Support an excellent family run business. Mini kabob refers to availability of small sized kabobs, but the place if quite miniature in size as well. I hate to be cliche, but it's miniature in size, but quite a mighty restaurant. For some reason, mighty mouse popped in my head. Anyway, the establishment is about the size of a small room. There's a kitchen, counter, and maybe room inside for a few people. I know this word is so overused, but the food is truly amazing. Tender, delicious/full of flavor, moist. It definitely doesn't hurt that the prices and portion sizes are good too. Even the chicken breast was moist & flavorful (many places, even high end spots serve dry, tough, bland chicken breast). Plates generally come w/ the protein, fluffy rice, charred/grilled tomato, onion, & pepper (jalapeno?), hummus (good texture & well seasoned), flat bread, and garlic sauce (thankfully not overpowering garlic bomb yet still very flavorful). They also offer salads, sides, pickles, wraps, etc. I've been wanting to try the eggplant caviar, but it's pretty popular, so they may run out. The cucumber and yogurt is refreshing & a great accompaniment. The only time I've had the food be dry or bad temperature (hot food too cold, cold stuff too warm) was entirely my fault and waiting a really long time before eating it. Don't expect much in the way of atmosphere. The place is tiny. However, the owners have always been incredibly friendly, and helpful. If I had any complaint, it's that they're out in Glendale, so not so near where I live. I'm not a big soda person, but some of the "exotic" sodas are stand outs. Tarragon soda is kind of love/hate. It's not always available and has a strong herby syrupy thing going, maybe even a bit like licorice. The Armenian walnut soda is not as exotic tasting as it sounds. It tastes like a high quality coca cola. I imagine that's what coke or pepsi should taste like if they went for quality rather than the stuff large scale corporations prefer to go for. My favorite is the pear soda. This Russian soda tastes as you'd expect and as it should...like pear flavored soda. Having pear juice probably has something to do with it rather than crazy industrial flavorings. Anyway, go to this place... multiple times. Support family run small business that excels at what they do. In an area with no shortage of kabobs & middle eastern food (seriously, within a block radius, there's several), this is definitely 1 of the stand outs. I only wish there was one deep in the westside or Inglewood/Culver City area...
Read moreI’ve been wanting to try Mini-Kabob for a long time! I was so excited to finally splurge and give them a go. I live in Glendale and eat a lot of different Armenian food- from the more a Russian, to the more Persian, to the more Lebanese. Anyway, my experience was pretty strange. I ordered from Grubhub and my food came fast with generous portions. Everything looked and smelled fresh. Hot items were hot, cold items were cold. I can tell they use good ingredients. The tabuleh salad looked beautiful, as did the hummus and everything. The meat was very tender and juicy, the perfect texture for kabob. And the lavash was warm and soft and some of the best I’ve ever had. So what is my complaint you might ask? SALT. They used way too much salt in the tabuleh and the hummus, so much that it over powered the flavor of everything, even the meat. I’m still recovering as I write this. For the record I love salt. Kalamata olives, feta and Bulgarian cheese, capers, pickles, etc…as you can see I am not sensitive or adverse to salt. They just used way too much and I don’t understand why anyone would ever need that much salt in anything ever. Maybe this was a one off. Perhaps I’ll try them again in the future and discover that this was just a salty day for some reason. But I am still sad about the money I spent today and the experience I received in exchange for it.
I’m updating this review from 2 to 4 stars because the owner reached out to me and provided really great customer service to resolve the issue. He validated my experience and made it right. It’s not easy to find customer service like this anymore. I truly respect him and appreciate his business ethic. I feel very certain that this was a random experience that is not up to their usual standards. Hey, it happens, and you know what? He made it right by reaching out to me. I will update this review again after I try them again, and I will definitely be trying them again based on their very...
Read moreI kid you not, best kabobs I've ever had. Ive been wanting to come here for so long. I don't know why I waited. Me and a couple coworkers came here on a Monday after work, prime dinner time, and got one of the 2 tables available. They can only seat 2 or 3 people each. Limited dining space for sure. I feel like most orders are take out, because the place is busy regardless. Now to the food. The bread, garlic sauce, hummus, and yogurt are all delicious. These were brought out while we waited for our spread, which is cooked to order, literally 10 feet away from us on a charcoal grill. We ordered every meat. Lamb chop, lule kabob, steak, chicken. And good Lord they're all delicious. It took abouy 15-20 minutes for the meats to come out. They're served on a bed of rice, and onions, grilled tomato and jalepeno, all seasoned perfectly. At no time did I wish anything had more flavor. It was maximum flavor. And it was perfect as it was. The lamb chops are high quality butcher store chops. Plenty of meat, as tender as Kobe beef. The steak kabobs were full of flavor, and so smokey. The lule must have been marinated in some special herbs and hit with butter because it was so juicy. The star of the show has to be the chicken. The chicken is unlike any chicken I've ever had. Everyone that put it in their mouth had the O face. It was WOW for sure. So smokey. So flavorful. So juicy and tender. That's like A5 chicken. Lol. I can't say anything else about this place. It is literally the best hole in the wall I've ever been to. The food stands up to ANY kabob place in Glendale, and anywhere else for that matter. It actually puts the big restaurants (raffis, carousel,...
