Don't eat at Lunpys BBQ, yesterday Sunday July 21, 2019, I decided to go to this restaurant with my friend. I ordered hot wings with fries and a pulled chicken sandwich, well the young lady at the counter who happen to be white rang me up for someone else's order and gave me too much money back, so then she noticed that and stated that she gave me too much money so I returned to the counter with my wallet where I had $6.00 in my wallet and the young lady tried to say $ I was suppose to give her that money in addition to the $20.00 I had already given her for my order. I asked her how much was my order and she stated $13.85, from $20.00 equals $6.15 which is exactly what I stated to the young lady, I had her ring my order back up so finally everything was settled or do I thought ot was, now all the time this was going on there was another young lady at the counter watching the enter incident snd how the money was being handled. Durimg this time when I thought things were settled the young lady goes to the back and duscusses what happened at the counter then comes back and accuses me of taking the $20.00 dollars by asking did I give her the $20.00, I said yes and asked why wouldn't I have and how could I get $6.15 back in change if I didn't. At this time I'm getting upset and ask for my money back, so the young girl starts saying it was a simple mistake and I say and accusatiin is not a dinple mistake and that of they were in my shoes and had an accusation made against them then they would feel the same way snd I told , the young lady she couldn't count, then the manager gets onvolved and stayes the following "if she wants her money back well guve her the money back, all while the young lady says it's a simple mistake, so the owner of the BBQ restaurant who is white sends one of his black uoung men workers from the back to come to the front to say something because the uoung lady feeks got hurt due to me saying she couldn't count. The black guy from the back tried to make it a race issue wgen it wasn't it was an issue of right and wrong , the white young lady making an accusation and trying to rake more money from me than the order cost. Then I went outside due to me being upset because I know me, so my friends waired for their food and once received told the young lady she was wrong and that she accused me of stealing $20.00I gave her, and that she couldn't count. Well after that the young black man comes out side to smoke but says I raised my voice at the young , although I didn't I simply was upset by the accusation in was stated and tge tone of my voice changed but no yelking , this let me know as a black woman when I defend myself in a calm matter, that people are going yo think it's yelling when it's not or if I show I'm upset. Well the guy argued with my friends and made it a race issue words were said...
Read moreI love good barbecue, but it can be hard to find it in the Philadelphia area. This isn't the south. Here cheesesteak and pizza places are on every corner, not BBQ joints. Lumpy's BBQ can be literally hard to find. It's easy to accidentally drive right past because it sits in a nondescript shopping center and isn't all that visible from the road. I've passed it a thousand times and never noticed it. I only found it because I was looking up some other local restaurants on Yelp.
However, I can happily report that Lumpy's has the best barbecue that I've ever had north of the Mason-Dixon Line. It's a simply decorated place and operates much like most barbecue restaurants. You go the counter to order and you get your own drinks. Your food is brought to your table when it's ready. When we first walked in and saw we were the only diners in the place, we were concerned, but they clearly do a booming take-out business. I was also really excited to find out that they deliver.
We ordered pork ribs, pulled pork and burnt ends. They were all delicious and served with 2 sauces (hot or mild). The burnt ends were especially delicious. The sides we chose were good, although the mac and cheese was not as good as I would have hoped for.
In doing some research on my phone on the way home, I read that the owner competed on the BBQ Pitmasters TV show, so when we got home, I immediately bought that episode on iTunes. It made me want to go back for more right away or, better yet, get...
Read more2 BBQ sandwiches, a very small amount of French fries, 3-4 ounces of pork and beans, 8 ounces of chili, a 16 ounce coke and a 16 ounce ginger ale cost $30.00, but that is not even what this complaint is about. The two ladies working the counter were rude. Not this time, or even this time AND the last time, but all 6 times I have gone there the blonde lady (especially) and the dark haired lady were both rude. I asked the blonde haired lady for condiments and she said she would not give me any and that they were in the bag. That’s exactly what she said the last time. They weren’t in the bag then either. I will not ever be back in there again. Ever! The BBQ pork was kind of okay, but that meal should not have cost $30, the people should not have been rude, and when I went in to complain, they should not have gotten an attitude. They suck. And the food was cold. When I went in to get the ketchup they were (get this) pissed at me. I did not have the choice of dining in. In hindsight, I am glad I did not. I was helping a friend who was struggling with limited employment and, although having enough money to pay the bill was not an issue for me, I feel almost certain that this restaurant is not for people who want average food, served hot, and at a reasonable price by people who will at least be tolerant of their customers if not actually happy...
