We had the most horrific experience of injustice at this bar on 2/9/24. A group of us were playing darts when a member of our group got shoved aggressively by a bouncer who was dragging a woman out of the bar. He asked the bouncer to chill out as we were all just trying to have a good time, which caused the bouncer to snap, turn around and knock him down to the ground. Another bouncer came over as our friend was curled up on the floor trying to protect himself and they put him in a chokehold to the point where he couldn’t breathe, then proceeded to relentless beat him while he was completely defenseless. When they got their aggression out on him they dragged him out of the bar, and ran back in. We didn’t see the bouncers who beat him again after that, and people who came out of the bar told us they were hiding in the back. The bicycle police showed up, took statements, and told us they would get video from the bar. We received the police report which stated that the bouncer was the victim in the altercation and our friend was the aggressor. They are charging him with disorderly conduct, even though there were multiple witnesses outside of our party and our friend has a broken foot and a black eye while the bouncer was unscathed. The most shocking, heartbreaking thing to realize businesses can get away with this behavior and the cops enable it further. Highly recommend avoiding this place, as other reviews have stated this is not a one off occurrence and there is no repercussion when they hurt customers. In fact, they are the “victim”....
Read moreVery rude and discriminatory staff. I was not allowed in based on my looks. I was well dressed and tasteful, so I could not understand the issue. First just a barmaid poked her head out, looked me up and down, then told the bouncer to refuse entry for me. The manager also backed her decision without even speaking to me. I have only ever been into the bar once for a quiet drink months ago so I was highly perplexed and their rudeness and aggressive refusal towards me. They do have the right to refuse service to anyone, but this behavior on their part was shocking and unexpected. It is, however, no loss on my part. The bar is dingey and has a foul odor. Having been a fan of many a dive bar in my youth, I felt inclined to pop in, but Champions is a far cry from the understated coolness of the dive bars that people tend to regularly frequent. This one seems to be full of Philistines and miscreants who would make for poor company and will probably kick you out if you haven't had a lobotomy. It really seems like only half-witted yokels are allowed to drink...
Read moreBusy place. Parking is hard to find because of so many shops and restaurants near there. Was hard to get a drink order, part if the tables were reserved for later in the evening so people coming earlier had to hold their own drinks or share tables. Wasnt enough tables. Bar is somewhat narrow, so if people are playing g darts and pool at the same time there is very little walk room.
Mens bathroom was clean. No idea about the womens, they weren't complaining so it must have been ok. Drink prices hit and miss decent selection from the bar, $6 for draft Blue Moon, seemed steep for me compared to other places I've been.
I loved the breathalyzer on the wall. Must have for all drinking establishments. Overall it was OK. Will go back again. Still felt out of place for not having boots and cowboy hat. I'll...
