We had the opportunity for a last-minute date night and our first choice for dinner had too long of a wait, so we walked nearby to Patten House. I have eaten here before and have always thought that it was too pricey for the food offered and depending where you sit it can be too noisy for conversation but usually the service has been pretty good. We thought we would give it another chance only to be disappointed and the service was also not great. My husband got the ‘Special’ slow cooked beef tenderloin topped with crab and sold to us like a surf and turf. My husband had his mind set on the pork chop, but the seafood and steak captured his attention. When it was delivered, we both couldn’t wait to have a taste only to be completely overwhelmed by an extremely potent shallot mixed into the shredded small amount of crab and too much sauce. The one bite literally ruined both of our dinners because we could not get past the intense shallot on our pallet. My entire work history has been either in the restaurant industry or in customer service. I hate to complaint and so does my husband, but it was uneatable. So instead the waitress decided to bring him a replacement piece of meat that was amazing and a side of sauce, no crab but then still charged us for the outrageous $52 special when they weren’t even able to replace the meal with what the Special Surf and Turf was supposed to be. I then again had to mention, that I don’t feel it is fair to pay for a special that we did not receive. She took it to the manager, and they took a whopping $5 off and the manager never came by and the waitress kept making excuses about the shallot. ??? What kind of service is this? I don’t mind paying for an expensive meal, but it must be at minimum good, and issues need to be addressed appropriately. My crab cakes were just okay. Wish I had better things to say about but there are many other better options in Geneva. I won't be going back to...
Read moreVery rarely do I feel the need to let a business know how poor my experience was. Sadly, this evening indeed constitutes one of those times. My husband and I called ahead and asked for a table for two- that was easy and quick no problem. When we arrived, we came 10 minutes early so we sat at the bar and got a drink, again no problem. The catastrophe started when we were seated... We brought our half empty drink from the bar over, and ordered an appetizer since my husband had never eaten at the Patten House. We were prepared to drop $120 for a meal for the two of us. We told the waitress when she comes back with the appetizer that we would order our meal. We got our appetizer 10 minutes after we ordered, and after we were given the wrong "small plate"- again we're easygoing so we didn't mind... But then, we noticed that our waitress had gone to the table next to us three times since our appetizer was delivered (by a buss boy not our waitress)- and we started to become impatient... I decided to time how long it would take someone to simply ask about our beverages, let alone get our meal ordered... In total we waited 35 minutes before I got up and left, mind you we never were attended to again. I could have walked out without paying for our appetizer, but I chose to hand the hostess a $20 on our way out, covering our small plate and tipping our waitress almost 100%... Because clearly this establishment and our waitress needed the money more than us. I work in the service industry and could never imagine servicing a guest like this. I am almost ashamed to wonder if part of the reason we had such poor service is because we are a homosexual couple. Is Geneva that behind? We wanted a fun date, and unfortunately left hungry and dissatisfied with a very bad taste in my mouth from The...
Read moreGreat place for a real nice dinner! My wife and I tried the Patten House for Dinner and we were not disappointed. The old Patten House that the restaurant is in is really picturesque and sets the mood. While the weather during or visit didn't allow us to enjoy the patio and wrap around deck it did look very nice. The interior was a mix of old and new and was had a very relax but refined feel to it, perfect place for my wife and I to enjoy a night out without the kids. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We started with the crab cakes which were very good and came with two crab cakes. Our entrees came with choice of soup or salad and some tasty biscuits with honey butter. I got the Gumbo which was fantastic and my wife got the corn chowder which was also very good. For our entrees I got the grouper which was blackened and came on a bed of avocado mashed potatoes, it was excellent. My wife got the stuffed chicken which came with a side of kale that was cooked similar to creamed spinach and some fingerling potatoes. The chicken was really good but the kale was amazing, usually kale is something you eat but don't really enjoy in my experience but this was really really good. The portions were generous and the food was great! As far as price goes be prepared to pay $25-35 per main dish, but they did have a variety of sandwiches which were in the teens if you wanted something a little less expensive. Defiantly checkout the...
