I was there today & had a margarita on the rocks & it was made just right & had a good amount of tequil in it! I have been going here since 1978 & nothing has changed except they got a liquor license & added the bar. Their shredded beef tacos are the best & huge! Their Chile Verde is the best I have ever had! It can be very hot depending on chile season, will be at least a 5/10 scale, but can be a 10!! Two weeks ago it was a 9/10, so be careful! Their home made house salsa is great & is hard to stop eating with their chips! They have the best refried beans! I love to put their house salsa on the beans then dip a chip into it! Try the shredded beef burrito or a child verde burrito! Their shredded beef tostada is delicious, I get it without the shell. Going there for father's day with my kids! Can't wait till they open earlier on Saturday again! Never had a problem with a blasting radio as Jon mentioned, but sometimes the margarita is weak & I tell them about it & they correct it! Jon mentions nothing about the food? If radio was so loud just ask them to turn it down, I would not let it ruin my meal Jon! In my 42 years of going to El Charro I have never heard loud music! Jon has only done 3 reviews, I have done over 400 & love El Charro & wish I did not live 24 miles away now! When I lived 8 blocks away I went there weekly & my kids loved the tacos & grew up going there & still love going there & are now 52 & 55! Open at noon on Saturday now! 07/23/2022 best chili verde ever! Try a chile verde tostada without the shell ask for a side of Verde sauce to pour over the tostada! Wonderful! I hope they survive! Celebrated my birthday there today March 4th 2023 with a chile relleno tostada topped with sour cream...
Read moreA real disappointment and had we not invited our friends, we would have left. The service and the wait time for the food was unacceptable. We were seated immediately, but did not see our waiter for almost 20 minutes. The bus boy delivered chips and salsa about 6 minutes after we were seated and then returned 5 minutes after to take our drink orders. The waiter finally showed up and we ordered. Our food took over 45 minutes to arrive although the section we were seated was only 50% occupied. Rarely did we see our waiter during the evening and we noticed other customers were also waiting for drinks and food. Although the staff was friendly, there seemed not to be any urgency or concern. Our waiter did apologized for the long wait, but it seemed that this was normal by his casual attitude. We also ordered food to go, which also took a long time. The food was average Mexican food made for an American palate. The tacos lacked flavor and the toppings were basic. No salsas came with the tacos and we had to ask for bottled hot sauce. With all the great Mexican restaurants in the area, I can not recommend El Charro based on poor service, tired, outdated decor and...
Read moreI can remember going to El Charros as a kid some 30+ years ago, honestly couldn't imagine Montrose without it. Definitely one of the easiest if not the easiest restaurants to find in the Montrose area, its located on the corner of Verdugo Blvd and Honolulu. There's normally plenty of parking in the lot directly next to it, the lot can be accessed from Verdugo. The restaurant itself is clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly and service is normally great. The food is consistently good, the menu consists of straight forward Mexican dishes with no surprises. El Charros is a great place to eat with the family or friends and can accommodate groups of all sizes. There's also a full bar that serves excellent margaritas. Like any restaurant business picks up around dinnertime, especially on the weekends, early arrival or reservations will help assure...
