A friend and I came in mid afternoon with my daughter for a late lunch. When we came in, there were a few people seated, but not many, and it was quiet. A woman called out from a side booth, “Someone will be right with you.” I acknowledged, but asked if we could just seat ourselves. She didn’t answer my question and instead just repeated herself, ”someone will be right with you.” The tone of her voice seemed a bit demeaning, and I immediately felt I had irritated her. A moment later, we were seated in a booth on the far side of the restaurant. As soon as we sat down, I was overwhelmed by the potent smell of nail polish remover. It took me a moment, but I realized that the restaurant was adjacent to a nail salon... the smell of acetone isn’t exactly appetizing, but I can’t fault the restaurant for that. Though, If it were my own restaurant, I would do my best to eliminate that smell in any way possible. Anyway, we ignored the smell as best we could, and about 8 minutes after being seated, the server came and we ordered drinks and an appetizer- queso with chorizo. The server brought out complimentary chips and salsa, as we waited for the server to return with the queso and to take our main orders. It took another ten minutes for the queso, during which time, I began to notice a few interesting things. Small print on the menu stating there would be an additional 5% charge for to-go orders in order to cover the cost of paper products. Then, all the menu options seemed to have “rules” on them- no mixing, no substitutions, etc. I found it all a bit odd. When the server returned, we placed our order. My friend and I both ordered the tacos de asada, and I ordered my daughter a children’s quesadilla with rice. We only had to wait another ten minutes before our food came out- but it was during that time that I noticed the amount of dust accumulation around me. The restaurant looked clean- very clean- at first glance. But looking more closely- it had been a WHILE since the place had been dusted at least. I ran my finger across a few inches on the surface of the partitioning wall and it was coated it gray filth. Upon further inspection, I noticed the lamps above each table were also cloaked in dust and cobwebs. Not really something I want hanging just over my food.. However, I will say- when we got our food a few minutes later, it was pretty good! I did feel like they skimped a bit on the dish, as I only had between 3-5 thin strips of steak per flour tortilla, topped with a sprinkle of cheese and a slice of avocado, and on the side I had a single lime wedge and a small plastic cup of their new habanero hot sauce. It wasn’t much, and really didn’t seem worthy of the $10.99 price tag. $3.67 per taco that is so, well, sparse... 🤨 But at least it tasted good! Just wish there was more to eat on my plate. In the end, I did order my oldest son something to eat, and paid the extra charge for the to-go order. Overall- it’s not a bad choice for a tasty meal. I would just like to see them invest in a duster, be more generous with their portions, and somehow find a way to stop the stench of acetone coming from the nail salon. Oh- and ease up on the strictness some. It...
Read moreFood was good, service was not so great. With a large party, I expected to see multiple wait staff helping out our waitress throught the night when possible. We did not see any of that especially when the restaurant was empty with an entire wait staff not doing anything. Our table was full with empty cups, our table was full of dirty dishes from our appetizers that took over an hour to bring out. The main dishes started with 2 people receiving 3 tacos which took about an hour+ then our food slowly started to come out. Not sure how many line cooks the restaurant has but they definitely need more people working back there. If there truly was one cook back there, they need the whole month off for sure. The wait staff clearly doesn't know the word teamwork. What made everything worse was when I saw the busser; whose job it is to help the servers clear things off the table, and also to bring out chips and salsa to tables, did not do was she was supposed to do. She is not supposed to be standing upfront pretending to be a hostess and pretend that she doesn't have anything to do. What made the whole night worse was when she was sitting at a table CLEANING MENUS when she clearly knew her coworker had a full table of customers waiting to be helped with drinks and clearing our table. Chips and salsa came out around the same time our entrees came out which is definitely not right. Waiting until the last second to take dishes to the dishwasher 1 hour after closing time is the worst thing anyone can do. Also, not sure if the restaurant has a fountain station for drinks but I did see servers walking up to the bar and using the hose to get sodas, waters, etc. That's definitely not acceptable and shouldn't take 3 hours to get simple drinks. I'd definitely have better training with the wait staff about taking care of large parties, or just in general. What was more disappointing was the "manager" not doing anything to better our experience. He was doing a whole lot of standing around and making sure the 3 people at the bar are taken care of. Staff most likely lacks the tools to better expedite their serves such as food trays to bring multiple drinks and food at one time and not one in each hand. Food is great and thank you to our waitress who tried her best to give us a good experience. Thank you to the cook or cooks for the delicious food. Everyone else,...
Read moreThis was our first time here...upon walking in we were not greeted by anyone. Wasn't sure if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. A few people walked past initially with no acknowledgement, but we were finally greeted by our waitress and seated.
Interesting menu and choices for sure.... mixing Mexican and mashed potatoes, never thought I'd see the day.
I got 3 tacos, one beef, one chicken, one fish, and unfortunately all 3 meats were dry. Although the chicken was very overcooked, the taco did have a good flavor(I'm pretty sure it was do to the mashed potatoes) so I somehow still enjoyed it.
The beef was tasteless and dry but the worst of all was the fish. It could have bounced off my plate for how rubbery it was. Definitely a bummer
My wife got flautas as she loves the flautas from Tijuana Flats. She got the beef unfortunately....she hated them. They were truly flavorless and dry. Dipping them in the queso I was able to eat one, but agreed with her, not good at all.
I loved the salsa, nice flavor and the queso which was pretty much what you expect from a Mexican spot.
Overall it left a lot to be desired. Im sure the potential is there and may consider coming back. Having a different cook handling the food could make all the difference. But for almost $30 bucks with a tip, it's hard to want to take that...
