I want to love this place. As someone who has eaten some great Mexican food from Mexico and USA I was excited that a local food truck I really enjoy decided to open a nicer dining Mexican fare business. So we gave it a shot. Although my review states two stars I wish to note that the food itself tasted fine and was decent. We gave them a try early on Saturday. Well before dinner rush and well after lunch rush. Plenty of staff. Plenty of space and seats. Yet we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally seated. Yet again we waited and waited. There had to be at least 8 staff walking around yet no one would even say be right there or even take a drink order. Once we finally ordered. The food had a steep price tag on it. The emoleadas that I ordered personally. Which was three small chicken enchiladas smothered in supposedly from scratch mole sauce. They either Americanized it or it just wasn’t great homemade mole. I can understand not making a true true mole to fit the American palate but add some flavor. As someone who has desperately tried to find good mole locally. You failed there. The sides were waaaaay over priced and pretentious at best. A deconstructed Mexican street corn that would have been better if they just made street corn. But nope just deconstructed with some micro greens on top to signify fancy. The chips were ok just once again served in a very pretentious manner. Even the way they were cut was made to try to be fancy but ended up just making them hard to scoop and eat. I see what they were going for here. More of a Rick bayless experience Mexican restaurant. But so far I feel you have failed in that aspect. $7 for a tiny bit of corn, $7 for a tiny bit of chips. Each side was expensive. And more than their tacos for tiny portions. I’ll stick to their food trucks from now on and save $45 on top of what it would normally cost to eat what we ate. The decor at first caught me then I realized it’s not tile on the walls it’s a printed sticky paper or something. Just overall felt I was going in for top notch Mexican cuisine and ended up over paying and waiting waaay too long when they weren’t even busy. My last issue is the speed to which my meal came out. Instant almost. Which generally speaking would be a good thing. But you can’t develop and send out fresh food instantly. Which shows to me it’s all pre cooked and just shoveled out once orders come in. Which does not justify the $28 price tag of a dish. For $28 I can get a top Memphis chef to cook me a filet mignon…. Sadly I won’t be back even though I desperately want my good...
Read moreI came across a video on tiktok showing that Taconganas opened a restaurant and I when I saw it I got my boyfriend and his brother to come with me!! The taconganas food trucks are nice but this restaurant is beautiful from the inside and out. I didn’t get any pictures of the inside but it’s very bright and colorful.
(I didn’t manage to take pictures of everything we tried, but I’ll do my best to rate each item.)
We shared the cheese dip as an appetizer, and while it was delicious, the dip was served at room temperature, and the chips were quite thick. There ended up being more chips than dip.
My boyfriend and I tried the raspberry lemon shot, and it was delicious—sweet with only a hint of alcohol.
My boyfriend ordered the street tacos and enjoyed them! However, we all agreed that the ones from the food truck are much better—they were less salty and had more of the ingredients that seemed to be missing at the restaurant.
My boyfriend’s brother and I were open to trying something new, so we ordered the ramen birria. Personally, the ramen tasted more like roast beef stew or something you’d get from a grocery store. I was expecting a different flavor, but I didn’t make a big deal out of it since I also ordered street tacos, and I’m sure they could have made it spicier if I’d asked.
As soon as we arrived, we were seated right away in a comfortable booth. The waitress was very friendly, though she seemed a bit overwhelmed with so many tables, which I understood since it was busy for a Monday evening around 6. I didn’t mind any of it because I really enjoyed everything overall. I plan on returning for lunch, hoping it’ll be during happy hour! Thank you,...
Read moreI was excited to visit this new restaurant. When my guest and I , I informed the hostess that we would like seating for a party of 5 or 6. Once seated, the server came to the table to inform me that we could only break orders into one or two checks. I complied and said that would be ok, as many restaurants have adopted this as a means to reduce confusion for the server. Once the entire party of (5 + baby) arrived, I informed them of “rule” and they were ok, as well. When it was time to take our food order, the server reiterated there could only be one or two checks. My guests and I once again agreed, for they were made aware by me. Minutes later we watched a table of 7 get handed individual check holder/folders by their server—each person paid individually using their credit cards. We brought it to the our server’s attention—she walked away spoke to a gentleman, then she came back and said that the table of 7 was the owner’s son and his friends. There was no apology, no other explanation. Additionally, there was another party sitting adjacent to us—they were totally oblivious of the rule. Flabbergasted, we decided that we did not want to dine there any longer. We informed the server, again she walked away, when she came back she was accompanied by a crew of people—she no longer spoke English, in fact she pulled the “language barrier” card to justify their discrimination. Nevertheless, they made it clear that we were not welcome in their establishment. We canceled our order, then paid for what we consumed. It’s sad that people who know first hand what it feels like to be discriminated against would participate in blatant...
