Four stars is an average for three pizzas included in this review. Ordering for the first time from East of Chicago, it was not clear to me if and what is the difference between Pan and Chicago style crusts so I ordered both, hoping that one might be what I was hoping for. When rating pizzas the crust accounts for about 2/3 of my total score, as the toppings can only in few cases hide the facts and pull the score up. The first pizza in this review is the Chicago style cheese pizza. The firsts impression was â is this our order or a mix-up? After closer inspection all content was there; sadly, there were just two similarities with the true Chicago style pizzas: tall edges, and the slightly sweet red sauce over all other layers. But the middle was thin, at best, just one half of what you would get in Chicago. Though, the overall flavor was not bad, and this pizza earned 3 stars. The second pizza in this review is the pan pizza, margarita. What a difference! The crust was thick, oiled, crisp and had good texture and flavor. Plenty of cheese, and all other toppings only made it better. It reminded me on Pizza Hut pan pizzas in the old days. Anyway, this one eared my 5 stars. The last pizza in this review is the 7-layer veggie with gluten-free crust. As expected, the crust is thin and crunchy, somewhat comparable to pizza crusts at Boscoâs, but not distractive, and in this case you expect the toppings to overwhelm the crust. Four stars! As others already said â this is not Chicago, so adjust your expectations. However, if you know what to order you can certainly find excellent options here. I vote for pan pizzas (crust)....
Read moreAt first we really liked this place. Is the only decent pizza around, hence the 2 stars and not 1. However, if you keep ordering and trying to be a loyal customer, lots of things will go wrong.
I normally order through the app where, until recently, you could type in special requests, though characters are limited. Since we do a half and half, Iâve asked repeatedly for the halves to be separated, but they never are. They label the box, the pizza moves, especially when getting delivered, so itâs never right.
Iâve also asked repeatedly for a well done pizza, and it is about 30% of the time.
If you order half and half, there is a good chance the whole pizza will actually have all the toppings leaving you with nothing to eat.
The app wonât function properly about half the time, and they admit it. You think you saved your order for next time, itâs not there. You order a pizza for delivery, and it just doesnât place the order. You order delivery, but it does it for pickup. Just recently it looks like they did an update, and when you try to use your saved credit card, it tells you to choose a form of payment and you can no longer add special requests.
Only once have we had successful delivery. I donât know if theyâre trying to make sure it makes it in a certain amount of time, but outside of the one time, itâs either been under cooked or obvious that the person driving was driving like a bat out of hell.
Maybe I order...
Read moreI've been eating at this place for maybe 3 yrs now, and I must admit when the ingredients especially the sauce is fresh it's some really good pizza. But my main issue is there is no consistency in the taste of the pizza. I usually order the same thing every order and sometimes the sauce is really good, other times you can tell the sauce is outdated or watered down. Also not sure but the cheese is either outdated or close to it. I personally think that a good pizza starts with the sauce and the crust and the sauce just never seems to be the same. So beware If you're ordering from this place you're taking a gamble on the consistency of what you've had from previous orders. I ordered one 8/28, and again the sauce wasn't very good and the cheese wasn't very good and really thick. It seems everytime I try to introduce this place to friends the pizza is horrible, I will give East of Chicago a break and allow them to work on their consistency with fresh ingredients for a better taste. You shouldn't cheat the customer to save a dollar, and I understand every order isn't the same but what should be is the taste of your sauce on...
