I chose The Keg (in Gilbert) for its reputation of being a good restaurant with higher end food at a reasonable price to celebrate a special event.
I set a reservation 10 days prior, and the day before my reservation I received a text, as well as an email, asking me to confirm my reservation. It was an easy process (I tried both confirmations)...it was a simple 1 click response. Via text it asked me to select the number that corresponded with my selection & in the email I just needed to click on the corresponding answer.
We, me and my wife, ended up arriving 30 minutes earlier than expected. Upon checking in, we were guided to the bar while awaiting for our reservation, but within just a few minutes they made accommodations and seated us early.
Upon being seated our waiter (Nate - hopefully he doesn't mind being mentioned) approached and immediately he left a good impression as being very personable. He opened with asking if we had eaten there before - and with that out of the way we discussed drinks and appetizers. We opened with calamari and a couple of non-alcoholic drinks (pic not posted). I mention this to say I hate calamari but was encouraged to dip it in a special house sauce they make & I was immediately a fan of the sauce! Seriously worth trying with any seafood appetizer! Nate explained the ingredients of the sauce but all I heard was yummy!
The dishes chosen were their famous Prime Rib (14oz) with a Twice Baked Potato and had deep fried onions (is my guess) and the Lobster Tail dish served with Garlic Mashed Potatoes & vegetables. We added a side dish of Shrimp & Scallop Oscar (to ultimately dip into the house sauce). Pics attached
The Prime Rib was perfectly cooked - the only down side for me was the dipping sauce seemed kind of bland for my taste (but I also make my own sauce to my taste) but my wife thoroughly enjoyed the dipping sauce - not to salty and not over bearing to take away from the natural Prime Rib flavor.
The Lobster Tail dish came with two (2) Lobster Tails and as mentioned the Garlic Mashed Potatoes & some veggies. Nothing bad at all to say about this dish as it was very enjoyable. We did dip in both the melted butter & the house sauce I spoke of earlier!
The side dish was the Shrimp & Scallop Oscar - without asking it seemed like a sweet/sour type of cheese sauce. We both didn't really like it - but again each person has their own taste. However we did dip the Shrimp & Scallops in the house sauce & immediately it was so much better. *We decided next time instead of this side dish we would order the grilled shrimp as this is more to our liking.
Dessert: We had planned on trying the Crem Brulee but when hearing of our celebration The Keg gave us a free sample of their Billy Miner...
Read moreOn May 19, 2025, my family and I made reservations at The Keg in Gilbert, AZ to celebrate a special occasion—our daughter’s kindergarten graduation. Our party consisted of my husband, myself, and our five young children. We chose this restaurant based on its positive reputation, family-friendly menu, and later closing hours, which we felt would allow for a relaxed, enjoyable evening.
Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted and seated, and our server, Ben, initially made a friendly impression. Unfortunately, the quality of service and overall experience quickly declined.
The first issue arose with the children’s Shirley Temples, which tasted sour. I ordered one as well and noted it lacked the expected flavor, likely due to missing garnishes. We overlooked this at first, but more significant problems followed.
After placing our orders, we experienced long gaps in service. While the children’s vegetable plates and bread were delivered, our server did not return until the entrées arrived. My husband and I had both ordered prime rib meals, which were supposed to include salads and a choice of sides. Neither salad was served, and when we inquired, our server apologized, stating he would remove them from the bill. Additionally, a shareable side of broccoli we had ordered was forgotten entirely.
Further issues included missing steak knives, a missing bordelaise sauce for the prime rib, and an extended delay in receiving a simple tea refill. By the time steak knives and drinks finally arrived, our meals were cold. Frustrated, we chose to box our food and leave. While the server removed certain charges from the bill, no further effort was made to recover what had become an extremely disappointing experience—especially given this was meant to be a celebratory evening for our family.
Following this visit, I contacted The Keg’s corporate office rather than immediately leaving a negative review. After two weeks, I received a call from someone claiming to be a manager at the Gilbert location. He apologized, assured me our family would be invited back as “special guests,” and promised to send a letter confirming that our next dinner would be fully covered. He took my mailing address, but two months later, no letter has arrived. The lack of follow-through was, frankly, more disappointing than the original poor service.
As a family who does not dine out frequently, we had hoped for a memorable, positive experience. Instead, we were left feeling disregarded and let down twice—once by the initial service and again by an unfulfilled promise to make things right. With the many excellent dining options available in Gilbert, I cannot, in good faith, recommend The...
Read moreHow can so many people afford to dine out these days? Yet every restaurant here is packed seven days. The cost for our party of four last night with a bottle of wine, taxes and tip - $205. Be that as it may, The Keg scores big. It's one of the few restaurants that accepts reservations through an effortless mobile app that is designed to make the process easy and stays in touch with reminders and asks you to reconfirm a day before. We were seated immediately for our 7:15 PM reservation. Even though the system states that reservations are only applicable to indoor seating, we were given an option to sit outside as well. Service was very good. Our server did a fine job of explaining the menu and such. Our water was refreshed as needed through the stay. The food was attractive and the portion sizes were good. Our friends each ordered the prime rib and told us on the drive home that they were not happy with the cut or the taste. Maybe because the meat was cut thin, less than an inch, and traditional prime rib is well over that. The meat temperatures were exactly as ordered. My New York Strip was ordered medium and my wife ordered her fillet medium rare. They were perfect. Her twice baked potato was large and tasty as was my loaded baked potato. Be prepared for a LOUD environment, either inside or out. The parking lot and its byways are just feet from the patio dining and there was no shortage of obnoxiously loud motorcycles, trucks and muscle cars flowing by non-stop. Inside, not much better due to the big box layout with poor acoustics. You'll be shouting at one another just to be heard during conversation. That's just a personal observation and nothing that warrants a reduction in my 5 star rating. The Keg, by today's norms, is one of the best and judging by the large numbers of people who dine here, my opinion is not...
