We arrived around 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon. It’s a cute place - kind of southern plantation meets island vibe. It was pretty slow, but there seemed to be a lot of staff milling around. The bar area had a couple of tvs with sports shows. Service wasn’t good. Staff seemed nice and various people stopped by at various times, but no one seemed to be actually taking care of us. It took a while to get drinks and then place our orders, one order was wrong, another didn’t have the listed sauce, we had to ask for refills when we could catch people, and no extra napkins were given as usually happens when seafood is served. Not fun. However, they made fresh coffee for my friend, gave me better tea when I asked (the original was bitter) and turned on the big ceiling fans when my friend asked. So it wasn’t awful. Just not good. But on a more positive note, the food was good. The coconut crusted Mahi Mahi sandwich was so good I ditched the bread and just ate the fish. My friend can’t have gluten so she ordered a Mahi Ruben without bread. While she brought her own gluten free bread, she didn’t use it as what they served was very good on its own. So we would probably come back for the food, but we’d probably try other places nearby first to see if we get better service. One food thing - the French fries were coated, which I did not see listed on the menu, and which probably means they are not...
Read moreWe have been visiting St Simons for 25 years, and coming to Mullet Bay since the first visit. New Management took over last year and boy, has everything changed. Portions were far smaller, quality was far lower, prices were much higher. Half the menu says "market price" - including things like salmon, which our waitress with a straight face told us was from the local catch. The food came out suspiciously fast - in other words, reheated in the case of the salmon, which was machine cut in the normal grocery store portion. The clam strips were disgusting, rubbery, and mostly breading. We looked up a photo of a vacation some years back to compare, and it was night and day in both size and portion. The shrimp are much smaller than before, but not bad. The rice side dish had zero flavor, truly came from a box from a bored wholesaler. The waitress Claire was very sweet and understanding that we were not enjoying the changes, wasn't her fault. They also changed out much of the decor - making high tops and raised platforms with non-beach themes. It looks like they wanted to drive out families and focus on more affluent clients. In all, we are heartbroken that the place we raised our family on vacation is more like a Red Lobster than a charming oceanside family seafood place. Food once was great...now like a...
Read moreMy daughter and I arrived around 8:00. We did wait for about 30 minutes for a table which was fine. After we were seated at a high top by the bar, we waited at least 15 minutes and no server came to greet us or get our drink order. The couple seated at the table next to us had been there several minutes prior to us and also had not been greeted by a server. My daughter went to the bar and asked about the server for our tables. At least 10 minutes later a server who was working the outdoor area came by and said it wasn’t her section but she would take care of us. She took the other tables order and said she would be back. Before she could get back, another server came to us and said no one had been by our table because there was some confusion as to whose table it was. That makes no sense because it was late in the dinner rush. Who had been waiting on that table since the dinner rush started at probably 4 or 5:00?! Anyway, she took our food and drink order at the same time…..and we waited. We still did not have our drinks when our food arrived. After our food arrived, we never saw our server again until she brought our check. Then when I was ready to pay, she was too busy cleaning to come by and pick it up and another server ended up taking it. The food was good but the service...
