I'm bewildered over the concept of a generically "Asian Restaurant" where Chinese and Japanese foods are thrown into an incongruous mix. That being said, I have seen many diners enjoying Fuji's fried rice. I like fried rice, and once I got over my mental block about eating this Chinese-inspired dish in a restaurant named Fuji and actually tried it, I found Fuji's version to be pretty disgusting. Something about the flavor is just off-putting, like too much soy sauce and some other flavor that I just can't recognize, and not much else. For those who may like Fuji's fried rice, have at it! For those looking for my opinion on it: Hard pass.
About a month ago, ordered a sashimi sampler. Was served a sushi sampler. When I politely mentioned that the order was incorrect, the server said: "I can take the rice off, if you want." I replied: "Yes, please. But sashimi isn't supposed to have sushi rice to begin with". The server sighed loudly, and with a somewhat menacing look, he said "alright", and grabbed the plate. When he returned, he set the corrected order down, and channeling Bon Qui Qui, said: "Anything else?". Again with the menacing look, this time making me feel really uncomfortable.
Last month, ordered a la carte sashimi with albacore and scallops among the items. After placing the order, the very polite and friendly server returned and told me the cook could only serve the scallops as sushi. I replied: "That's odd, but okay, no problem." When the meal arrived, all four scallops had serious, sizeable grit, either shell or sand, and I couldn't eat them, lest I chip a tooth or three. In addition, the albacore had been swapped out for "super white tuna" (escolar). Since both albacore and super white were on the menu, I had thought it was just a simple mix-up. I politely, with a bit of tongue-in-cheek, mentioned to the server: "This isn't albacore". She replied that she wrote "white tuna" on the order and then went to get the manager. The manager arrived with "Is there a problem?", to which I repeated that the fish on the plate was not albacore, but super white. She replied: "That's white tuna". I told her that I ordered albacore, and that what was on the plate wasn't what I ordered. She replied: "That's white tuna, that's what we have" in somewhat of a huff. I said: "I get it, but I ordered albacore, and this is not it". She finally replied: "Okay, I'll look into it", disappeared and never came back. Interestingly... other reviewers before me have commented on the same albacore/escolar mix-up, and about having received similar reactions from staff.
I can see how the fish mix-up occurred... The menu line for albacore is printed with "White Tuna (albacore)", and the next line is printed with "Super White Tuna". Similar wording, yes, but for those in the know about sushi/sashimi, these are two very different types of fish.
The observations I've shared might seem like nitpicking, but for a restaurant that serves Japan's most renowned cuisine, these details are more than mere nuance. I could have overlooked these gaffs, were it not for the brusque (and in one case, vaguely threatening) reception by the staff members. In both cases, I was made to feel as if I had made the mistakes by simply pointing out the restaurant's errors.
I'll be lenient for a bit because I suspect the post-Covid worker shortage may be the true culprit behind these disappointments, but even that can't reinforce my patience with this place forever. I place the onus on the restaurant's owners to educate the staff on its offerings, especially key menu items, and then expect them to uphold a certain level of service. Wasabi Bistro, down the street, may be more expensive, but I have always received exactly what I ordered,...

Definitely disappointed. Tonight we decided to celebrate Aprils birthday at our favorite restaurant Fugi in Grand Island Ne. We arrived at 845 upon arrival we were told it would be a 15 min wait no problem we went to bar and waited. Upon ordering our second drink the fantastic bartender made the comment so you guys are drinking and not eating at this time it was 9:30. I looked around and saw we were solo and said we are waiting to be seated. She proceeded to talk to the manager a female named Jo who looked confused but played it off and promptly seated us. Our waiter came over and grabbed the drink order for me and left before getting Aprils upon his return I ordered hers.Extremely weird he asked if we were ready to order which we did. Before our drinks arrived the chef was there and began to cook I then said it was her bday he sang happy bday quickly cooked our food and left all the while the tables around us were getting the whole Hibachi experience. We quietly ate and wondered why such a non traditional experience at a place we have had many great memories and celebrations. We never received soup and salad and got our appetizers after are entree. We finished our meal and I decided to say something. I asked to speak with a manager very discreetly to whom I got Jo who sat us. After voiceing my concerns to a uninterested individual I asked for my check which was 79 and change penciled in my tip we had spent 26 at the bar and were ready to leave when she brought me a gift card over dropped on the table and said there is 15.00 dollars on it this made me a little mad I was not asking for a free meal just the token hey sorry we are busy you got lost in the shuffle we will do better next time. I gave the card back and said that I didn't want that to a oblivious manager of a great staffed place. I understand the understaffed issues going around this is not the case here. I love Fugi and we have spent almost every Birthday or special occasion celebrating there we have witnessed countless managers and staff and always walked away feeling great tonight we felt rushed unwelcomed and not a priority. I give this...
Read moreAny restaurant with teppan grills should know they are called a teppan grills. Hibachi is an open grill with flame, like a barbecue. What Fuji Restaurant has is a flat, open griddle: teppan. In my opinion, Fuji is overpriced and overrated. The food is fine, consistent. The Teppanyaki is exactly the same every time, with each chef following the same script, doing exactly the same moves. Other teppanyaki places allow/encourage their chefs to be creative, which makes for a more fun and varied experience. I've found the sushi to be sub-par, with small portions. If you order sushi anywhere but the bar, you have to ask for shoyu and a dipping cup (if you can get a waiter's attention). I have also found that while the service isn't bad, the servers seem most concerned with moving people out as soon as possible. On our most recent visit, we were presented with the check when I was not even halfway through my meal. They seem to want to crank people in and out as quickly as possible. If I am paying $50 for two people, I want to be able to enjoy my meal, not be hovered over and pushed out the door. Dessert wasn't even offered. Fuji can be fun if you have folks from out of town, but it is far too expensive for the mediocre...
