It has been a long time I have not been at Kona Grill San Tan, I used to love that place, I was with my family , we order our food, my son asked for a Filet well done they brought it medium rare, he got disgusted by that and after the first bite he could not eat it so he asked to be replace with other dish with chicken. My plate was Macadamia nut chicken , when they brough it out, it was cold, I sent it back to get warmed up. Then our waiter was not showing up to the table very often and we had to ask for help to other waitress who very kindly helped us. By the end if the night when I was going to pay the check wich was $375 , usually I never check the check but I was curious to see if they took out from the check the filet $42 we sent back, it was not out of the check so I call the waiter and asked him if he realized the filet was still in the check, his answer was yes, we didn't take it out because your son ate most of it then I replied that it was not true since my son got grossed out and could not continue eating meet after the first bite. He told me he would ask the manager and I told him it was not necessary because my intention was not to get a discount or get things for free. So I continue to pay the check in full and once I did that then I asked for the manager, I explained to her first that I have had paid in full so I wanted to let her know what a bad experience we had so they could better their service and I didn't wanted a discount.
I was shocked whe she replied that the chicken we sent back was not that cold because she checked it out herself and did not aknowledge anything about the rare filet, she did not offer any apology or made any efort to make us feel that she cared , nothing at all but practically making me feel I was lying about the chicken being cold or the uneaten meet. If I would have done this to get a discount, I would have called her before I paid the check.
Short story the worst part of the whole expierence was the manager , if she would have shown she cared instead of telling me we were wrong it would have made all the difference. Now we understand why on Friday was the place so empty at some point we counted 8 tables busy including the patio. We are not coming back and with a manager like that, it is going to be hard for Kona to keep the doors open in that location, this Kona nothing to compare to the Kona of a few years ago. Very bad service.... very, very bad...
Read moreWhere do I begin? I can’t believe this restaurant is still open. I don’t review often but something needs to change in this place…
I booked via Resy for 7pm dinner. We arrived 10 mins or so before 7 and when we got there there was already a long line at the reception area & the hostess was nowhere to be found- she was overwhelmed, she works the station alone and she kept on leaving the reception desk. People were canceling due to the long wait. We had to queue for 20 mins just to talk to her and by the time I spoke to her it was already 7:15. We told her we had a 7pm reservation but she didn’t honor the reservation she said we have to wait 20 more mins because she’s behind. There’s no apologies nor courtesy whatsoever at this point. Other customers had to sneak at the machine to see how far down the queue they are because the hostess wasn’t there most of the time she’s going back and forth to the kitchen to push for online orders - that’s how bad it was.
By the time we were seated, we’re already pissed and hungry but disappointment didn’t stop there because we had to wait 45 more mins for the food to arrive. After ordering the food arrived at 8:15 already and this is the pathetic state of the $44 plate I got. My jaw dropped at the state of this … This is not the work of a chef or a trained cook. Makes you wonder who runs this place? This is supposed to be a Chilean Seabass dish that ws marked with “F” being the customer’s favorite but there’s no love nor care put into it. I felt like it’s missing 3 pcs of carrots or something. It’s not cooked properly, it was flaking- the crumbs on the plate are the flakes from the tinie tiny quarter of a seabass, it was greasy/oily, no seasoning, and served on top of 4 pcs of bokchoy. Cant believe I waited for a long time for this food… it’s not a work of a chef its street-food level of food for $44. It’s a scam. It’s a ripoff. I know it’s a very frank review but someone needs to know and something needs to change with this restaurant.
If it’s not for Resy I wouldn’t have eaten here. The only pleasant part was the waitstaff. The food and the management are disappointing.
I cant believe this place is still open. Dont bother to come here unless you want to be stressed and you want to ruin your night. Total bill $144+ including tip (for 2 adults and a 12 yo kid.) Not coming...
Read moreSadly, not a great experience today. When walking into the restaurant, the lobby smelled a bit like a bathroom. I'm not sure if they were having issues with plumbing or not, but it's not a nice smell to experience when entering a restaurant. After seeing some of the prices for appetizers, we decided just to get the main dishes. Charging $9 for miso soup and $15 for edamame seems way too high of a price considering they are pretty simple sides to make. Even the pot stickers and egg rolls being over $20 is just too high.
My fiancee got the sunset roll and it was absolutely amazing. That was the best part of our meal. I got the surf and turf with a medium rare strip steak and shrimp. I would almost expect a meal worth $50 would include 2 sides, but it only includes one, which is fine as long as the main dish is good. When receiving my plate, I noticed there were only 3 shrimp on it which was saddening. I figured this would be okay as long as the steak was great. The steak was both hard to cut through and very rare. My entire plate was filled with blood about 1/3 of the way in. The shrimp was a bit on the chewy side which didn't help too much either. Both main parts of the dish were underwhelming. The fried rice was good, but not as great as I remember it when I was younger. My fiancee also got a side of fried rice and added pork. Turns out if you want that, you need to pay $9 for the fried rice itself, but to add pork, it's an extra $8 on top of that. We didn't realize that until we got the bill and thought it was pretty absurd considering that's pretty much half the price of a meal here. It just doesn't add up.
Overall, the service was good, the sushi was awesome and the rest of it was a let down. Was hoping to get a way better experience from a high end place like this and for paying as much as we did, but sadly did not. If we do return, we will absolutely just be getting the sushi as it's the best bang for your buck here. I hope I was detailed enough with the feedback to help the establishment know what could be improved to make it a better dining...
