Where’s the best farm to table restaurant in Kentucky? Is it local feed in Georgetown Ky? #foodie #yumyum #chickenandwaffles #farmtotable #kentucky

This week Food Fun Adventure Saturday took us to Local Feed in Georgetown, KY. They are a farm to table joint, sourcing ingredients locally. I tried an Elijah Craig Old Fashioned. The drink was hard to finish. The licorice smell & flavor from the bitters was overpowering. We started with Meatballs, Brussels Sprouts and Crispy Polenta. The Brussels had a good taste with a tangy mustard sauce and a poached egg that added a creaminess to the sauce. The bacon was peppery. The Meatballs had a crisp outer crust, though slightly dry, the spicy marinara sauce and red pepper flavor cut through it making for a tasty bite. The polenta came with bleu cheese crumbles. The bleu cheese was great and the fry on the polenta was nice and crunchy. My second drink was a KY Mule, refreshing, but light on Buffalo Trace and heavy on ginger beer. I ordered the Wagyu Pot Roast. This was an excellent dish, it was well seasoned and very tender. The carrots had a good crunch and were well cooked. The potatoes were a little thin, I like them stiffer. The gravy had a good beefy taste. My only knock is that the dish was swimming in gravy. My fiancé tried the Catfish. It was light, flaky and fried really well. It was served with a lemon sauce that was different but nice. The Cole slaw was sweet, but the cabbage was very finely chopped and just did not offer a good chew to it. The hush puppy was bland and dense. It was not enjoyed by anyone at our table. One of our guests tried the Catfish Po Boy. The catfish needed a little longer in the fryer for me, but the hot sauce was good with subtle heat. I was told the bun was great, and the lemony tartar sauce worked well with the homemade pickles and hot sauce. The Steak Fries with ketchup were excellent, and I would go back just to eat those. Local Feed was a pretty good food experience. We enjoyed ourselves and liked the food. The restaurant was very hot and stuffy. Not sure if there was an air conditioning issue or that is the norm, but it took away from the experience overall. The service was great and everything arrived hot and fresh. The Fat Man says Local Feed is Fat Man Approved.

Perhaps it was an off day given all the positive reviews but we had a poor experience here. From the not even trying to be passive aggressive host to the slow service and bland food nothing stood out but the stomach aches afterwards. We were a larger group without a reservation as this was an impulse visit. We checked with the host and offered that we would be happy to go somewhere else if they couldn't accommodate. He said fine. While seating us though he lectured the whole group that parties of six or more really should call ahead and he really hopes we remember to do that next time (there were 7 of us) if it's a problem seating people then tell them so. Don't do it and then lecture about how we violated restaurant protocol we knew we were asking for a favor. On to the meal, the chicken and dumplings are not what you are thinking if you are from the South. This is not cracker barrel or a meat and 3. This is soup with chicken and some dough balls. Sadly the chicken had no flavor nor did the dumplings even after drowning them in salt and pepper. The broth was oily. I think they cook whole chicken with skin in creating a slick oil soup that will make your mouth feel like it was coated in vegetable oil. Two people in our group ordered and found it to be very bad in one case they just couldnt stomach it at all. I made an effort at mine and felt pretty bad for the rest of the day. Our medium rare steak was rare to the point of blue with a cold center. We would have sent it back for a quick refire but our server was absent and the food itself had taken over 40 minutes to arrive. The meatballs were delightful though as were the devilled eggs. Mentioning service it was terrible. When he did check on us one person would speak up and he'd be off leaving people with empty glasses. Overall just really poor experience. we saw some other folks leave without ordering so again maybe a shorthanded day but no one explained anything, checked on us or showed any care that a crummy meal took nearly 2 hrs involved a rude host an absent server and a slow kitchen.

To preface: We had 0 issue with the wait time due to being short staffed. The few staff we managed to talk to were nice. This was not their fault, and we understand things are hectic right now and are not holding that against them.

However, this was our first time trying to order Local Feed. We've never eaten there before, it was a special occasion (birthday) so we figured we would support local. We've heard nothing but good things about the food, after all.

Unfortunately, we were met with by far one of the most unprofessional management situations I have ever run into. I am patient - I have been in customer service for 9 years, and I understand things take time and I get that. I also know things can, and do, go wrong.

We placed an order online for curbside pickup - arrived even a few minutes late after we were directed to be there, and called. We called 4 times and did not get an answer (again, short staffed, we understood). We had to then move forward and flag down a waitress who apologized and went to check on our order and came back about ten minutes later to say our food is being boxed up as the kitchen was behind. We called 4 more times while she was inside because we knew she had tables to tend to and understood if she got caught up handling them. It's 30 minutes past our pickup window, and almost 2 hours since we placed our order, but we understand and waited. Then another member of staff comes out to ask if we were waiting on the curbside order and goes on to tell us that they never received it in the first place. They say they've been having issues with their ordering system for a few days now and then offer a refund and says the owner is going to mail us a $75 gift card because they couldn't even get to our order by that point.

Typically, this would be fine. However, after calling 8 times (never getting an answer) and a nearly 2 hour wait from the time we placed an order which should not have been allowed in the first place if the system is not working, only to be told initially that our food is ready and being boxed up and then to discover this was a complete lie (and not the fault of the waitress I am sure, we appreciated her help) was absolutely insulting.

If a system is non functional it should not be accessible to patrons to use. There was 0 accessible communication at all, as well. There was no good reason for us to have waited thst long for us to be told they never received our order in the first place.

Its unfortunate because we did want to try their food. I've heard it's great, but this experience was horrendous and they will sadly not be getting my business at all. I don't have confidence in endorsing a restaurant for anything when the management and service is so poor. The wait staff deserve praise, they were very kind, but thats the only good...

I've given this place so many chances because of the atmosphere and it's local, but I'm done. I'll just tell you what happened last night and let the past occasions go. When I picked my to go order last night it was $4 more because of a card fee that I wasn't informed of on the phone. I asked if the ice cream was the correct portion because it seemed like such a small portion. The young boy happened to come around to the front that was cooking and he looked at me and gave me a smart answer of "that's all you get". I said that I just paid $80 for a meal and I thought you'd get more, but maybe I should pay for more ice cream. He rolled his eyes and walked off. This really started to make me mad. I asked to speak to the manager and the Bar Manager was nice and gave us more which wasn't necessary. While going and getting more, the young man was mocking me the entire time behind the wall but I could hear him. Justin, the owner, came to see me after I requested. He looked at me stone faced when I told him this. He didn’t say he was sorry that an employee would do this but looked at me and said enjoy your ice cream like I should be happy. The issue wasn’t the dessert, it was the customer service and treatment at his restaurant including him.

I've now had take out of their beef stroganoff twice. I stressed on the phone to check and please leave the mushrooms out. I get home and they were put in the dinner so we couldn't eat it. I usually love the brussel sprouts, but they were undercooked. I called back and the manager said he didn't have time to listen, but would do something the next day and acted like I was bothering him. My meal was comped for $15 that was incorrect, but we didn’t get to enjoy anything as that was the main dish. My point in the end is that the Owner let his employee blatantly disrespect his customer and didn’t care.

My daughter was in from another state, and we enjoy eating at this place, but will have to find another restaurant because the customer service and disrespect was that bad. I can't recommend here anymore, and haven’t experienced this at any other...
