Balz Sports Bar — Restaurant in Grand Island

Went in to watch Nebraska baseball and have a drink. Was told my Texas State ID was not valid. I stated, "That has to be incorrect," and was presented with a piece of laminated paper that showed it. I accepted that and ordered a Mountain Dew and was told the menu specials. Still finding it odd, I looked it up. As it turned out, the law they were referencing was amended by AM228 in 2013. The amendment allowed current out-of-state IDs as identification for alcohol. I presented this to the owner, who told me he didn't care and wasn't going to argue about it or even look because he's going by what he has from the Nebraska Liquor Commission. I asked him if he would like me to call them so he could talk. He said no, took my drink, dumped it in the trash and told me to leave. I said that didn't have to happen, that I was just trying to show him what he has on file was updated three years ago. He asked me why I didn't have a Nebraska ID, "You've been here long enough." That right there showed me they were intentionally doing this. I had been to this place and had drinks before. My response: It's none of your business, but I have multiple exemptions. He then said he was calling the police and I would know another law: trespassing. I said, "Oh I'm leaving. I'm not trying to be a dick."

Well this was my first time here tonight after many repeated trips to Bdubs. I gotta say service was aimed towards the regulars which is to be expected I suppose. Rashel my bartender looked lost from the get go at 17:45 when I asked her for the specials? She had no clue? She looked completely overwhelmed behind the bar. She did put on the Yankees game though. That was appreciated. You can't miss me. I'm in the Aaron Judge jersey. She left my food sitting for 10 min under the heat lamp at 18:30? The kitchen staff does call out the order when it's ready? She seemed unemotional and uninterested in being there the entire evening. A good bartender must show some emotion and genuine interest to be successful. Not sure if she is the usual bartender or not? So my name it Charles Patrick Alvarez. Tiffany, Taylor, and Annabelle all know me from BWW. They also smile and do their jobs which is why they've been there so long. They know me very well. They know how polite I am, and they also treat every customer the same. Your looks only get you so far. I'm not gonna bash this place with a one star review because I know it's way better. When I wanted to tab out she was nowhere to be found and when I finally did, she was unemotional and non chalant. At least say thank you for coming in tonight. We have been here numerous times and tonight we had the worse service we have ever had, we had to go get our own drinks twice from the bartender/bar for our table of 3 people. They weren’t busy like they usually were on most nights (so no that wasn’t the reason) we had servers named megan and Mariah, Megan was so worried about what her friends in front of us were doing and what their plans were for the night that she walked by several times without stopping. And our main server Mariah came to our table to take our food order and bring our food out before we went and grabbed our drinks that had been sitting at the bar the whole time, so Mariah came to our table a total of 2 times the whole night. We decided just to go up again to bar for another round and also to grab our ticket and check out. We tipped the bartender instead, after that she walked by several times and again never stopped to check on us or apologized for “being busy” or whatever she wanted to say. Might just hit up chicken coop like usual! Good food and great services...
