I had lunch today at Soulfish Cafe on Poplar and Forest Hill Irene with girlfriends. After we finished eating, I asked for dessert, (girlfriends did too) in which I asked for caramel cake. The caramel cake tasted like butterscotch cake. I asked if i could send it back and maybe get a slice of lemon pie. The waitress says, "I have to get the manager" because we can't take it back. Manager (ZACK ALEXANDER) comes out and says "NO, we can't take nothing back". I hadn't eaten the cake, barely tasted it to tell it was not caramel. I explained to him that the cake tasted like butterscotch and not caramel. I wasn't asking him to give me nothing but at least another choice. Obviously, their cakes are false advertising, even the strawberry cake was terrible (wasn't strawberry) but my friend ate it anyway. That became an issue for me. Soulfish was a favorite place to eat for me and a lot of friends and family. I asked the manager (ZACK ALEXANDER), are you telling me that SOULFISH CAFE would rather lose business (because they will) than to give me a slice of lemon pie that I'm going to pay for? How foolish was that, right? Well, that's exactly what he meant. We wonder sometimes why restaurants are closing at such pace OR are they so broke that this the going thing right now. I've visited many, many restaurants but have never run into this kind of encounter. This guy that says he's the manager, (ZACK ALEXANDER) is in the WRONG BUSINESS, should be at 201Poplar. I will no longer patronize Soulfish Cafe and will ask my friends and family to do the same. All about swapping out cake for pie, REALLY! By the way, we spent well over $100 during the lunch. SOULFISH CAFE will not get another dime from me,...
Read moreAfter driving five hours to visit family and attend a graduation at the University of Memphis, we chose to dine at Soul Fish Café to end the day with a nice meal. Unfortunately, that decision turned out to be a mistake from the start.
The service was extremely slow. When our salads were finally brought out, the waitress accidentally dropped our ranch dressing on the floor and never returned to replace it. We chose not to make a scene and remained quiet, despite the poor service.
One of our party members ordered a blackened chicken sandwich, which arrived overcooked, rubbery, and completely inedible. Again, not wanting to cause a disruption, we didn’t complain at the time. Instead, we shared food from our own plates since we didn’t have time to wait for a replacement.
At the end of the meal, we did inform the waitress that the sandwich was not edible. After speaking with the manager, she returned and told us they would only charge us for the fries. While we appreciated not being charged for the sandwich, it felt unnecessarily petty to still be billed for the fries—especially given the circumstances. Had it been my mistake, I would have comped the entire meal without question.
Additionally, we were automatically charged an 18% gratuity because we had a party of six. While this is standard practice, it’s unfortunate considering the service did not warrant a tip of any kind.
We have all the receipts if needed. Soul Fish, we hope you’ll take this feedback seriously. You can and...
Read moreBack in March 2023, we went to Soul Fish on Germantown. One person ordered blackened salmon. It was burnt. We didn't say anything, just paid for our meals and left. This past Sunday, June 25th, we went again. One person ordered the blackened salmon. It was also burnt. The meat between the burnt outsides was bland and unseasoned. Even though everyone wasn't finished eating, the waitress began asking to take our dishes. My husband got a piece of the burnt salmon and agreed that it was burnt and unseasoned. When our waitress wouldn't make eye contact with any of us, my husband told another waitress our issue. She told our waitress who NEVER returned to the table. We're waiting on the tab. Finally, a woman came, identified herself as a manager, but not her name. My husband began the conversation with"I just wanted you to know that the blackened salmon is burnt.". She immediately said there's nothing she can do. She stated we should have mentioned it earlier so another one could be prepared. We weren't asking for, nor did we WANT, another one. We will NEVER go back to this location again and will tell our friends about our...
