BEWARE of hidden CC fees.
I wanted to love this place. Really. Great concept⦠a place where everyone (people with varying likes/dislikes) can find something to order on the menu. And while I did think it was OK, I have some concerns.
The service was very friendly, but not very efficient even on the basics. We had to ask for refills on water and hot tea, and out of just 4 items ordered (two from sushi counter and 2 from kitchen) we had to send two back to be corrected (one to sushi chef, one to kitchen). Weird. I canāt remember the last time Iāve had to send food back at any restaurant. But these two items were not even made to the specifications on their own menu.
My biggest concern is that the check includes a credit card fee. We paid cash but realized later that we overpaid because the credit card fee was added in before tax and everything. This just seems very sneaky and dishonest. Why not just say, āIf you pay by credit card, a fee will be addedā rather than adding it in before presenting the check. (From my vantage point at the sushi counter, I saw that there is an ATM machine on site, so that makes it easier for anyone who doesnāt come prepared with cash, but who might want to avoid the credit card fee if they notice it, to do so.) I understand that accepting credit cards costs businesses a percentage of sales, but I assume at a restaurant, they are taking those fees into consideration when pricing their items. BASH isnāt cheap. For instance, we paid $10 for a California Roll. It was good, but not great, and though it had 8 pieces, they werenāt big pieces by any means. Knowing we were paying a lot for mediocre food is one reason that credit card fee seemed really offensive. And although our fee was less than $3, imagine how high it could go if it were our whole family going to dinner rather than just my husband and me. Itās the principle!
I was very impressed that there were at least three Japanese sushi chefs overseeing the sushi bar. (I know they were Japanese because I able to speak Japanese to them when sending a sushi item back that was missing ingredients.) To be honest, with a name like Burger and Sushi House, I wasnāt sure the level of sushi to expect. But, itās the real thing!
So if you go, enjoy! But just beware. Look closely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAMENDED -1 star: When the kids went down to decorate for homecoming this year, even though the restaurant told them it was okay to decorate their windows (which we've done for decades), they turned the kids away that morning. An appeal to the manager did nothing - they changed their minds and made the kids pack up and leave.
Overall, I would go again, but I wouldn't order the burgers. They were thinner and tougher than I expected. Cooked medium, which was great, but the meat was much tougher than I expected for a medium-done patty, almost like it was either frozen or a really lean grind, neither of which should happen when the name of your restaurant has burger in the title. Between the burgers we ordered, one was undercooked and had to be remade, which they graciously took off our check, but for a burger that thin to be undercooked, I'm leaning towards frozen patties, which would be really surprising.
The sushi was good and the mocktails were fun for the kids. Shishito peppers were excellent with nice char and salt. The crispy rice tuna had five pieces and two were really nice with a crisp exterior and chewy interior while three were over-fried and crunchy all the way through. I also wish that the tuna mix on top was more like a tuna tartare because it didn't have a lot of tuna flavor and was more like a paste rather than a dressed, diced tuna - I wouldn't order it again.
Ultimately, I will go back to try more of their sushi, and I may try a burger again if they can explain why the burgers weren't very juicy and that was a limited issue, because the toppings and flavor combinations were quite nice. I think they also need to up their bar menu - was a bit limited. Their bar area is HUGE with something like 30 seats, but there aren't many bottles behind the bar, so the selection is rather limited (e.g. only two tequilas). Also, note that it's a la carte, as nothing includes a side (e.g. no fries with a burger).
Total was $150 for three adults and two kids. Definitely a special-occasion...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePretty terrible. Service was not good at all and food was just meh. We went during the week and it was only 3 other tables, waited 45 mins just for drinks. Waitress would leave and disappear for long periods of time somewhere in the back (i really wish i got her name because she should not be a server, yes it was that terrible). The rest of the staff was behind the bar chatting the whole time. They never answer the phone and as an experiment we called the resturant while we were at our table. Someone picked up and hung up like we experienced while trying to make our reservations. While ordering my food I told them I wanted the bash sauce on the side and wanted spicy mayo on my burger instead. Waitress claimed that this sauce was spicy mayo, I can attest this is not the case. Bash sauce is essentially like a sweet and sour / BBQ sauce, both of which I hate, and my burger was ruined because they drenched it in this sauce. My sister ordered the loaded Mac and found a curly hair in her food which really killed the mood. We let the waitress know and she offered to bring a new dish but did not even bat an eye like this happens all the time. No manager or anyone came out to address this at any point during our meal.....super tacky.
The one and only good thing about this place was the tuna tower it was really good.
However don't let the Waitress talk you into chips which come in a pack of 6 and are $1 a chip. Also don't run out, because they will bring you another order after it's gone and still charge you for them because everything you ask for takes 30 mins to recieve. To ad insult to injury after this terrible experience they add 20% gratuity to the bill š. I get large parties usually have gratuity added but 20% is over the industry standard and maybe this is why your waitstaff sucks? They are guaranteed a larger tip, they do not deserve. My party of 11's bill was $629.00 major slap in the face. I'd never go back. Save yourself the time and money and go to any other sushi house or...
