks made and I had an old fashioned that was nowhere near an old fashioned. It was basically and really watered down whiskey with some orange peels thrown in it. It wasn't even brown. It was orange and clear again.
Very very watered down whiskey and whoever made it did not mix any kind of cherry or cherry juice or anything in with it. So it was just nasty for $11 I was not happy
My wife got a mojito and it was 99% soda water and when she finally got down to the very bottom of the glass she found some liquor. She said again for $11 I'm not very happy
That picture is of what was supposed to be an old fashioned and again it was...

Was visiting Traverse City, a little bit of a drive from the hotel but worth it.
Initial Impression the hostess/person who seated us was not super friendly, maybe a language barrier not sure.
Place is a bit messy, some what of a disarray, also but maybe that's usual for these types of places. (not a big deal, just don't expect a 5 star restaurant)
We ordered the Hibachi, the Hibachi chef was great and did a wonderful job (just like any other Hibachi place), he kept it entertaining.
We ordered the: Fuji Dinner (1): $65.00 Filet Mignon/Scallops (1): $38.00
I do not eat Hibachi enough to give a value recommendation, so take these numbers with a grain of salt: I would probably recommend the Fuji dinner should have been $50 and the Filet Mignon/Scallops is accurately priced at $38. (Just my opinion, I could be wrong (these numbers are taking into consideration the skills of the Hibachi chef, the quantity and quality of the food and make a decision upon value for money).
Note: In Hibachi each item is for one person eating.
The Hibachi side has a heavy concentration on fried rice so when the rest of the food is put together it kind of all blends together for me. I think any item you order on the hibachi side is going to be great, as they all come with soup and salad as well.
Next time I'll just pick items at random as I don't think I could go wrong, this time around I ordered the Fuji Dinner as it has some of every item they offered.
I like the communal aspect of Hibachi as we were able to strike up a conversation with the other people seated next to us at the Hibachi table and we were able to trade a few stories and recommendations.
Gratuity: I'm a strong believer in giving appreciation for great work done, and as the Hibachi chef did a great job we tipped over the customary 20%. Always remember to tip the people who work so hard.
Conclusion: Nice place, when we are back in Traverse City and if we are in the mood for Japanese we won't hesitate...
Read moreThe chef and food experience was amazing! This was our first hibachi experience. Unfortunately despite a very undesirable encounter we will not return and will be sure to inform others not to make the trip (we drove over an hour). Our bill for 2 people was about $100, we tipped the chef over 20%. I've waitressed before and know how it works splitting tips with hosts, etc. We were chased down in the parking lot upon leaving, by the (host?) And accused of not paying him separately because we only tipped the chef, reamed us because we "didn't pay them enough" since the chef has to split his tips. Not our problem! We paid a substantial tip and it gets split how the ownership delegates it. This was the most absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable experience we have EVER had with service. My husband was nice enough to hand him a tip in the parking lot despite his abhorrent behavior since he was obviously so upset and hurting for money, yet he still just shook his head at us and ran off with the money! Entitled and ungrateful. Before he walked off he also made a comment about the other people we sat with that they didn't "pay enough either!" As if we should pay him for them too! This was tonight (Sunday Feb 19th). This was a late valentine's date which ended very poorly thanks to your unprofessional staff. Take note Fuji- shaking down customers in the parking lot isn't...
