Let me be clear this is more than just a food review. This is my first official step into a role I take seriously: giving honest, grounded, and insightful takes on food experiences that help everyday people and restaurant owners alike. With that said, let's talk about Marlow.
Parking & Arrival: The First Hurdle Before I even tasted the food, I ran into a small logistical puzzle. The GPS guided us to a locked gate easy to miss if you're just following directions like a robot. Pro tip: as you're approaching the street, ignore the GPS at the last second and look to your right for an open entrance. It’s subtle, but it’s there.
Also worth noting there didn’t seem to be any obvious security presence in the parking area. So if you’ve got valuables, I wouldn’t leave them sitting in the front seat. During the day? You’re probably fine. But nighttime diners just stay aware.
THE BLACK & BLUE BURGER – $16 The menu made it sound like a knockout: creamy Gorgonzola, applewood bacon, romaine, red onion, Roma tomato, on a sesame brioche bun. The presentation? Beautiful. Like Instagram-ready, no cap.
But the taste? It didn’t quite live up to the hype or the price tag.
The Gorgonzola sauce, which should've been the flavor anchor, got overpowered by what tasted like heavy-handed use of herbs likely thyme, parsley, maybe even rosemary. When paired with Gorgonzola, those can go from “interesting” to “muddy” real quick. I also noticed the fat in the sauce seemed to be separating, leaving a slightly greasy aftertaste and dulling the bold flavor the cheese usually brings.
It’s not a bad burger—it’s just not a $16 burger.
FIRECRACKER SHRIMP – $13.50 Now this was a win. Crispy tempura shrimp with carrots, cilantro, and roasted peanuts—texturally on point, flavors balanced, and it hit the table hot. Is it hard to mess up fried shrimp? Sure. But when it’s done well, it still deserves its flowers. And Marlow delivered here.
SHRIMP & CRAB “NACHO” PLATE – $13 This one caught me off guard in a good way. If you hear “nacho plate,” you’re probably imagining melted cheese, tortilla chips, the whole classic bar food vibe. Not here.
What you get is more like nine chip-shaped pieces of bread, each carefully stuffed end-to-end with seasoned crab meat and shrimp, topped with a little pepper jack and fresh jalapeño. It doesn’t look like nachos. It doesn’t taste like nachos. But it’s a creative spin. You might be surprised by how much you enjoy it, especially if you walk in without expectations.
Final Thoughts Marlow has a vibe. It’s got potential. It tries hard to be upscale casual, and in some places it hits. In others, it misses the mark but not in a way that feels unforgivable. If they tighten up some of the execution and rethink the balance on their sauces, they could elevate their menu to match...
Read moreI recently dined at Marlows Tavern and had a mixed experience. While the food was undeniably good, the slow and spotty service left much to be desired. Additionally, I was disappointed to find that they had removed the much-loved buffalo wrap from their menu.
Let's start with the positives. The food at Marlows Tavern was undoubtedly delicious. From the appetizers to the main course, every dish was prepared with care and had a distinct flavor that impressed my taste buds. The menu offered a diverse range of options, catering to various palates and dietary preferences. Whether you're a fan of burgers, salads, or seafood, Marlows Tavern has something for everyone.
However, the slow and spotty service was a major drawback. Upon entering the restaurant, I found myself waiting at the entrance for quite some time before being seated. Even after being seated, it took an unusually long time for a server to approach our table. While the staff was generally friendly, their attentiveness to our needs was inconsistent. It seemed as though they were understaffed, resulting in slow service and a lack of attention to detail.
Adding to my disappointment was the absence of the buffalo wrap from the menu. Having previously tasted and enjoyed this item, I was eagerly looking forward to indulging in it again. However, to my dismay, it had been removed from the menu. I believe that Marlows Tavern should consider bringing it back, as it was a favorite among many patrons.
Despite the slow service and missing menu item, I must highlight the positive aspects of my experience at Marlows Tavern. The food was undeniably enjoyable, showcasing the culinary expertise of the kitchen staff. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also pleasant, with a cozy ambiance that complemented the dining experience.
In conclusion, while Marlows Tavern offers excellent food and a pleasant atmosphere, the slow and spotty service, as well as the absence of the buffalo wrap, detracted from the overall experience. If the restaurant addresses these issues and brings back the beloved menu item, it could significantly enhance the dining experience for...
Read moreThe service is terrible. The server took our drink and starter order but never came to get our entree order, 20 minutes passed and I had to flag her down to order the rest of my food. I also ordered fries with the starters and drinks & those didn't come out until after I flagged her down to have her take the rest of our order. There's no reason my 2 year old should be waiting 30 minutes on fries. The starters came out first and I ordered the fries at the same time as the starters. Not only that, once it was time to pay and my card declined I was treated as if I were a thief and didn't have the money to pay my ticket, I explained to both the manager (KEN ROBINSON) and server that it was there system because I had the available funds in my account and the manager proceeded to snottily tell me I need to call my bank and come up with a different source of payment, at this point I'm upset because I don't appreciate how I'm being treated so I said no I don't need to call my bank, it's YOUR system, I have the funds but fine I'll go to the ATM and withdraw the funds from this SAME CARD you're insisting doesn't have the money on it. After all of this, I paid the bill and was rudely followed as I left the restaurant and the same manager guy was taking pictures of me as I walked out without my permission. All of this because they were WRONG and assumed that just because their card system declined my card that meant I didn't have the money. Smh, the manager (KEN ROBINSON) needs to replaced immediately. Very unprofessional and extremely off-putting. I'll never return to this place and I hope that KEN ROBINSON THE GENERAL MANAGER is replaced with someone who is actually...
