Getting two stars only because the fries are amazing. Came here two nights in a row while at a conference. First night: came alone around 8 pm. Host was confused on where to seat me. Then took a bit for server to come. Ordered the chippers and fish. The fish was hard in certain places and seasoning was all over the place (super salty is some places, bland in others, super peppery at bottom but not elsewhere). The chippers are fantastic! Unfortunately that was the only good part. Service was not good; when server came out with food, she went to four other tables as she did not know where to deliver. My drink (Call me old fashioned) was 60% ice and 10% alcohol. It took a long time to get servers attention for the check as it seemed like she was in the back for a while and the at other end of restaurant. My coworkers wanted to try so I was willing to give another chance. We decided on drinks and then decided we would eat dinner also. We had to grab our own menus, when server came back we told him to put in our food order as we still didn’t have our drinks. There were tables seated after us that received their food prior to our table. One of the four people in our party didn’t receive her food at the same time and took an extra 10 minutes. We asked to speak with the manager as it took to long to get our food. Manager said best he could do was take 10% off our bill; we agreed so we could speed up the process of leaving. It seemed as though the server and manager were then avoiding us as we really wanted to pay and leave. We were there for two hours because of how slow the food and service. If you decide to come here, only get the chippers (fries) and order them ahead to go.

We were wandering downtown Grand Junction looking for somewhere to eat. We popped into one place and the hostess was rude and they didn't have a kids menu so we kept going. Next street down was the Goat and Clover Tavern. The hostess came out while we were perusing the menu, greeting the children first with a big smile and asking how they were. She asked if we wanted to sit outside which we did and when the waitress came out with our waters, she brought along a clean water bowl freshly filled for my little dog. Everything on the menu looked fresh and delicious, it took a few minutes to decide what we wanted. It was challenging to try and choose just one item so we ended up sharing a few. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious, a huge hit with the kids! The biscuits and gravy was served with some kind of seasoned potatoes and eggs. If you're local, you know all about Randy's biscuits and gravy and this was the same category of deliciousness! Our salads had just the right amount of greens, protein, and veggies. The portions were large enough to where we all had seconds later on that evening. Inside looked like a fun place to be to watch a football game or meet friends for a drink after work. Everything from the bar to the bathrooms, was spotlessly clean, well organized and the staff were friendly and polite. It has been a while since we experienced that kind of care and excellence in a restaurant. This staff genuinely appreciated their place of employment and cared about their customers. Looking forward to the next time we head downtown for lunch, as we will head straight to The Goat and Clover tavern!

Edited for new visit on bottom (Increased Rating)! Service was not good. Server was rushed and dropped/spilled things in the table and my wife. It was not busy and they're was no reason to rush. My food was very good (picture). My daughter loves the fish and chips (that should be on the kid menu!!). My wife and I didn't really like the Sheppard's Pie which is a favorite of ours. We will likely try again and hope for better service. 9-28-2019: We decided to stop by on a Friday evening. As we were walking down the road seeing all the lines of people waiting at other restaurants we were thinking it may have been a bad choice. We were seated with less than a 5min wait, and I watched others arrive and be seated within a few minutes as well. It was BUSY! Our waitress (Jessica M) was fantastic! Super attentive, never had an empty cup (I drink a ton of soda, so that's a big one for me). Food arrived in decent time, it was nice and hot and tasted great! I still think a kid portion of the Fish and Chips should be on the kid menu! This experience was so much better than last time!

After a full day of sightseeing, we were excited to relax and eat at The Goat and Clover Tavern. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be very disappointing.

We started with the Irish Egg Rolls, which sounded great on the menu. At first bite they were warm, but then the second bite gave me a painful surprise—the filling was scalding hot and actually burned the roof of my mouth. It left me in so much pain that eating anything else became nearly impossible. Even the Caesar salad and fries were unbearable because the salt and dressing stung the burn. My husband ended up eating most of my meal, and I was left unable to really enjoy anything.

When I mentioned what happened to our server, her only response was, “I hate it when that happens.” There was no apology, no offer of assistance, no fresh water until I specifically asked, and no check-in afterward to see how we were doing. A little empathy would have gone a long way—something as simple as an apology, a refill without me asking, or even considering comping the appetizer. Instead, we felt completely dismissed.

For anyone considering the Irish Egg Rolls, be very cautious—the outside may feel warm, but the inside can be dangerously hot. Hours later, I’m still uncomfortable and hoping ibuprofen helps. UPDATE: It has now been over a week since this burn occurred and I am still limited on what food I can eat because the burns were so severe inside my mouth and throat! It STILL hurts to swallow anything that is not completely soft. This was not just a simple burn, there were layers of skin that came off and I have red burns in my mouth! Please be careful if you order these rolls...as I mentioned they were not 'hot' to the touch and the first bite was only 'warm' :(

To management: I strongly suggest training staff to respond with more care and concern when a guest has a problem. A small gesture of empathy can make all the difference, and unfortunately, that was missing here.

We will not be returning, and I hope others have a better experience...

The Goat and Clover Tavern is a hidden gem among the bustling restaurant scene, offering a delightful culinary experience that combines rustic charm with exceptional flavors. As a passionate food lover, I recently had the pleasure of dining at this cozy establishment and was completely captivated by their shepherd's pie.

The moment the piping hot shepherd's pie arrived at my table, I knew I was in for a treat. The golden-brown crust was perfectly crisp, giving way to a hearty filling of tender lamb, vegetables, and rich gravy. The flavors were impeccably balanced, with the earthiness of the lamb complemented by the sweetness of the vegetables and the savory depth of the gravy. Every bite was a harmonious symphony of taste that left me craving for more.

The presentation of the dish was equally impressive. The shepherd's pie was elegantly served in a cast-iron skillet, exuding a rustic charm that added to the overall experience. The portion size was generous, ensuring that every bite was satisfying without being overwhelming.

Beyond the shepherd's pie, The Goat and Clover Tavern offers a diverse menu with a wide range of delectable options. From their succulent steaks to their mouthwatering seafood dishes, every item on the menu showcases the kitchen's commitment to quality and excellence.

The ambiance of the tavern is warm and inviting, with dimmed lighting, comfortable seating, and friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer recommendations. The service was prompt and attentive, further enhancing the dining experience.

Overall, The Goat and Clover Tavern is a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. Whether you're a fan of traditional comfort food or simply appreciate well-executed dishes, their shepherd's pie is a standout that will leave you craving for more. I can't wait to return and explore more of their...
