Destinos is the best sub shop I've been to in MA, which puts it high in the running for best sub shop in the US and the world. They have been doing it since '59, so clearly they have something good going. They also only make subs. No pizza, no calzones, no BS, just subs!
I worked at a sub shop and know what it takes to make good subs, and it's all here at Destinos. I eat there about 3+ times a month. I will lay out my reasons below:
1- Fresh bread and many homemade ingredients. Fresh bread makes a sub, and they use delicious Piantedosi bread (at my shop it was delivered daily, I would assume they do the same).
They also have home made meatballs that are so tender you could take your dentures out to eat them. I mean what other sub shop home makes their meatballs??
The steak is always tasty and the cold cuts are also great. As well, the (shoestring) fries are always FRESH and delicious.
2- Correct layering of ingredients. I mean it's just so important to have everything layered all nice. As well, there's never too much or too little of anything- veggies, sauce, etc. Even with the pickles, it's like they know to put a couple of extras on because some are gonna fall out while you're eating.
3- Consistency & customer service. I have not had a bad sub from there ever. They always look the same, taste the same, are out quickly and always exactly how I ordered it.
As well, they are always very nice there. Sometimes being nice to customers is not emphasized, especially in spots that have been in business and will be continue to be in business for the foreseeable future, but it clearly is there and it makes a difference! It is clear that they want you to have a delicious sub.
My ONLY complaint is that they use chunks of tomato instead of slices, and the only mistake you can make in ordering is...
Read moreRandomly ended up eating lunch here with my wife before our whale watching cruise. I literally pulled into the parking lot to get off the street so we could find a place to eat. After looking at reviews and their menu online, we decided this was a good place. The staff was so nice, and the options all sounded good. I ordered the sausage and sweet peppers, and my wife ordered the meatball sub. Since we dined in, we got a free cup of their soup of the day, and a trip to their salad bar. The soup that day was a chicken chili and it was excellent! We liked that more than either of us liked our sandwiches! We even considered coming back for dinner! The salad bar was a tiny cold well with rotini pasta salad, coleslaw, macaroni salad and potato salad. Not a salad bar in a traditional sense, but very nice treat just for dining in. My wife really enjoyed her meatball sub, and she had them add some fresh toppings from their sandwich topping options. My sandwich was good - plenty of sausage and peppers - but that was it. No onions, no sauce of any kind. I think I was also allowed to ask for free sandwich toppings, but I missed my chance. Overall we paid $24 for two nice sized sandwiches, two bowls of chicken chili, two trips to the salad bar, a bottle of coke. Outstanding value, and we were both full when we left. Great...
Read morePretty piss poor service. Normally great staff. Called to order, was hung up on twice. The second time they took my order and with no other words spoken, slammed the phone down. When I went into the store the employee wouldn't own up to it. When they finally admitted who it was they refused to apologize and tried to blame it on their phones. Doesn't even make sense. Phone just randomly hung up immediately following my order completion and then you fill the order? Yeah okay... I'll be following up directly with the store manager and probably never returning. Just own your mistake and apologize kid. All it would have taken.
Already editing my review after reading others. It's clear they have a history of poor service in these reviews and with no ownership response they don't seem to care. Guaranteed this place does less business with the new owners, lower quality food products across the board,...
