I wasnt going to do any reviews today on my visit to commerce but theres no way I could let this one slide. My boyfriend & I dined at the Waffle House on 441S. In Commerce before heading home. We sat, our server asked if we needed menus. We said no & ordered what we usually get. Server returned with our food, asked if we were good, we said fine & we ate. After we were done, we got our waffles. My boyfriend always orders peanut butter chips & he always requests "alot" . When the waffle came it had about a teaspoon full of chips, maybe 7 small chips. So he asked for some more. Server came back and sat the cup down a little heavy handed but no worries. We ate, got our check. She came back & changed the check. So when we went to check out i noticed two .50 charges. When we checked out, we asked and our server said she charged us for the "extra" pb chips & she walked off really fast. My boyfriend & I were pretty upset. Not because of the .50 charge but the audacity. The literal audacity.
Let me rewind the scenario for you. Most of these incidents are excusable, but you have to draw the line somewhere... After "Audri" dropped our food off, she never came back to check on us. I got tired of waiting on ketchup (bc our bottle was empty) so i reached behind me to the other table & grabbed another myself. I know they had to see me but no big deal. Our drinks were empty as we patiently waited for refills...I kept looking around as 1 girl was on her phone & the rest, huddled around these two guys. The guys, flirting...one clearly worked there, just not in uniform & he kept meeting my eye every time i looked over for the waitress. He first leaned over to whisper something to one of them & after about 2 more glances, walked behind the counter to quietly say something...atleast 5 more minutes pass. She finally did get our refills and jelly but my toast was cold by then. She didnt bother to add any more ice nor dump out the melted ice that was in the cup either. The server had the most bare minimum attitude but then charged us 2 times for the peanut butter chips. No one asked her to bring an entire cup back but I guess she brought the whole cup back to be a smart butt. She was so attentive to her other tables but treated us like we werent paying customers. Not sure where the miscommunication happened but ANY effort would have been appreciated. We know customer service isnt the same since covid but dang. Atleast ACT like you want your job...Food was great whoever...
Read moreMelissa took our order and was extremely rude and unhappy the minute she approached us. We were placing a to go order. We ordered 2 all star breakfasts and a order of gravy and biscuits. We wanted hashbrowns with our all star meals and was told they could not give us hashbrowns with that meal, so we paid $2.40 a piece for 2 orders of hashbrowns. I looked online and it stated you could have hashbrowns as choice for the all star breakfast so either the website is wrong or she was misinformed. We got home and we didn't have grits or toast. So I called to let them know and they put me on the phone with Melissa, again was nasty, she informed me that because I got hashbrowns I didn't get grits or toast with the all star breakfast. I told her that I should because she made me pay $4.80 for the hashbrowns so to me that's just basically a side order of them and I should get the rest of the breakfast I paid for. The hashbrowns looked like one regular order split into 2 plates. She said well what do you expect me to do for you... I told her again I would like my toast and grits and then she still told me I wasn't supposed to get it but to come on and she would just give it to me. I arrive back to waffle house and she is making rude comments that I can hear as soon as I walk in the door so I know the whole packed out place could hear her. Oh here is that girl that sat at the bar that doesn't know what comes with the all star meal and here are the grits . Then makes a sly remark to the girl that brings them to me as she is laughing the entire time. I asked her for butter and jelly and she said well there is a butter for each of your grits. I wanted more. So I asked for butter for our toast so she hands me one and I have 2 orders of toast and wouldn't give me more. I hated to even have to ask for jelly for the toast but I did and I guess you are only allowed one pack of the same flavor per toast. It was embarrassing and I felt horrible for having to go back. We felt like we should have never even went in there this morning. Melissa really needs to find a job so she doesn't have to deal with people or learn to try and like people. We were nothing but nice to them. There was one lady that was amazing and tried to help us when Melissa wasn't looking. I thank God for her. She made the experience a tad more bearable. You never know what people are going through and you can make or break their day. Be kind to everyone even when they are being...
Read more5/5 Stars: A Quintessential Southern Experience - Waffle House Athens Review
I stopped by the Waffle House location on Broad Street in Athens, GA, and was treated to a quintessential Southern dining experience. As a self-proclaimed breakfast aficionado, I was eager to see if this beloved chain lived up to its reputation.
Ambiance: 5/5
Walking into the Waffle House, I was immediately enveloped in a warm, welcoming atmosphere that's equal parts diner, greasy spoon, and Southern institution. The decor is retro-chic, with a hint of kitsch, and the bustling open kitchen adds to the energy.
Service: 5/5
Our server, a friendly and attentive Athens native, greeted us with a warm smile and a hearty "Hey, y'all!" The service was top-notch, with our coffee cups never empty and our food arriving promptly.
Food: 5/5
The menu at Waffle House is a masterclass in simplicity, with a focus on classic breakfast staples and, of course, their signature waffles. I opted for the All-Star Special, which included a waffle, eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with a subtle sweetness that paired perfectly with the savory eggs and bacon.
Value: 5/5
The prices at Waffle House are ridiculously reasonable, with most meals falling in the $5-$10 range. Considering the generous portion sizes and the quality of the food, it's a steal.
Overall Experience: 5/5
In conclusion, my visit to the Waffle House in Athens, GA, was an unforgettable experience that exceeded my expectations. If you're a fan of breakfast, Southern cuisine, or just good old-fashioned comfort food, Waffle House is a must-visit destination.
Recommendation: Arrive early, as the lines can get long, especially on weekends. Also, don't be afraid to try the scattered, smothered, and covered hashbrowns – they're a...
