I’ve heard this place of being a sushi hotspot where customers travel far and wide to eat here. However, when I visited I was highly disappointed. Overpriced and understaffed. For all the profit they receive one waitress and one busboy for 10-12 tables is unrealistic and unfair to the employee. I waited 20 min to be seated with my friend even though there were 3-4 vacant tables outside. For other parties they were seated in 1 min. Then, I was given an attitude that I didn’t want to sit at a the table outside right next to the door where there was high foot traffic during COVID season. Then, 2 other parties that came after us were attended first and served 6 different plates of food immediately when I had ordered before them a soup and 1 plate of sushi, super simple. It was after work and I was very hungry and had patiently waited for my food for 30 min when the other customers who came much later than me were fed in 5-10 min. I was left confused and perplexed. They could have at least brought out our drinks and miso soup for starters. But they didn’t think of that. I had to go up to the waitress and remind her a few times about my food. Apparently, they had burned my food supposedly. If that was genuinely the case, they should have redone it before preparing other tables with plates and plates of food. Then, I asked that same waitress to give me some sort of discount b/c they didn’t even offer any free appetizer or discount for their error. At the end, I persisted and asked for a little discount b/c she didn’t want to give it. She actually huffed and puffed and slammed my card aggressively in front of me. Mind you I was talking very calmly, politely and patiently. She proceeded to pull out a “Karen” scene. Her behavior was very hostile, inappropriate, and unprofessional. I felt very mistreated and upset. This place abuses and mistreats customers. The food is same as other sushi places just overpriced with terrible service and with an aggressive / violent waitress....

The Service: Hannah was taking care of our table. Super friendly & efficient. Her smile definitely brighten our day. She is very attentive and always checking on every table if customers need something. Excellent customer service!!
The Food: When we dine with the kids and they couldn't really eat raw fish. We always look for options on the menu that they can eat. Here... tons of options! We like it.
Under entree, we ordered chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, bulgogi and assorted tempura. They are plated like a bento box, there are also salad, rice and miso soup. Definitely a great meal with good price!
Seafood Yakisoba is one of our favorite noodles dishes. Huge portion! Perfect to share. Lots of seafood and the noodles has great texture.
We also tried their two new rolls, Princess Roll (no rice) & Raging Crab Roll. They are both plated beautifully. Princess Roll has no rice so if you are cutting down your carbs, you got to try this roll. There are so many good stuffs in Raging Crab Roll, crab meat, crab stick, shrimp tempura & etc.
The Parking: Large parking lot at the back of the restaurant and across the...

Montrose feels like a town time forgot - in the best way. Tucked beneath the shadow of the Verdugo Mountains, the main strip holds onto something rare: a rhythm that hasn’t been rushed. There’s a sense of place here. A walk down Honolulu Avenue is part small-town Americana, part hidden food haven.
And in the middle of it all sits Blue Fish Japanese Sushi - a spot that doesn’t scream for your attention but earns it bite by bite.
Start with the spicy tuna on crispy rice. No frills, no flash - just flavor done right. The edamame is fresh, the vegetable tempura hits that perfect light crunch, and the rolls? However you choose to roll, they’ll deliver.
There’s a seasonality to the experience here - not in the menu, but in the way it makes you feel. A quiet kind of comfort, a reminder that good food doesn’t always need a spotlight. Sometimes, it just needs a seat at the sushi bar and a view of the mountains.
Bluefish is a must - not just in Montrose, but for anyone chasing the soul of a place...
