Update 3: The red salsa is back. Hurry up and get it. However, the half kilo of barbacoa feels lighter and lighter. Can't have the good without the bad I guess. YMMV. They rarely answer the phone to call in your order and it gets so packed in there it can take a while to get your food. It's a testament to the barbacoa that it's worth the hassle.
Update 2: this place has grown like crazy! The barbacoa is still pretty solid but they killed the red salsa. Just tore our hearts out like that. Now it's some ghastly guajillo atrocity that perfectly encapsulates the color and taste of hopelessness. My disappointment is immeasurable and my barbacoa is ruined. I think it was Robert Frost who warned that nothing gold can stay. He's right. And a barbacoa without a proper salsa is just sadness in a crumbling tortilla. I might as well go eat at Cuquitas. Two stars for the barbacoa though and all my love for that now gone salsa.
La barbacoa y el menudo are the main attractions for us. The tortillas aren't too bad if you feel adventurous and their salsas are good, even when out of the fridge. Bring cash and plenty of it because they're not cheap. Also, go early before people get out of church.
Update *The menudo seems to have lost its charm which is terribly sad. Now it's bland, a smaller serving and relatively expensive. The tortillas seem to have changed as well, they're now smaller and are falling apart more often. That is the general direction of tortilla everywhere though. Salsas are still amazing. I'm told I'm insane but I'm sure these ferment! Longer I keep them the spicier they get. I was forever Team Salsa Verde but their red salsa has made a believer out of me. Sure it costs me half my face every time but Ima do it again after the feeling goes away.
5 stars for the barbacoa and salsas, they...
Read moreThe food here is delicious! I travel to Mexico a few times a year, and I love authentic Mexican food, and this place serves it. I like the barbacoa, but pancita enchilada is my favorite 😋 without to mention the tortillas are handmade. The owner is really nice, very talkative and is always giving great service to customers. I have only gone on Sundays, and it is always extremely busy which is a good sign. I can point out that the wait is long, the place is small, it is pretty crowded, the waitresses are nice but need to smile more and interact with the customers and unfortunately they only take cash. But if I can wait over an hour for a seat in Olive Garden I don’t mind waiting 25 minutes for a table here. And I justify the fact the wait because they are busy and the place is small. I’ve been at other restaurants that they have me wait and I notice a lot of empty tables which doesn’t make sense to me. As far as for the cash issue, all peaple have to do is stop by to an ATM. But overall I love this place because the food, people, and environment make me feel like if I were back in...
Read moreFirst time coming to eat here, the food was good, homemade tortillas! Our waitress was responsible took our order brought it but seem bothered every time we would ask her something. I had small kids with us and asked if they could have the breakfast chorizo with eggs and the waitress said no because the cook was tired and didn't want to cook!😮😐 I was like what?!? But someone else that was with us order chorizo and eggs and they got theirs!🙄 I don't recommend to eat here, it would be better to just order it and take it home. Oh take cash to pay, although they dont have a sign, I looked for one, they only accept cash that's what the waitress said. My husband had to leave to get cash. Although the food is good, we'll probably not come back anytime soon....
