The location itself is charming, with a modern and clean interior that feels very welcoming. I also found the cashier to be friendly with a contagious laugh!
My daughter ordered the fried shrimp plate with mac and cheese, grits, and a side of Big Daddy's nanna pudding. I opted for the 2 grilled shrimp taco plate with fries, priced at $12. We both had drinks; sweet tea was particularly good and sweet. Our food arrived promptly—my order was ready by the time I returned from getting my drink and using the restroom.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my tacos. Presentation of the tiny, shriveled up shrimp alone was off-putting. The shrimp were notably small (smaller than medium-sized shrimp from Walmart) and lacked seasoning or grill marks, tasting bland. My daughter even spat out the shrimp I gave her. While the fries were fresh and crisp, they couldn't make up for the underwhelming tacos. The coleslaw had a decent flavor profile, but the small, bland shrimp ruined the overall experience. I ended up tossing one whole taco after, as I didn't want the $12 to be a complete waste.
My daughter's fried shrimp plate was better. The sides were a decent size, with about 10 give or take medium-sized shrimp served over a slice of bread. While seasoned adequately, she noted they weren't the best she's ever had but still acceptable. She enjoyed the banana pudding, which she is quite particular about. However, she mentioned both sides seemed to have a buffalo sauce undertone.
Our total bill came to $51.xx, and I left a $6 tip. Even without the tip, I felt the meal was overpriced for the quality and quantity of food received. It seemed my daughter's plate alone cost over $20, excluding drinks and dessert, which is much higher than the $12-$15 it should have been.
Perhaps your restaurant is better known for its chicken? If I lived closer, I might consider trying it again, but I wouldn't recommend the seafood based on...
Read morePorch hits all the marks for our family. Food, atmosphere, and service are outstanding. Highly recommend the Frose (frozen rose wine). Especially if you’ll be eating the hot chicken. Nice to follow that heat with a frozen drink. I recommend the Nashville hot chicken or under. The napalm hot chicken is not enjoyable. If you just gotta try it out of curiosity, then order one tender and try it at the end of your meal, trust me. And have a cold drink ready. My husband described it as “painful.” Apparently they have a regular there who eats the napalm hot chicken like it’s nothing, she must have a cast iron stomach. The chicken tenders are huge by the way. And they’re cooked to perfection. Very juicy. I’ll say this about hot chicken though, it’s not very saucy. You can dip it in the ranch of course, but aside from that it’s rolled in the spices. It’s great. But I’m considering smuggling in some hot honey sauce to quietly drizzle over it and pray that the staff doesn’t judge me. The sides are outstanding. They the banana pudding, greens, and pimento cheese grits! Fair warning, this place is not a cheap eat. It’s not the most expensive either, but we easily top $75 each time we go there for two adult meals, one child, and a couple of alcoholic drinks (the frose)! But, it’s worth the splurge. Big wrap around porch, plenty of well spaced seating, the wrap around porch is screened in, and there is seating in the yard too. Family friendly. Kids play area out front in the yard. Parking can be tricky. I recommend going during off hours like for an early dinner...
Read moreMy family stopped here while we were in the area and looking for a bite to eat later in the evening. Porch closed at 9pm whereas other nearby restaraunts closed at 8:30, so we decided to visit Porch. There were three of us eating and we tried the fried catfish platter, chicken salad, mac and cheese, maple baked beans, and banana pudding. Of these, we could only really recommend the chicken salad and banana pudding. There was nothing wrong with the baked beans, but they weren't really great either. The mac and cheese was good, but not so good that my 9-year-old fell in love with it (which he does with a lot of other mac and cheeses). My wife loved the chicken in her salad, and we both enjoyed the giant mixing bowl it was served in. My catfish, however, was quite bland. The breading was almost flavorless and the fish itself just tasted like generic fish. The tartar it came with was good, but not quite enough to offset the breading. It might have been better if I had asked for it with some spice, but it's hard to know. The atmosphere of the place is really what shines though. We loved the old-fashioned southern front porch aesthetic, right down to the creaky wooden screen door. We also loved the picnic table seating outdoors and the aforementioned games for kids. It was a great place to stop and eat, even late at night in November. I'd recommend this place if you're in the mood for good banana pudding, good atmosphere, and good service. But I'd avoid the bland catfish and maple...
