Alright, so I didn't want my first review of this place to be so negative. I should have definitely written a positive review previous to this experience because typically my experience here is so good. It's a regular dining spot for my wife and I so we're often excited when it returns in our rotation.
That being said, I cannot abide by my recent experience. First and foremost, my server kept disappearing and acted like we were her least important table. It's unfortunate because we take pride in our generous tips and for the first time in a long time, we were reduced to providing only 10% for the poor service provided.
The next main issue is that I ordered a jalapeno burger which is my absolute favorite item on the menu. I always order the burger with a temperature of medium, this always results in a nice pink center with the edges being cooked through. The resulting burger is juicy and delicious.
Unfortunately, when my burger came this time, it was absolutely cooked rare. The burger was bright pink on the edge of the burger, it appeared to have been just seared externally and then plated. My server took notice, apologized, and put in for a replacement burger. The manager came over shortly and apologized and comped the burger for us.
At this point I expected the issue to be resolved and I didn't raise a fuss, I was satisfied. Unfortunately, the replacement burger that came out was cooked so thoroughly that it was cooked well done and so incredibly dry. It was as if the cook took great offense to my undercooked burger and intentionally burned the hell out of my replacement.
I was so angry and realized I wouldn't be leaving there satisfied that I just dealt with it. My wife had already finished her meal and I wasn't going to wait for a replacement again. I ate the burger, and I went on my way.
Honestly, I don't know how I can order a medium burger and receive one that is very undercooked and then one that was very overcooked. I still am frustrated because I really like Rockslide and do plan to be back. I just hope the cooks are in a better mood next time or something because that's not how my experience usually is at all.
Thank you to the manager that did his best to provide for us but unfortunately the experience didn't recover after the second...

Read moreI had the Brewhouse Burger and the Mexican Lager, yesterday. The short response is that it was a complete letdown.
Their in-house (spent-grain) bun, the best thing they had going, is gone. The "medium" burger I ordered, was cooked well beyond "well-done" - it was dry to the point of being hard to choke down. Which is a shame because the beef was good, the patty was nicely sized and the sear would have been really tasty paired with a juicy interior. I don't think the beef was too/overly lean; it seems to be a prep, seasoning and/or kitchen timing issue (no they weren't busy). The other best thing going was their sweet potato wedges; now replaced with a textureless (though still tasty) waffle version.
Generally I will only order off the rotational/seasonal beer list, but I hadn't tried one of their regulars before. The lager was simply flat and lifeless. This is similarly a shame, because the impressive-enough malt and hop profile would have come across as crisp, satisfying and delicious with carbonation (...the carbonation level that the entire brewing world has agreed upon for the style).
The true disappointment is that there's so much potential in this space, in this brewpub, but the owners appear hell-bent on shooting themselves in the foot. A decade or so back it seemed that they were finally ready to listen to their talented staff, after reigning them in for as long as I can remember. This is apparently not in the works any longer. To be fair; the place looks great, the menu has been intelligently slimmed down and I still want to like the pub. Honestly, despite the disappointment, I still like Rockslide more than some of our new and trendier brewpubs. The service has always been good... although yesterday I never could get anyone's attention for a...
