I have been searching for a good Japanese steakhouse for some time. I've been to multiple around the area. I saw a billboard for Koji one night and I just knew I had to come. Pricing is a bit steep, but the portions make up for it. I ordered the emperor dinner which includes soup, salad, two pieces of shrimp, noodles, vegetables, and rice. I got it with filet mignon and chicken and it was cooked to perfection. I could not finish all of my food because of how much there was, but I am definitely going to be coming back! I think this may have been the best experience I've had at a Japanese steakhouse.

It was a very busy night. Food was plentiful. I ordered hibachi calamari and it was overcooked. It was also very big, I thought I'd get baby calamari, these were steaks. My daughter got kids chicken hibachi.. about the same size plate as an adult. The folks on our table got rare steak. When they started cooking on the VERY hot grill, they turned grey and to give them color they were doused with soy sauce. I'm happy I didn't get the steak. Overall, flavor was good, large portions.. next time I'll do chicken only. It was tasty. This was my first time at this place.

It took a long time for the server to wait on me and it took a long time to get the food. The miss soup and salad with ginger dressing were run of the meal, good but nothing impressive. The entree, shrimp and scallop emperor dish was good. The scallops were tasty, the Shrimp was a little overcook and the rice with yum yum sauce was good as well. They do gave hibachi/grill table seating available but I was not offered one. Looked like a great show for rhe young ones.

Don't waste your time with this place. Mediocre overpriced food, rude wait staff and charges for 'extras' that are ridiculous.

I had previously visited for lunch and thought it was pretty good. So I suggested to my wife, we go there after Christmas shopping at the outlets nearby.

The place was fairly dead. We were seated for Hibachi and ordered some sushi. We ended up being the only 2 at this table. The Sushi, soup and salad were pretty good.

We ordered the special filet and shrimp for two ($45). The cook came out and was a pleasant fellow. He did seem to be rushed preparing our food. The hibachi fried rice, which they charge an extra $2 per plate for, was ok the noodles were greasy and then it gets weird. The guy is cooking our "filet" and throws 2 huge chunks of butter in it.

He puts that on our plates and this is the first time I have ever had slimy, greasy steak. It tasted more like either top round or a very cheap cut of filet. The shrimp were obviously frozen and not fresh as well.

Then It really takes a turn. We get some togo boxes, thinking maybe the dogs would enjoy it, and pay the bill. I get up and start toward the door as my wife is gathering her things at the table. When I turn around a waitress has cornered my wife yelling "money, food" in very broken English. My wife has to dig the receipt out of her purse to show this lady we have paid.

We eat out a lot and this is the first time in over 20 years of eating out all over this country that we have ever been accused of trying to dine and dash.

All toll we spend $80 at this joint for 2 people. I have had much better food and service at the fast food hibachi places for less than half that.

The one that still gets me is a $2 up charge per plate for hibachi fried rice at a...

Updated May 2021. I continue to come to Koji in Commerce just to hope that quality and flavor have improved since I frequent Commerce regularly. Unfortunately, the flavors have not improved and the quality seems about the same which is average at best. I'm a connoisseur of Japanese Hibatchi and have eaten at dozens of Japanese Hibatchi tables across the U.S. and unfortunately most of the time the food isn't worth the price at Koji in my opinion. On my most recent visit the only thing I enjoyed was my 5 or so Shrimp I got with the Koji Special Fried Rice. The Soup had a weird off flavor to it, the rice was bland and almost tasted like it had been sitting a while, there was ZERO egg in my fried rice which how can you call it fried rice without a fried egg in the rice which was ridiculous. The steak was tough and overcooked, the chicken was ok thanks to the flavorful teriyaki sauce on it otherwise my meal overall was just average. I can cook Hibatchi and fried rice better at home on my Blackstone. I have deducted yet another star from my original reviews due to no improvement being seen in the flavor. I will say the service is pretty good and the Hibatchi cooks are ok, but there are one or two of the cooks that use WAY TOO MUCH SOY SAUCE in the rice. Water is fine if you drink water from the tap as well. Past Reviews: Food here is hit or miss. Usually the meat is good and they have good yum yum sauce, but the rice and noodles sometimes seem undercooked or old. They also Upcharge for fried rice which is ridiculous. Why on earth would you go to a Japanese restaurant if not for sushi or fried rice. The dishes are already expensive. To tack on extra for fried rice is just ridiculous. Rice and Eggs are some of the cheapest...

We ended up not staying for our food, due to the service was so bad. We have eaten here many times (lunch and dinner) without issues until tonight, I’m unsure if they are under new management or what, but we will not be back after tonight. We were sat at a table for hibachi fairly quickly, the host was extremely rude, no greeting, just ā€œhow manyā€ and seemed annoyed that we were there. We sat at the table for about 20 minutes before they came to get our drink order, they were clearly waiting for more people to show up to add to our table, which another family did. After about 30 minutes they took our drinks and food order, the other family at our table ordered salmon (which is fine no issues, I’m aware my allergy is not other peoples problem), but unfortunately I’m highly allergic to salmon when being cooked, I asked if it would be okay for them to move us to one of the other several hibachi tables that were open so we could have our food cooked safely while my kids got the full experience, and the other family could enjoy their salmon. I had no issues waiting for a cook or anything, I just wanted my kids to have the experience that we all know they charge a lot for, but we were told no.

Please don’t go here if you have allergies, they are not accommodating. Management didn’t care, basically shamed me for having an allergy, and told me I shouldn’t come to their restaurant. I won’t go again I can assure them of that!. We eat at hibachi regularly for special occasions and I have never had any issues, until coming here tonight. Ultimately I’m glad we didn’t stay, and I am glad that I was not out any money for the experience, just don’t want others to waste their time, especially when trying to feed...
