Don’t miss this gem of a museum!! Driving by we thought these were artificial/ replicas of old western buildings, but no!! These are real buildings moved to this site not to mention the unbelievable collection of items from the eras of these buildings that bring them to life. Mr. Fike’s collection of memorabilia is unmatched. You can go inside a once real saloon in the indoor museum and more buildings like an 1840s dentist office. Outside there are 28 buildings including a sheriffs office/ jail, carriage repair shop, and the place where Jack Dempsey used to train. An absolute MUST visit if you’re in the Montrose area if you want to feel the Wild West experience and for...

I'd have given it more stars but it is a bit small and a bunch of Colorado's history has been omitted I think due to that. BUT, they have some great history of the Utes and NA tribes of the area in general. There is an awesome collection of weaving bowls and pottery including some really rare pots/cauldrons. I was hoping for more mining stuff but a bunch on the Spanish exploration was included. My favorite was a collection of early metallic cartridge guns including colt army and an early Henry repeater. It is only $7 for an adult and if you like history you will find something there to make it...

Great experience with family. We got to see the history of Grand Junction and the western slope while having fun with all the interactive features the museum has to offer. We were able to board an old timey wagon, a small biplane for the kids, and an old phone booth with audio samples depicting previous eras. To finish the museum, they have a tower you can ascend and see the whole town and the surrounding mountains. Definitely recommend getting the two museum deal to also see the dinosaur museum in Fruita. It is a nice museum as well and worth...

Was not sure what to expect. The museum was advertised as one of the top sites to visit in Grand Junction. My traveling partner and I walked to the museum and I was glad we did! For two adults, there were plenty of interactive sets and genuine artifacts from the time periods described. I was fascinated by the local history. I would also highly recommend visiting the tower. The view from the tower definitely provides perspective. As it seems like one of the only few structures that allow you to view the city from that elevation, that isn't on top of a Mesa.
