To begin with, let me say that I hope that this place can continue to make a go of it. We found the food to be no more than OK. I tried to order a grilled cheese sandwich, (or their take on it), and was told that they were out. Not sure how you can run out of cheese and bread prior to an early Saturday lunch, but I rolled with it and ordered the pulled pork instead.
The pork itself wasn't horrible. I've been across this country eating Barbeque, (including most of the North Carolina Barbecue Trail and count Dionsaur BBQ in NY and Rollin' Smoke in Vegas as two of my favorites), and I've had good, OK, and fabulous. Let me tell you in my life, and as a former line cook, I've never had anything so remotely disgusting as the stuff they put on top of their pulled pork. I was told it was a fennel salad and it was my mistake not to have read the menu a little closer to know that it was listed as an ingredient for the finished product. I can't begin to understand what they are trying to do, or why they wouldn't just put coleslaw, (the regular, universally known and accepted companion to pulled pork), but it was horrible. It lacked any color other than a brownish, off white tint that resembled spoiled mayonnaise based coleslaw. My comment to the server was "Why ruin a tried and true good thing with this stuff?" He was gracious, but that comment was made only after all of our food was gone when he finally came back to check on us even though we were sitting at the bar.
She had a cob salad which was nicely presented, and tasted good, but seemed a bit shy on the portion side. We ended up ordering the french fries for a little extra and those were really good. It seemed kind of weird that they were doing que and didn't offer a burger or sausage since it's a brew pub. Food prices seemed a little high all things considered, but not completely out of line.
We thought the beer was pretty good. I tend to like lagers and heavier beers and thought that there were a few too many "hopped" up beers, but we enjoyed a flight as well as pints of Bexbach and Old Soul that we thought were just plain good drinkin' beers. We weren't impressed with the Electric Peach, (too tart), or the Millrace Hefe, (just too out there with the bananas and cloves-we expected beer not mulled cider flavors).
The bar itself seemed a little cold, hard and small, not completely inviting from the standpoint of design, but the stools fit nicely and we were able to belly up. The whole building was certainly unique and the atmosphere jovial and friendly. It's a bit eclectic and somewhat Bohemian, with a little too much joking around going on by the servers and bartenders in my opinion, but if they focus on putting out good solid, non-freaky beer, get rid of the fennel salad on the que, and shorten the distance to the front door from the parking lot they might just make it. But for a town that's never really had something like this, I can see where most people will eat-and...
Read moreId heard great things about this place and am happy to report that they are all true!
It is somewhat of an open seating type of place. So there is some outdoor seating, indoor seating that has like open areas so it’s half inside half out, and then fully inside seating. There are no servers just runners and bartenders. You order at the bar, get a number, take it to your table. Menus can be found at the reception or at either of the bars.
They have a limited menu because it’s seasonal. We ordered the heirloom Bruschetta which comes with a full ball of burrata! I highly recommend it even though I expect it will be off the menu soon. It’s also served with a hearty bread they make in house which is fantastic.
For my main I ordered the skirt steak and avocado salad it was excellent! I highly recommend it if you see it on the menu. My other dining partners ordered the Cobb salad which comes with smoked chicken and deliciously cooked bacon, also recommend. As well as the brisket sandwich which was also very good, the meat was cooked perfectly though you may want to ask for extra barbecue sauce.
The water is pretty cool. You need to go up close to the second bar and there is a spigot or a tap that you released the water from into metal cups. If you want ice, you have to ask the bartender.
They don’t currently have cider right now, but it says that it’s fermenting so they should have it soon. Overall, a 10 out of 10 I absolutely recommend and it would be perfect to go on a beautiful day when you’re not busy to really enjoy the outdoor...
Read moreTo begin, I must state my beer preference. I usually order from medium to dark ambers or stouts and porters. I prefer my beer to be malty, to only slightly hoppy. IPAs are not my first choice when ordering beer, and I do not enjoy heavily hopped beers. I primarily visited Goshen Brewing Company to try the beer. The food was secondary. I ordered a sampler of the beers, and a pork sandwich. My initial impression of the beer was that it seemed much lighter consistency compared to other beers (including IPAs) from other brewing places I have visited. The taste was not bad, but neither was it impressive. Truth be told, I can get better beer from a good beer purchased at a party store. They also did not have a good variety of beer styles. Color varied from a medium amber to a light amber color. Missing were the porters or stouts. About half of the beers were IPAs and the non IPA were almost too light in flavor. That said, the food was very good. The portions were just right. The restaurant was pleasant inside. The food prices are comparable to other similar restaurants. The beer price was also comparable or slightly lower than similar restaurants. Would I go back? Probably, if I were going with friends. But, if I were looking to enjoy a really good beer, this would not be high on my list of...
