Disappointing Experience at Burger Island - Avoid This Location
This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a negative review about Burger Island, a chain that has usually provided a reliable dining experience. Unfortunately, this particular location failed on several levels, and I want to be transparent in sharing my experience.
When we entered, the restaurant appeared clean, much like any other Burger Island. However, I opted to avoid the bathrooms based on previous negative reviews. Still, I was hoping to see if the restaurant had made any improvements, but sadly, it hasn’t.
We decided to switch up our dining routine and grab burgers. I’ve always had good experiences with Burger Island in the past, but this visit was far from that. Upon ordering, I asked the hostess for any recommendations, only to be rudely told to just look at the menu—no promotions or suggestions were offered. We placed our order: a double avocado burger, a double chili cheese burger, and an additional chili with tater tots. After completing the order, I was informed that avocado was unavailable and was offered guacamole as a substitute, which I accepted.
During the wait, I noticed the hostess looking visibly annoyed while holding my food in hand, waiting for me to collect it. This was a poor reflection of customer service, especially compared to other Burger Island locations. I understand that this is a family-owned and franchise-driven establishment, but the tolerance for such behavior is concerning.
When I got home, the disappointment continued. My “double” avocado burger was missing a patty, leaving me with just one overcooked, dry patty. The guacamole substitute was a tiny smear at the bottom of the burger, completely insufficient. For the price, this was unacceptable. The double chili cheese burger fared slightly better in that it had both patties, but they were also dry and overcooked, with burnt edges. The buns were of such poor quality that even a McDonald’s burger would be a step up. As for the chili and tater tots, they were simply not worth mentioning.
In total, I spent $55 on this meal, which I deeply regret. The only redeeming feature was the free refillable fountain drink station, which hardly justifies the cost or the experience.
After realizing the issues with our order, I called the restaurant to give feedback. Unfortunately, the same annoyed hostess answered the phone. Initially, she assumed I was calling to place another order and then claimed I must have called for pick-up when I clarified I had taken my order to-go. When I explained the problems, she denied that any mistakes could have occurred, offering no apology and merely stating I could drive back if I wanted to resolve the issue.
In summary, this location is not recommended. It provides a poor representation of what Burger Island should be. If you’re craving a good burger in Garland, I suggest heading a little further to Burger House, where the food quality is better, and the prices are lower. This Burger Island location needs major improvements to match the standards the brand...
Read moreI gave it a one star but I’m extremely disappointed. I went there about a week ago Friday afternoon . Upon arriving there was a black couple eating their food . It seem like they just ordered. I order my food and sat down waiting for my order to be ready. While waiting the cashier lady came out with an empty plate and asks the couple to plate their food .( they had ordered their food to go and I guess they changed their mind and decided to eat it in. The restaurant, so they were eating out of their to go boxes ) the cashier , which I can only assume is the owner. Kept on reaching out for the to go box while the lady was eating her food. The customer asked the cashier what was the problem , and she proceeded to explain that if you order to go you cannot eat it inside the restaurant in To Go boxes. Keep In mind that the restaurant was empty only 3 tables ( including mine) at 7:00 pm . I believe that is understandable if the restaurant was full and the approach should be different, instead of of reaching for the plate while a paying customer is eating. The incident escalated to screaming cursing and ultimately the customer asking for her money back and the couple leaving , not before the cook ( I can assume he owns it too)and the cashier( owner) cursing back at the customers they just lost. I hate to say this but to me it seemed that it was an exaggeration from the “owners” and it was elevated because the customer was black. They could respond to this and say what they want but it was definitely a discrimination incident with that couple. Needless to say to say I won’t be going back , I won’t recommend it to anyone. In a time when people need to be able to comprehend and be able to communicate, tolerance is imperative, yet incidents like this happen....
Read moreKids and wife wanted some burgers for dinner so we made it happen and where there exactly 42 min before closing , unfortunately as soon as we arrived we got greeted by a grouchy lady who claims to be the owner and automatically before even crossing a word with her she said WE CLOSE AT 9! We Got our food around 8:40 with 20 min left to eat and decided to just eat our fresh meal there and make it quick .We ourselves are business owners and understand time is valuable and all we want is get home after a long day but come on , to have the audacity to come tell me i have 5 min to leave and come right back after 1 minute raising your voice and having your husband/cook come hold you back of how mad you are because i am in your restaurant 3-4 minutes before closing and to make it better all in front of my kids ! Thats pathetic and does not reflect a good owner Or good customer service what so ever LAST TIME WE EAT HERE after coming here since my childhood !
