After a full day of sightseeing, we were excited to relax and eat at The Goat and Clover Tavern. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be very disappointing.
We started with the Irish Egg Rolls, which sounded great on the menu. At first bite they were warm, but then the second bite gave me a painful surprise—the filling was scalding hot and actually burned the roof of my mouth. It left me in so much pain that eating anything else became nearly impossible. Even the Caesar salad and fries were unbearable because the salt and dressing stung the burn. My husband ended up eating most of my meal, and I was left unable to really enjoy anything.
When I mentioned what happened to our server, her only response was, “I hate it when that happens.” There was no apology, no offer of assistance, no fresh water until I specifically asked, and no check-in afterward to see how we were doing. A little empathy would have gone a long way—something as simple as an apology, a refill without me asking, or even considering comping the appetizer. Instead, we felt completely dismissed.
For anyone considering the Irish Egg Rolls, be very cautious—the outside may feel warm, but the inside can be dangerously hot. Hours later, I’m still uncomfortable and hoping ibuprofen helps. UPDATE: It has now been over a week since this burn occurred and I am still limited on what food I can eat because the burns were so severe inside my mouth and throat! It STILL hurts to swallow anything that is not completely soft. This was not just a simple burn, there were layers of skin that came off and I have red burns in my mouth! Please be careful if you order these rolls...as I mentioned they were not 'hot' to the touch and the first bite was only 'warm' :(
To management: I strongly suggest training staff to respond with more care and concern when a guest has a problem. A small gesture of empathy can make all the difference, and unfortunately, that was missing here.
We will not be returning, and I hope others have a better experience...
Read moreThe Goat and Clover Tavern is a hidden gem among the bustling restaurant scene, offering a delightful culinary experience that combines rustic charm with exceptional flavors. As a passionate food lover, I recently had the pleasure of dining at this cozy establishment and was completely captivated by their shepherd's pie.
The moment the piping hot shepherd's pie arrived at my table, I knew I was in for a treat. The golden-brown crust was perfectly crisp, giving way to a hearty filling of tender lamb, vegetables, and rich gravy. The flavors were impeccably balanced, with the earthiness of the lamb complemented by the sweetness of the vegetables and the savory depth of the gravy. Every bite was a harmonious symphony of taste that left me craving for more.
The presentation of the dish was equally impressive. The shepherd's pie was elegantly served in a cast-iron skillet, exuding a rustic charm that added to the overall experience. The portion size was generous, ensuring that every bite was satisfying without being overwhelming.
Beyond the shepherd's pie, The Goat and Clover Tavern offers a diverse menu with a wide range of delectable options. From their succulent steaks to their mouthwatering seafood dishes, every item on the menu showcases the kitchen's commitment to quality and excellence.
The ambiance of the tavern is warm and inviting, with dimmed lighting, comfortable seating, and friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer recommendations. The service was prompt and attentive, further enhancing the dining experience.
Overall, The Goat and Clover Tavern is a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. Whether you're a fan of traditional comfort food or simply appreciate well-executed dishes, their shepherd's pie is a standout that will leave you craving for more. I can't wait to return and explore more of their...
Read moreGetting two stars only because the fries are amazing. Came here two nights in a row while at a conference. First night: came alone around 8 pm. Host was confused on where to seat me. Then took a bit for server to come. Ordered the chippers and fish. The fish was hard in certain places and seasoning was all over the place (super salty is some places, bland in others, super peppery at bottom but not elsewhere). The chippers are fantastic! Unfortunately that was the only good part. Service was not good; when server came out with food, she went to four other tables as she did not know where to deliver. My drink (Call me old fashioned) was 60% ice and 10% alcohol. It took a long time to get servers attention for the check as it seemed like she was in the back for a while and the at other end of restaurant. My coworkers wanted to try so I was willing to give another chance. We decided on drinks and then decided we would eat dinner also. We had to grab our own menus, when server came back we told him to put in our food order as we still didn’t have our drinks. There were tables seated after us that received their food prior to our table. One of the four people in our party didn’t receive her food at the same time and took an extra 10 minutes. We asked to speak with the manager as it took to long to get our food. Manager said best he could do was take 10% off our bill; we agreed so we could speed up the process of leaving. It seemed as though the server and manager were then avoiding us as we really wanted to pay and leave. We were there for two hours because of how slow the food and service. If you decide to come here, only get the chippers (fries) and order them...
